Chicago Marriott Naperville [Master Thread]

Anyone stayed here yet? From my online searching, looks like it was an old Holiday Inn that they renovated and opened in March. Is it anything special or is it a typical Marriott? I'm looking to use a Cat4 free night soon and it'll probably have to be the Chicago area; unfortunately, everything downtown is far above Cat4 (unless someone has any good suggestions in Chicagoland for Cat4?).

I stayed here in May shortly after it opened. It was a nice hotel. We paid for our room, and I think it was around $95/night for Memorial Day weekend. Had a lounge, but we didnt get to use it too much because it was closed over the weekend.

The lobby is nice and spacious. Has a restuarant and bar, but we did not use either of these.

Location was decent. Near highways and a shopping plaza across the street with a bagel shop for breakfast.

Overall, it seems like a typical Marriott. Nothing special, but its clean.

In the late 1980s, when I stayed at the property that is now the Chicago Marriott Naperville (1801 North Naper Boulevard, Naperville, IL), it was a very nice, full-service Sheraton. It later became an independent hotel and then a Holiday Inn Select (not regular Holiday Inn).

It was built to be a first class suburban hotel, with spacious public areas and good-sized rooms. I understand that the Holiday Inn Select was allowed to deteriorate over the years.

Now, with a $30 million renovation to become a full-service Marriott, it should once again be a good choice for people seeking a hotel in that area. But I have no personal experience with it.

The area itself has developed well for travelers, with nearby restaurants such as Maggiano's Little Italy, Morton's the Steakhouse, and various counter service choices.

Look at the Linconshire Marriott Resort. It's a Cat 1-4 I believe. It's not a fantastic resort & is a bit old, but still might be more fun than a regular suburban hotel.

Cheers.

I just stayed at this property in mid-July, and compared to when it was the Holiday Inn Select, it is gorgeous. We were given a very spacious room with 2 queens (may have been bigger than normal because it was handicap-accessible). The decor was very nice as well. Didn't have a chance to check out the CL because it is closed on weekends, but overall a very nice property.

However, like someone else said, the rates here are incredibly cheap (or at least were for the weekend we were there), so if you're looking to get the most value out of your cert ($$ versus category level), this may not be the best choice.

I am staying at this hotel currently and I think this place is a playground for adults :)

Nice pool area with mood lighting at dusk. Normal lights come on when it is pitch black outside. Spacious workout facilities with plenty of cardio equipment. The service is fantastic and they really do care about their guests. I had an issue with my sink and it took engineering all but 5 seconds to be knocking on my door.
Get a room X20. It's a corner room and quite spacious. The renovation is beautifully done. Oh, they are Eco-friendly here. You have to insert your room key to turn on the lights. The only annoyance I have is the reserved parking spaces (lots of them) for eco-friendly/fuel efficient vehicles. They take up the majority of the spaces closest to the hotel. I guess they don't realize that most car rental companies have ZERO hybrid vehicles in their fleets.
Otherwise, I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Those parking spaces are annoying indeed. Must be about 20 of them! it's icy outside and there's not a single one of them filled!

Other than that I like this property. Rooms are beautifully done, very spacious, with good amenities.

At check-in I was given the arrival points AND allowed to select an amenity. CL lounge is open 6am-10am and then 6pm-10pm M-F and 6pm-10pm Sunday. Have not checked it out yet, but I plan to shortly.

Chicago Marriott Naperville

Hey all, I wanted to give you guys the scoop on a property. I don't normally do this unless they really tick me off so...

The Chicago Marriott Naperville is out in the suburbs of Chicago in, well, Naperville. Traffic not withstanding you're looking at about 30-40 minutes from Ohare.

In my travels, I have to say this hotel has given me one of the best Marriott experiences I've had. No hotel is perfect and the one thing I did bring up was handled quickly. The staff is professional and have really internalized the concept of taking care of the guest. From my conversations with the GM to the desk agents and the servers in the restaurant, everyone I've encountered has been top-notch.

Most of the time I stay at Courtyards because of the location/customer rate. Occasionally, I get to stay at the full-service properties. Of those, the vast majority have had restaurants that honestly, have been "Meh". Good in a pinch, but always wanting something a little better. That isn't the case here. The executive chef has set up a restaurant with nothing short amazing food. I have had a number of conversations with him and he sources his food locally. And it's organic. And they harvest their own honey from BEEHIVES ON THE ROOF. Seriously. Chef has offered to go off menu for me numerous times and all I have to do is bring him the 'idea' of what I want. He likes to keep his kitchen on their toes. :) I watch Food Network over the weekend and come back with stuff.

Get the duck. Seriously. I've had it no less than 8 times. Off. The. Hook.

I've come out here 8 out of 9 weeks (stayed home for one) and they have definitely treated me well. I hope my travels bring me out here again so I can stay with them again.

Thanks for the update on the property & the chef!

Cheers.

Anyone stay here recently and can provide any recent updates? Considering a staycation around Naperville and am wondering about this one again? (Funny to see that I am the one who started this thread 7 years ago!)

dcchi May 27, 2019 4:36 pm

We just finished a 3-night staycation at the Naperville Marriott over the Memorial Day weekend. I was very pleased. Location is very close off I-88 and near downtown Naperville. Close by are a number of nice restaurants (Morton's, Maggiano's, and other non-chain but nice restaurants) that are actually walkable (under 10 minutes) if the weather is nice and you so desire.

As a Titanium Elite, because the lounge was closed over the holiday weekend (not sure, but my sense was that it was normally closed over the weekend, but was also, understandably, closed on Memorial Day), we were given vouchers for breakfast for two in the lobby restaurant. The breakfast buffet was very satisfactory (good eggs, both sausage/bacon, smoked salmon, decent selection of other stuff, along with a make-to-order omelette/waffle station). The voucher was definitely limited to 2 total persons, which was fine (on one morning, all 5 of us (i.e., 3 kids) went to breakfast and we were charged for 2 of our older kids @ the normal rate of $15....like I said, that was fair and I knew that going in). We were also given a single $10 F&B credit (which was used at the lobby Starbucks), though I wasn't sure if that was in lieu of PAG points or not (in any case, I wasn't too focused on it).

We used the pool all three days and it was very nice in my opinion. It was not huge but it wasn't tiny either. It got constant use by guests in addition to us, but we never felt it was overcrowded. (Next to the pool were men's and women's bathrooms that actually each had as shower in them.) The pool towels were abundant and continually restocked, which was nice.

The room was a standard, decent, clean Marriott room. The bathroom was tiny, though.

Free parking (as you'd expect in suburbia),

Requested and was granted without any issue 4pm late checkout, though we did not end up using that.

I'd stay here again.

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

Cheers.

Any recent experiences here? Wondering if anything has changed for the worse with COVID - have stayed here previously and enjoyed it.

Just booked a points stay over this coming 4th of July weekend because the cash rate is $225/night + tax but points is only 16500/night, which is an incredible ratio. I know the lounge will be closed (and it looks like it maybe never reopened anyway?).

I was also looking for any recent updates on this property. Any positive/negative/meh experiences to share?

I stay here regularly for work. It's decent - clean, good breakfast but a little dated in the room decor.

Lounge is open weekdays, not stayed at weekend. Waters and soft drinks all day along with the expected cheese, pasta/deep fried stuff you get in most Marriott lounges in the evenings. There are a good few decent restaurants within 10min walk of the hotel.

No lounge breakfast. Breakfast is downstairs and is good. Nice spread of warm buffet, cold fruit and meats along with a made to order egg/omelette station.

They are decent on upgrades but depends on the week. I'm titanium and get upgraded 80% time. Last 6 trips, twice to suites (very dark, disappointing rooms) and the rest to concierge level (normal rooms but higher floor). They are working with what they have.

Gym is ok, small. No pool. Haven't eaten at the bar as I prefer to get out of the hotel in the evenings. They do live music on some evenings through the week in the bar.

So a solid stay depending on price. Can get very expensive at times. Other nicer alternatives somewhat nearby (Westin Lombard or Oakbrook Le Meridian if you want and within driving distance)
