Brisbane Marriott, Australia [Master Thread]

This calls for a new thread. With the Marriott 150K vacation award, If I want to go to Brisbane (this should be valid, since there is a Marriott there as well as in Surfer's Paradise) or Cairns (a Courtyard resort here), would Marriott deposit more than 60K into my UA MP account? 60K will only get me to SYD or MEL. Would they give me the additional 10-20K required for the Ansett award, or am I limited to where UA metal actually flies? I'm guessing that I'd have to come up with the extra miles or $$$ myself....

The rules, as I understand them, have *nothing* to do with where a Marriott is located. Rather, you need to look at the rules for where the airlines fly on the award. I would be almost certain that the UA award is only to where UA flies, not any add-on for codeshare or other carriers.

Brisbane Marriott

Does anyone have feedback on the Brisbane Marriott? I'm booked there for 3 days in June.

Stayed for just 1 night in Jan. A nice relatively small modern hotel. Service was excellent and as a MR plat, gone a good upgrade on exec floor, a bottle of wine and chocs comped. Cannot comment on exec lounge as it was closed but got a good breakie instead in the restaurant. Location is fine on the river just off the main centre - but it is on a small street and the taxi had a hard time finding.

You can walk up the street about 10 or 15 minutes to do some shopping and dining at the mall area- the street is closed off. Beyond that for a day, you probably need a car to go anywhere.

When I stayed there in Jan., a new cinema complex was going up across the street, it may be complete when you're there?

As a gold I didn't get a room comp, but had access to the lounge (limited service during the holidays), and, with the lounge being consequently closed in the AM, enjoyed a complimentary breakfast buffet in the hotel bistro.

A taxi had a hard time finding a Marriott? Shame on him!

Hope you're also driving a few miles down the coast and staying at the Surfer's Paradise Marriott -- which is a fantastic resort hotel.

Also, while in Brisbane, make sure to go to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary -- a great quasi-zoo where you can actually hold the Koalas and walk around freely in a kangaroo open area. check out their website www.koala.net

FWIW, I too spent a week at Surfers, specifically the Marriott, and we really enjoyed it! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Would we enjoy Surfer's Paradise in June? The highs only average about 70.

I stayed at this hotel June 16-19 2002. It's a really nice new property, on the edge of the shopping district, and a block from the river walk (restaurants, etc.). Lousy cable TV. Great service. Great looking lounge/restaurant in the lobby.

The pool area on the 5th floor is awesome in the evening. Very relaxing. Valet parking for $13 a day makes this a great place to stay if you have a car. 3 blocks from Chinatown (excellent food for very little money). Large Woolworth's grocery store 1.5 blocks away. Queen Street Mall (pedestrian shopping area) 3-4 blocks away with open-air dining, movie theater, large casino, about a dozen food courts, etc.

The only hotel that has a better location in DT Brisbane is the Hilton -- in the center of Queen Street Market.

[email protected] if you have questions.

Does anyone have an e-mail for the BNE Marriott?

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has an e-mail address for the BNE property. Can't seem to find one on the Marriott site. Google suggested [email protected] but that bounced back :(

TIA

Just stayed here for four nights (on points) and found it to be a pleasant experience overall. I also stayed at the Conrad Treasury and the Hiton Brisbane, and while the Conrad had the best room, the service was best at the Marriott by far.

For example, the second night of my stay was my friend's birthday, and they allowed a modest paid upgrade to a suite for that one night, then let me bump back to my standard points room. And when a bunch of my friends wanted to come up to the room for a pre-birthday party, the front desk was accommodating. On my last night, they even let me do a late check-out at 3 pm, and brought a free rollaway for another friend who wanted to crash. ^

Both rooms were also clean and had the standard amenities, and the complimentary buffet breakfast (for when I was in the suite) was good. Overall, I'm now a fan of this hotel. ^

Any first hand experience with the Brisbane Marriott?

Every time I go to Brisbane it is fully booked. Can anyone report on the hotel and the executive lounge?

honu Oct 22, 2006 2:01 am

I was there about three years ago, so my stay is not exactly recent. No experience with the lounge, but I thought the service was excellent, the room pleasant, no problems at all. The only (minor) drawback is that it's located at one end of the CBD, so it may be a bit far from some points of interest. (The Sheraton had the perfect location, right above the main railway station, but it's no longer a Sheraton unfortunately).
