Well, it's 113 USD value at minimum (provided you use Starpoints purchased on sale and converted to Marriott) and much more if compared to their cash rates. I wouldn't say 113 USD is poor, though in Bangkok or China you could do better.

For a night – yes, and then? Is it worth pain to fly all the way to Phu Quoc just to get a higher paper value? More expensive doesn't necessarily mean better, by the way.

Wonder what you call super-cheap. I have seen a rather low rate of 84 USD (plus taxes) for it, but typically it's as high as 110 USD and up. That's not cheap: both ICs go for about the same price and CP is usually cheaper. That's Vietnam, not Korea or Japan!

The JW used to offer a free shuttle to the lake area (not too often but still....) - do they not still do this or are people not aware of it?

The shuttle is still available.

Free shuttle can take you to the city centre 3 times a day (and stops at major attractions in the city).

Completed a 7 night stay here last week.

The hotel gets really high marks from check-in to check-out.

Upon arrival at the front desk, I was escorted to the lounge for check-in.

As a platinum member, I was upgraded to a deluxe suite with a garden/water view. The room was modern and sophisticated just like the hotel itself.

Room was super clean with ample universal electric outlets. Bath amenities were of Aromatherapy Associates with full-size body lotion, shampoo and conditioner. Separate private toilet and rain shower with a bathtub island off centre.

The lounge is located on 6th floor which is accessible with your room key. The service was fantastic. The staff were always friendly and welcoming. The lounge never felt crowded and I never had issues with finding a place to sit. Plus they constantly were clearing dishes.

Breakfast consisted of made to order eggs, hot oatmeal, pancakes and french toast in addition to an extensive buffet that included sushi, fresh cut fruit and juices, various cheeses, freshly baked pastries and bread, cereal and yoghurt.

In the evenings the spread was different each day which was great for someone like myself who was there for multiple days. Hot food included fresh made to order pasta, crab cakes, chicken satay, fajitas, breaded shrimp, miso soup. steamed rice, spicy beef stirfry. The desserts were of excellent quality too - the type you'd find in a high-end French pastry shop. They had macaroons, eclairs, chocolate ganache torte, creme caramel to name a few.

The fitness centre is on the small side but all the equipment was new and they provided complimentary water and fruit. Next to the fitness centre was the pool which was huge! I never saw more than 2 people using the pool all the times I was there.

The spa was on the expensive side which is expected for a hotel but to give you a better idea of the price difference... I wanted a manicure and pedicure the price at the hotel was VND 900,000 = $40 USD however, in the city I paid 60,000 VND = $2.75 USD. I did give the girl a 300,000 VND tip and she nearly fainted! For me it wasn't about the cost it was more about supporting a local small business.

The hotel does offer complimentary shuttle service x3 times a day to the city centre. On the day I used it, there was just myself so the hotel paid for a taxi.

Over-all I really enjoyed my stay here. The Marriott standards which you come to expect were not only met but were exceeded!

I wonder if people know about it at all. When I wanted to use the shuttle, I have been the only person too, and they provided me a car instead.

Not sure if this is the right thread. The beast and other motorcade vehicles are parked here at the Marriott. Lots of security too.

Shuttle service is 3x daily. Must be booked two hours in advance. Too inconvenient for me so I just use grab.

Platinum upgrade to club level room. Nice enough room. No suite, but they are pretty busy I'm assuming with whatever is going on with the summit.

Edit:

Now there is a metal detector and x-ray setup at the entrance of the lobby and at least 50 heavily armed guards onsite.

Just finished a 5 night award stay here with some friends and was upgraded to a deluxe suite with lounge access. Had to pay the third person charge in the room and lounge use per day for third person.

Breakfast was in the lounge only — they don’t allow you to eat downstairs when on a points reservation. Breakfast was your normal run of the mill ... made to order eggs, congee, noodle soup, various breads, a few hot and cold items. It filled us up for the morning and it worked. I prefer the restaurant downstairs as the variety is greater .. but oh well.

Room was a good size with a large bathroom so three adults didn’t feel cramped at all. Beds were super comfortable. They delivered extra water bottles and we always grabbed a few from the lounge.

Never ate the hotel — we went to old quarter or went to the front of the hotel to grab something. There is a decently priced hot pot restaurant that just opened across the street and they have large portions.

Also, across the hotel is a small alley where we found laundry shops. They charged us 12k dong for a kilo ... which is just awesome. We washed laundry twice during our stay paying a total of 96k dong.

We we never used the shuttle as the timings were just inconvenient for us. Grab app worked the best and prices weren’t expensive to go to the old quarter.

Hotel was great but it is a busy place.

Traveled with family and booked 2 rooms. 2 different nights. Used points.
First night - both rooms were executive suites.
2nd stay - got the Grand Suite and Chairman Suite which are both directly across the hall from each other. The Chairman's suite is about 2700 sqft and was massive. 2nd best suite on property just below Presidential. Despite the size, the suite only had 1 king bed.

Location - not convenient. Used Grab app to get around the city/old quarter. Drive to old quarter with traffic (7:30am) took about 1hr.

On our last day, we had to catch a flight - we went here to eat. Quán Ngon Restaurant Trung Hňa (about a 10 min drive away). Very crowded during lunch time and it seemed to be all locals.

I just booked a 7 night stay on points. One night is free; 17,500 per night times 6 nights = 105,000 points. Seems like a good use of my points as the room rate in August was about $180 USD per night.

Lots of great information is this thread.

Thats not a bad redemptions at all.

When I was looking around the summer ‘30%’ sale, which is really just advertising the normal prepaid rates, the nonrefundable cash rate came to with tax and fees US$ 1,100 for 7 nights at the end of August. So worst case you got 1cpp which isn’t bad at all. Compared to the flex rate with tax and fee it’s better.

Doing a points stay here next weekend, first time in Hanoi.

I'm assuming using Grab to/fro Airport to Hotel and getting around the city would be the best bet? I'll try to use the Hotel shuttle to the city as well.

Yeah, Grab works decently. If you are alone, Grab bike is much faster than car.

Yep, Grab was convenient to use and cars readily available.
