Courtyard Ahmedabad, India [Master Thread]

I didn't see an existing review for this property (nor did I expect to). I don't normally feel compelled to write reviews, but I had such a superb experience I figured a post here would help lead others to this gem.

As I was traveling with a large group, the hotel staff invited us to have a seat in the lobby and they would approach us to check in. While the agent recognized my status, there was no indication of special treatment until I walked to the elevator - nice and discreet, no need to antagonize the coworkers for what was to come.

While the non-status travelers were given keys and directions, one of the front desk staff accompanied me on the elevator. She had me fill out a card indicating my amenity choice - I could pick a beverage (Gujarat is a dry state, so no alcohol) and a snack. She then escorted me to my room, where she mentioned that I had been upgraded because of my status. I stepped inside to see a rather long hallway...

...leading to a spacious dining and living area with that day's paper already on the end table.

Off to the left was the bedroom, which is separated from the bath area by a glass wall. If you have a traveling companion, hope privacy is not an issue.

After about 30 minutes, a porter delivered my amenities - three different flavored mango lassis and four chocolates. (Located on the table).

All solid hits so far, and all I had seen was the room. Off to the rest of the hotel. The Concierge Lounge on the top floor was still serving hot appetizers at 8:30pm. Mostly vegetarian fare as expected in this region, and honestly not too tasty, but if you're staying in this hotel, I suspect that expensing a meal would not be uncommon. The PC and printer was refreshingly free of charge, in contrast to the $20 I paid for a few printouts in another hotel earlier in the week.

The fitness center was above-average for a Courtyard, and the pool was visually breathtaking. Located on an outdoor patio, the elevated sides created an infinity effect. Alas, while the length was just long enough to swim laps (maybe 30'), one end is almost comically shallow, I found as my hands firmly met the bottom.

The service and food during the rest of my stay was all top-notch. Attentive, fresh, delicious.

If in your rambles across the globe, you should stumble through the Indian town of Ahmedabad, I would highly recommend the under-branded Courtyard. For all intents and purposes, this is a full-service hotel, with superb attention to detail at that. After 100+ nights this year in Marriotts across four continents, this experience has been by far the most enjoyable.

Has anyone been to this hotel recently? Considering the Courtyard, or the Renaissance. TIA

I have now stayed here 3 times this year and I will say that compared to rest of the Marriott hotels in India I have been to, they recognize Elite members amazingly well:
  • Recognized Gold Elite at check-in, told will receive bonus points for the stay
  • Upgraded 2/3 times
  • Room has a bed cover that says, "Thanks for being Elite", each stay there is a Coffee Mug with same that you can take with you too. A small gift in room, chocolates too.
  • During Breakfast, one of the higher up people go and greet each Elite member to get their feedback and ask if they need anything else.
  • Only hotel I have seen actually follow my "Room preferences" from reservation - extra towels and feather pillows.
Amazing experiences, highly recommended.
