How is the Riviera Marriott Hotel Cap d'Ail

Did a search and found nothing. Found a rate of $115.00 Euros per night at this hotel for a stay in late December. Thought the rates is pretty darn good. How is this hotel in terms of location and luxury?

My family and I stayed there in July 2002 for 3 nights (2 rooms). We loved it. The location is very close to Monaco (like 500 feet), and the hotel has a free shuttle bus to the heart of Monaco. The hotel itself is quite nice. They have a large parking garage that costs 15 Euro per day. Getting there by car is tricky, but after you do it a couple of times, it isn't so bad. The restaurant is excellent.

Some of the staff can be just a bit snooty (this can't be avoided in France!). The unheated pool was small and not too comfortable. All things considered, though, we would definitely go back.

Our family stayed there for a week in Feb 2001. Nice, newish hotel located in France, literally across the street from Monaco. I believe all of the rooms are seaview with balconies. There's a nearby shopping center with a grocery store, as well as several nearby restaurants on the marina. The heliport is nearby, if you don't want to be bothered with driving in and parking.

Not exactly what I'd call a "luxury" hotel - just a good solid Marriott. Bruce's comments about the staff sound right - I had a really good rate (140 Euros for a suite) that the manager insisted was a mistake! Also had my passport "borrowed" by the housekeeping staff - it was returned a few days later after the management identified the culprit using electronic room key access records.

All things considered, very good value for the money in this area, we would definitely return.

Add me to the list of satisfied stayers at this property. I was there for a week in late April of this year and enjoyed it. I didn't find the staff snooty at all and the location is - as advertised here - excellent. I'd stay there again.

I agree with all of the above statements. Stayed there a few years ago for five nights and had blast - steps from Monaco, short train ride to Nice, and can get to a lot of other great places along the Riviera easily.

Since this is one of the few waterfront properties Marriott has in Europe, I highly recommend it!

I take issue with the 'snooty staff' comments. Maybe I had the good staff on duty that day.

We were only there for one night and arrived too late for any sightseeing tours. So the Marriott shuttle driver gave us a complete tour of Monaco in the Marriott minibus free of charge.

That's quite an understatement. I drove around Monaco about 5 times before I finally figured out how to get there.

Good solid property though, we stayed there for 5 days back in 2002.

Just stayed there last week. Good hotel. Breakfast is included for Plat members during the weekdays in the resturant since there is no exec. lounge.

Taxi from Nice airport would cost about 70 Euros, there is a bus available outside of baggage claim for $14.80 Euro one way, and it stops nearly in front of the marriott. Marriott has a shuttle that will pick you up just about anywhere in Monaco (including the train station). Although I expected to use the free shuttle to get to the train station, it was not running the morning I left because of an upcoming soccer match later that day (had to take a cab for about 8 Euros).

Rooms are small but nice. High speed internet is coming. Free ethernet cable to one laptop on the second floor (likely going to go away when guest rooms ethernet is working).

The property is good, but I love monaco - one of my favorite places to visit.

Thumbs up Marriott in Monaco

Just wanted to give people a heads up about this property - I was in Monaco for one night last week while roadtripping through the region. I stayed at this property & had an excellent time. This hotel had quite possibly the best & most knowledgeable front desk agent (Mohan) that I have ever experienced. Everyone at this hotel was friendly & professional - one of th best staff's I've ever encountered.

We got a room overlooking the Mediterranean Sea and the hotel has the new Marriott beds already - so, we got a great night's sleep. There's a free shuttle that only runs til 10PM - but it'll take you to key locations around Monte Carlo. The train from Monaco to Nice is 6.80 Euros roundtrip & a cab ride back from the casino area is only 12 Euros.

If you happen to do a stay at this hotel and you are driving yourself, don't park in the self-park, which is 1.40 Euro per hour (I don't think it's owned by the hotel - I think its public parking & the 1.40 per hour is a discounted rate), park along the side entrance road - there are limited spots, but it's completely free.

Editted to add:

The cost of a cab to the hotel from NCE is about 75 Euro - for 75 Euro per person, you can take a 7-minute helicopter ride from NCE to the airport & do a mini helicopter tour on the way - beautiful part of the world!

I have a room booked at this hotel on 10/22/2005 after the cruise ends, is the 75Euro the cost to get to NCE airport, if thats the case the helicopter ride sounds a bit better to me. Thanks for all the info.

I have stayed there 4 times now and it is a really wonderful property. Mohan is great and the views from most of the rooms are great. It is also one of the few properties that I have been treated extra special as a PLT.

Take the train. It is much cheaper. It was about 5 bucks when I did it in 2000.
