The LV Marriott is a Marriott Suites, which is kind of a sub-chain. I've stayed in a few of them, and they're all pretty much the same as the Vegas one. So, it's not competing with suites and villas in the big resorts. That said, I generally like the layout and decor of those rooms.

That said, if they would ever fix the mechanical issues with the heating/cooling system and everything, the hotel would still be top-notch. The open area with the bedroom, sink and closets, with the AC right there, is a major design flaw. When those things get cranking, or your neighbor's does, it can be really hard to sleep.

Plat Amenity Las Vegas/Free Breakfast

Question about Las Vegas:

Any hotels with free breakfast or continental breakfast.

Or

Any hotels that offer free breakfast for platinum amenity?

Thanks!

The LV Marriott is free breakfast for plats (sit down at the restaurant). I didn't partake so can't give you any more details but it is a current benefit there (was there 2 weeks ago).

The JW Marriott offers free continental breakfast with an option to upgrade to the full buffet for $10. I was this there this week. Also complementary valet parking for Plats.

The resort fee (discounted from $30 to $15, not sure why, but the place was empty and the rooms were only $99 so perhaps an effort to drive occupancy) included 2 free drinks at each of the 3 restaurants so 6 drinks total. We received a coupon book with the drink tickets along with other discounts/perks.

The JW is 15-20min from the strip so just something to keep in mind. I actually prefer being away from the strip, especially when seeking reasonable restaurant/dinner prices.

It's good and complete. Choice of buffet or menu.

That's what I was going to say. I've stayed at LAS Marriott many years in a row for a major convention & the Plat brekkie was always full hot buffet or a meal off the menu. I normally went w/ the big buffet because I was so busy at the convention I never had time for lunch & it would tide me over to dinner. Something to note. even if you do the buffet, you can still ask for a made-to-order omelette. Also, the staff at this property are great!! So is the GM. It all flows downward. This is one of my favorite properties.

I always thought I was a light sleeper but I didn't really notice catocony's a/c noise issue, so that might be a YVMV thing.

FWIW - the only difference in the suites is one style has the french doors separating the bedroom from the living room (which I always pick; a bit of privacy & sound barrier) & the other doesn't (more open concept). The other difference (nothing to do w/ suites) is one side of the hotel faces Wynn & part of a golf course & the other side faces a parking lot (I always pick the Wynn side). Other than that, the suites are the same.

Cheers.

I'm scrounging for info and advice. Would appreciate some comments.

My wife has a 40K point free night cert and 1 Suite Night Award request remaining for 2019. We'll be driving home and passing through Las Vegas on a Friday in late May and are thinking that a one night stopover using that 40K certificate might be fun. Since we'll have our car, we could stay off-strip. This is mostly to just relax and hope for a nice room (hopefully a room upgrade) in order to break up a long drive. So, which hotel to pick? Her status is Plat Premier.

I have gleaned the following from FT threads and the Marriott website (and you can correct me if any of this is wrong):
1. The JW Marriott - no concierge lounge, $15 resort fee for Plats, free continental breakfast with an option to upgrade to the full buffet for $10, no parking fee, away from the strip. According to the Marriott website there are 79 suites out of a 469 rooms. Basic rooms seem to be 560 sq feet. We'd get drink coupons, but we're not big drinkers and most of those coupons would go unused.
2. Renaissance - does have a lounge, but it may be closed on Friday evening, lounge breakfast may be fairly plain vanilla, $15 parking fee, only 30 suites out of 518 rooms, basic King room is 395 sq feet.
3. Las Vegas Marriott - all suite, but these are not that grand or impressive from the pictures (380 sq feet), no lounge, has a good full breakfast buffet, $15 parking fee

So....

If you're looking for a one night stopover to make our long drive more leisurely and more fun, and hoping for a chance of a nice room and nice treatment, which would you choose? None of these seem perfect for us. Or should I look at other properties? (I just don't like the idea of using a 40K certificate at a 25K point Vegas hotel.)

Thanks.

If you're just looking for rest and relaxation somewhere nice, the location of both the Marriott and Rennaisance by the Convention Center seems lousy. Sure it's off the Strip, but not in a good way.

If I was going to be around Las Vegas, wanted a nice place, was loyal to Marriott, and didn't care about gambling or drinking on the Strip, I'd certainly opt for the JW Marriott.

Would your certificates also work at legacy Starwood properties? Isn't there a Westin at Lake Las Vegas?

(Obviously avoid the regular Westin Las Vegas on Flamingo Rd. It's a dump. Hardly any suites either.)

Thanks for the comment. I agree that the JW seems more tempting than the Marriott or the Ren. It won't matter to us that we're off the strip. What matters most to me is that I like to treat my wife as royally as I can, and I know she gets a kick out of a nice room upgrade, a nice breakfast, and a lounge.

Yes, there is a Westin at Lake Las Vegas. I didn't spot it at first because it didn't come up for me when I searched the Marriott website for Las Vegas hotels. There's a thread in this forum, but info is sketchier.
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marr...er-thread.html

From what I can gather about the Westin Lake Las Vegas:
1. 447 rooms, 46 suites. The basic room is 396 sq ft, a Junior suite is 524 sq ft, and there are higher level suites as well. (I have learned to look at the ratio of suites to total rooms to try to get some sense about the chance of an upgrade.)
2. There is a resort fee. Perhaps half would be waived, perhaps not.
3. No lounge
4. It's a category 3, perhaps because of its location well away from the strip?
5. The hotel was apparently renovated not long ago.
6. As a Plat Premier, we'd probably be offered the breakfast buffet.

(And yes, SNAs do work at legacy Starwood properties. I successfully used 5 SNAs in my own account just last month at the Le Meridien Chiang Mai. We were upgraded to a very spacious suite with a lovely view. It was a big hit with my wife.)

I have stayed at both JW and Westin Lake LV. They are rather different properties. JW is an off strip casino property while Westin is a true resort without a casino. JW rooms are larger and suite upgrade chances are good. But it feels like a typical Vegas hotel and casino is somewhat down market. Westin is set by a lake with beautiful view and true resort feel. OTOH, rooms are smaller and upgrade usually only to alcove junior suite. Westin could have been a desert resort in Arizona or New Mexico.

Personally, I much prefer Westin but I understand some may prefer JW. It is a matter of personal preference.

Towne Place Henderson Parking fees

Learned that both Towne Place & Springhill Suites next door in Henderson charge $10 parking fee per day.
Anyway to get this waved, as a Gold memeber or otherwise?

Having lived in Las Vegas for 16 months now, it is nice to have this thread available for potential mattress runs.

What is the trundle bed like in the Springhill Suites Las Vegas Convention Center two queens + trundle room? Is it suitable for a relatively petite adult?
