Doesn't SPG have a MasterCard too? If I remember correctly, that does NOT have an annual fee tied to it. I'm also in the same boat with an upcoming SPG Amex annual fee, and I think I'm going to jump ship before it happens.

There used to be a Canadian Master Card, but that's gone and I've never heard of an SPG Master Card in the U.S. or anywhere else.

Back in the days of Sheraton Club International there was a MC in the US.

I called about a month ago. I simply ask if they can do any goodwill point credit for me because I been a long (13 years) AMEX customer and I feel that the raise of the anual fee by $20 should somehow be aknowledged. I never demand points, just try to be nice and ask politely. I received 3,000 points this time.

I do this for Hilton as well, I usually get 5,000 points per year.

I actually do this with almost all of my cards, about once a year and I'd say all AMEX branded cards give you additional points/miles and most Chase cards do that as well. It never hurts to try, and usually it takes 3-4 minutes of phone time.

Thanks or all the datapoints, guys. I guess I'll try this as well. I was planning on canceling my SPG AMEX when my annual fee comes due, but I'll see if I can get a retention bonus. I tried it with a DL Amex card and had no luck. I decided to keep the card anyway--but will try with that one again next year.

Anyone have any success with retention bonuses on the SPG card? I put $30K through it in the last year and all they were willing to offer was 1K in points to keep me. This seems like junk.

Anyone have any thoughts or different experiences with them?

If only my CC's would give me bonuses for spending big...and BTW I don't spend big on cards so I can try to hold them hostage for a "retention" bonus. Maybe move to a card that has benefits for hitting a spending tier.

That's more than they offered me. I was offered $30 credit, after I spent $75k in the preceding year.

Also, I think there is a thread on this already... I believe the max anyone has gotten was 3k points.

Just yesterday, someone reported 5,000 points.

Still more than I got. I also put in 30K+ on it and was shot down on any possible retention bonus. :(

I wonder if the people getting retention bonuses are those who used it once for thier 30k points, and then never used it again.

I received 5k and have spent 6 figures annually since '05. Call and get another retention specialist. 2nd was a charm for me.

called up to "enquire" and was offered 7,500 pts which i accepted. IIRC some people here have received more but i didn't feel like pushing it.
