Current cash back for Marriott.com: (Last updated July-2020)

While supplies last, until Friday, July 24, 2020, select Marriott eGiftCards are available at a 15% discount.
  • $50 gift card for $42.50
  • $100 gift card for $85
  • $250 gift card for $212.50
  • $500 gift card for $425
  • $1,000 gift card for $850
You can use Marriott gift cards to pay for Marriott stays (not applicable for discounted prepaid rates), resort fees and parking fees, treatments at the spa, dining at Marriott properties and more. Keep in mind, however, that some Marriott brands do not accept Marriott gift cards. This includes Bulgari, Design Hotels, Homes & Villas by Marriott International and The Ritz-Carlton Destination Club and possibly more.

Current portal earning and noticeable deals and discounts (July-2020):
Rakuten: 1.5%
MrRebates: 0%
TopCashBack & BeFrugal:
Asia Pacific: 5%
Europe, Africa, etc: 5%
US/Canada Properties: 3%
There are others as well. See evreward.com and cashbackmonitor.com for other current deals.

Pros and cons of buying hotel Gift Cards:

Pros:
1. 15% discount. We do not get additional earning from credit card since we would have earned the same points by paying with cash (credit card)
2. Good for mattress runs at reduced costs. Assume score lower room rates.

Cons:
1. Commitment to a single brand Marriott. Eliminate the flexibility of stays with Hilton, IHG, Hyatt and other brands.
2. GCs are prepaid funds. The funds do not earn anything (interest). We lose the time value of money. The longer we do not use the GCs, we more we lose.
3. GC values are not protected (perishable). The physical GCs can get lost or stolen. We may forget to use the GCs. The GCs can be hacked and value drained. After the GC purchases, the credit card protection is gone.
4. GCs are not accepted at all hotels. Marriott hotels are more decentralized and it carries so many brands. Some do not follow Marriott rules and they may not accept those GCs even though they should. A lot hotels overseas do not accept the GCs.
5. GCs have limitation. At current time, they can't be used to book prepaid hotel stays. This defeats the main purpose of buying the GCs. The GC holders are not entitled for the discounted hotel rates.
6. GCs are dominated in US $ only. Even if they are accepted at foreign location, GC holders lose further more from foreign exchange. With credit card, we may get to choose to charge in USD $ or local currency.
7. GCs can't be redeemed for cash. If GC holders ever want to get the cash out of the GCs due to financial hardship, they can only be sold at the secondary markets like eBay etc. at steep costs.

To check card balance, visit gifts.marriott.com.
For Customer Service call +1 800.442.6132 or email [email protected].
Gift Card Registration: Lost, stolen or damaged cards will be replaced only if previously registered on gifts.marriott.com. Value of replaced card will equal balance on card at the time it was reported lost, stolen or damaged.

Notes:
1) If you make an LNF/BRG adjustment to your reservation you will still get cash back.

For those of us who chase Ultimate Reward points (that can then be moved on to United, Hyatt, and more), it is possible to earn nearly 10X points when buying Marriott gift cards at Staples. If you have a Chase Ink card, you get 5X bonus points for purchases at office supply stores. There are additional points when purchased thru the Ultimate Rewards Mall. This month it is Ink 5X, Sapphire & Freedom 4X. The 5X and 5X combine for 10X. The Ts and Cs say you won't get points, but in actual experience, everyone has reported that they have. There are no shipping and handling charges for gift cards.

I've updated the OP with the information you've provided. Thanks for the heads up!

Though Mr. Rebates includes Marriott in that list, they don't have a dedicated page specifying gift card eligibility (instead, Marriott is just grouped in with other gift card merchants). More concerning, however, is the fact that their affiliate link points to the main Marriott site, not the gifts.marriott.com one. Because it requires the spawning of a new window/tab to order Gift Cards via the main site, I'm not sure that the tracking code will pass through via the cookie. TopCashBack has a dedicated page and link for gifts.marriott.com, and as they also pay 5%, I'd suggest sticking with them. Mr. Rebates could be a viable alternative for the next couple weeks until that 5% expires, but it carries more risk. Thanks for the follow-up.

I asked Mr. Rebates about Gift Cards for Marriott - they replied:

Thank you for your inquiry.

Please follow the link on the Marriott landing page to the Gift Cards section and make your purchase.

Since Marriott does commission cash back for gift cards, it will be able to track the purchase.

Please let me know if you have any further questions and thank you for using Mr. Rebates.

I tried TCB, and it's hopeless, I'm not sure if I even dare to trust them anymore. You can check out this thread under Club Carlson - it went well at first but then at around post #100 you can start seeing people not getting cash back and basically it turned out to be a BIG mess. I don't think anyone posted on that thread got the cash back from TCB including myself. I asked them question on FB and found out that I wasn't the only one who had trouble with TCB outside FT.

Yes, commissions are paid on Gift Cards, but they may not realize that when you move from the main site to the gifts.marriott.com one, it spawns a new window. If tracking is preserved, then they are correct, but often new window spawning breaks it. That's why I'd say there's more risk than sticking with something that takes you directly to the affiliate link embedded on the gifts.marriott.com site.

TCB and Mr. Rebates use the same affilaite program (CJ) for Marriott. Unless you are accusing TCB of fraud, I don't see why you'd expect a difference. I'm aware that TCB, being a relatively new site, is the focus of a million conspiracy theories, but a new company working out bugs in code and smoothing their process doesn't make them "shady". TCB has worked perfectly for me and many others multiple times. See the various links and explanations I included in the OP for help on the cash back issue. Most often, it is user error or compatibility oversight. That said, if not comfortable, Mr. Rebates is certainly a good alternative option right now if you trust the window spawning, and Big Crumbs is another option that pays pretty well and doesn't rely on a new window spawn.

Yes, I think there is a risk that Mr. Rebates can't track the cash back. However since I have their words that it will get cash back in case it doesn't track. I would strong suggest if anyone wants to use Mr. Rebates for GC purchases to write to them to ask about it first, I wouldn't do it without them confirming it in writing.

I do know how to use cash back sites and I have been able to get cash back from mr. rebates and ebates.

What I'm not happy about TCB is that:

1. Their FT rep has 'disappeared';
2. I can't see my tracking tickets, so I have no idea if my cash back is tracked;
3. I dealt with their CS and they are definitely not the best.

I have had cash back not confirmed by Mr. Rebates amd Ebates and they sorted it out and paid me even though they couldn't see the cash back.

I don't accuse TCB for fraud but more incompetence. What I can imagine that they have technical issues at the moment, and that they are trying to sort out at the moment.

Previously I bought GCs through hoopla doopla and they also couldn't track the cash back - I guess they might not be able to track as easily as for internet users in ther US. Their CS was good and I got my $ back.

I'm just worried that I ended up not getting my cash back purchases from TCB.

Anyway I'll report back if I get my cash back or not with Mr. Rebates.

Mooper: I'm not trying to sabotage/accuse TCB or anything, I'm just pointing out my experience with it and my doubts. I love their idea too and I do hope to use them again in the future.

What I'm not happy about TCB is that:
There are many threads debating the pros and cons about various cash back providers. It is an endless discussion. Some people have conspiracy theories, some have legitimate good or bad experiences, and everyone has one they love and hate. My suggestion is to leave those discussions for other threads and just provide the offer details here. I appreciate that you did so upthread... I didn't know about the Mr. Rebates offer, and thanks to you, it's now included.

Given the frequency of your bad tracking experiences with various CB providers all using the same affiliate platform, I suspect there is something else going on (perhaps cookies not tracking properly because of software configuration, country filters, etc.). I hope you figure it out... frustrating!

My GC purchase was tracked and confirmed by Mr. Rebates - 5%

I bought $900 Marriott GC last night and I got a cash back confirmation from Mr. Rebates for my cash back $45.

It didn't open a new window when I clicked on the GC section at marriott.com. Anyway it works and I don't think I'll have trouble getting the $.

The AMT code that gives 10% bonus on GCs + 5% cash back with Mr. Rebate/Top Cash Back is awesome.

Does anyone know how long it takes for you to actually receive cashback from TCB for a Marriott gift card purchase? I got it confirmed and pending and stuff, but it's been like 2 months...

Also OP, where is the "20% off all Marriott stays" offer that you have in your signature? Is that the $10 for $50 gift card purchase? That wouldn't be 20% off all Marriott stays...
