I just sent a SM asking for a fee waiver. If I cancel the card, do I have 30 days to use my points or was it a year? Also, if i later get the Business card, can I use the same account as my Personal one?

Isn't this just a followup to your other thread?

Had a secure message back-and-forth three times with the agent, who denied me flat-out. I think I might try calling.

Well, starwood stay is not something that's going to happen. When I go to see my parents in Germany, we stay with them and otherwise we dont travel anywhere....
Citi was pretty generous in waving my AA Card's fee after I make 5 purchases on the card. Im wodering if SPG does something close to that.... Not a problem. You don't have to spend a hotel night, you just need activity on your account. That could include spending at least $10 on a meal (or maybe just drinks... not sure) at a hotel in the Starwood program. Here's a good link: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/starw...l#post16834557 (And if you don't need your Starwood points since you rarely travel, I'm willing to take them off your hands for you!) Good luck! |

Thanks everyone!
No, this is not a follow up to my old thread, that one was about my husband's card and it is taken care of (converted that one to a no fee Amex blue). I havent been using it in a few months (probably since march, when I got my Cap1 Venture), but before that we used it almost exclusively.. I will call either today or tomorrow and talk to them and see what happens. I want to keep the card, just maybe ask them to reduce the fee this time. |

Positive data point here! I secure messaged AMEX about the $65 annual fee that showed up on my last statement and asked to have it waived. Here was the response:
Because you are a valued Cardmember. Therefore, as a gesture of respect to your relationship with American Express and our commitment for impeccable customer service, I have credited your Card account in the amount of $65.00. This credit will appear on an upcoming statement. :) |
"You can refresh your account with a stay or a restaurant charge of $10 or more"
It must be $10 or more? Less than $10, such as $1 wouldnt keep it active? |

You will be considered an "Active Member" so long as (a) your Membership has not been cancelled (by you or us), and (b) you have had an Eligible Stay at a Participating Property within the previous 12 months, or (c) you have earned Starpoints by using a Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card during the previous 12 months. Starpoints resulting from transfers or earnings from Program affiliates do not count toward active status. |

There is an "or" between (b) and (c). Provided the account activity referenced by jerry305 is on your SPG AMEX, you would not have to make any stays if there was activity on the credit card account the previous 12 months.
