Plats receive:

* 20% discount on food & beverage including alcohol
* 15% discount on laundry
* 50% bonus on base points
* 20% discount on Quan Spa for a la carte menu
* Room upgrade (subject to availability)
* Late 4pm checkout (subject to availability)
* Platinum arrival gift
* Complimentary wi-fi

A guess (and it's only that) is that Golds receive similar excluding the Plat arrival gift.

Hat tip to DYKWIA: For anybody that needs transportation to/from Bangkok, we used Hua Hin Cab. Very pleasant driver and a clean car with water provided. Cost is 1900 Bhat each way, which is cheaper than quoted from Bangkok companies. http://huahincab.com/

Today I saw the front of the Hotel. Its a massve new buliding. It has absolute nothing do do with he old marriott.

It looks big but very nice, that could be really be a nice property.

The Front from the street

this newly built property replaced the 30+ old Marriott, formally the Royal Garden, so should be a completely updated property, built by a new owner who hired the former GM of the Phuket Renaissance Resort.

Employee apartments and tennis courts replaced by added units, but wonder how the spa area has been changed, if any.

The pool access rooms look like a copy of the Sheraton Cha Am.

Maybe they got the plans as a part of the acquisition.

"Set to welcome its first guests this March, the new Hua Hin Marriott Resort & Spa is set on 3.5 hectares of beachfront land in Hua Hin, two hours’ drive south of Bangkok.

All of the 322 rooms and suites feature a private balcony or terrace, while the top floor suites also offer separate living and dining areas, kitchens and bars.

Facilities at the resort include a lagoon-style swimming pool, an adult-only pool, the Quan Spa, a 24-hour fitness centre, and extensive children’s facilities including a kid’s club, treehouse, kid’s pool and a water park with slides.

F&B options include the international Amber Kitchen with indoor and outdoor seating, the Big Fish & Bar seafood restaurant, a pool bar and a pastry shop. And for the MICE market, Hua Hin Marriott offers a ballroom, several other function rooms and outdoor event spaces."

Two hours' drive from Bangkok? Only theoretically possible, and then only if your driver lacks a healthy fear of death!

There was a recent post on this property which suggested that Elite recognition might be weak at this property... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/marri...-thailand.html

I guess we won't know for sure until it opens.

sorry but this press release is not correct - this is not the first Marriott branded property in Hua Hin inasmuch as in the exact same location there was a former Marriott/Royal Gardens property here for the last 20+ years which was leveled and replaced by this newly built Marriott.

Others might recognize the GMs name as he was previously GM of Ren Phuket.

So, is this a good sign or a bad sign.
I have never been to Ren HKT but thinking about staying here in July. My other choices are the Hyatt or Hilton, but for now leaning towards the Marriott.

Met the new Ren HKT GM during last stay- very personable and involved. I've never stayed at the Hyatt as always pre-arrival upgraded at Ren so why change! Previously stayed at Hilton before Ren opened - was a tired property 6 years ago so would avoid. Of the 3 choices listed only the Ren on the beach. And personally, I'd avoid the nearby JW.
