Taste of Gold/Platinum
You are given gold/platinum status for 90 days, and you must complete a certain number of nights/stays to retain that status for the remainder of the year plus the following year. This promotion is targeted only.

Road to Gold/Platinum (a.k.a. Gold/Platinum Challenge)
Currently, this will allow you to move up one level with a shortened stay criteria. You have 90 days to complete 6/9 stays to receive Gold/Platinum status. If you do no qualify, you are eligible to start another challenge one year and one day after the 90th day of the challenge you just did. When you sign up, the MR CSR should tell you the date you are eligible to do another challenge.

FAQ

Q: What qualifies as a stay?
A: One paid night at a Marriott-brand (including Ritz-Carlton Hotels) hotel. Cash+points rate does not qualify. SPG hotels does not qualify (as of 03/2017). Some exclusions may apply, someone please help fill this in.

Q: Can I simply book multiple, consecutive one-night stays at the same hotel?
A: No.

Q: Can I jump between multiple Marriotts in the area?
A: Yes. As long as you book at least one night at each property. Special care must be taken if the Marriott properties are next to each other. They may share the same back-office. While you may book one night at each property on consecutive nights, which should count as two stays, it may only count as one stay. A call to Marriott Rewards should split them up correctly.

Q: Can I book multiple nights at different properties for the same night to get multiple stay credits?
A: No. Regardless how many different places you book for the same night, it all counts as one stay.

Q: Can I sign up for both Gold and Platinum Challenges at the same time?
A: No. Only one challenge per year.

Q: I'm Silver, can I do the Platinum challenge?
A: No. This is only a one-level promotion. You are only eligible for the Gold challenge.

Q: Can a non-elite do the Gold Challenge
A: No. Must be Silver.

Q: I just completed my 6th/9th stay. When should I see my new status?
A: Good job! Your new status should appear after your 6th/9th stay posts to your account.

Q: Can I book a meeting to get a stay credit?
A: No. You will only receive 10 night credits, not a stay credit.

Platinum/Gold Challenge question

Hi friends,

I am a Hilton Honors Diamond Member and a Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum member.

I searched but have not got a clear answer as yet...so here goes....

I am thinking of booking my future 2011 stays in a Marriott property, and was wondering how I can go about trying to get Gold/Platinum status?

I have read something about challenges, but not sure whom/how to contact the appropriate department and whether the challenge is still available?

I will sincerely appreciate any pointers that you can give.

Thanks,
wonderfultravels

Hi
I did a challenge recently. I believe it helps to first be a Marriott member. If you are in Asia or something, there was a promo that gives you instant Silver I believe.

You can email [email protected] to inquire about their Taste of Gold / Plat prog. I believe its an on-going thing.
You basically need to hit 12 / 18 nights over 90 days in order to qualify. Its pretty much up to them if they would like to offer you the Gold / Plat prog. But I do read that the Taste of Plat prog is a once in a lifetime thing..

Have fun.

I think that only the status match or the bump-up to Platinum is only once in a lifetime!! The challenges i believe are once in a year!!

I participated in a promo in January that gave me Gold after 12 nights! 6 months later i called for a platinum challenge, which i will hopefully make with my regular stays by the end of the year. The CS representative was kind enough to provide me with a Plat challenge (18 nights), but i would make Plat only after i had completed the challenge, because i had one that gave me the status instantly within the year!!

I politely declined, since i will make Plat anyways after 20 nights and i didn't want to reset the clock..!!

Thanks for the replies. Is there a phone number I should call them on or is the email address good enough?

Thanks,

Actually there is a bit of strategy to this. They will give you a full 3 months to complet it. If you call on Oct 1 to activate your challenge you will have to get your 12/18 (gold/Plat) stay in Oct, Nov and December. If you call for the challenge on Oct 3 on you have the rest of Oct, nov, dec and January. So don't start until just after the first of any month.

so does it benefit me to do so now? I am at 55 with 3 night scheduled next week and will get platinum before end of November.

What would I get if I "beat" this challenge?

Thanks. I am emailing the Marriott rewards procedures desk to try to set this up.

If you haven't had a challenge for the past 12 months, then you start the challenge as a platinum!! So you will earn the extra points, upgrades ect. for your next 20 nights

Just make sure it's a challenge and not a status bump/match (once in a lifetime).

Just saw this thread and wanted to say thanks for all that contributed to it. I lost my gold last year (barely made silver) and was not traveling this year until I took a new job in May of this year. I just sent an email requesting either Gold or Platinum challenge and I should make it easily due to the increase in travel towards the end of the year.

How long to hear ?

After sending an email to rewards procedures, how long does it typically take to hear from them and get enrolled ?

I requested the Plat challenge by phone. It took about one day for it to appear on the "my account" page online. Pretty fast, I'd say!

If you are approved for a challenge do you get a confirmation email or does the new status just show up in your profile ? I sent an email today and just wondering if i should expect a response or just keep checking my profile ?

I requested by phone 2 months ago and saw my status hit Platinum online within an hour.

I hit my 18th night tonight.

I, too, enrolled the first week of a month and got the remainder of that month (August) plus Sept, Oct, and Nov to achieve the 18 nights required for Platinum.

Call the MR line.
