With the way I was dressed, I was simply out of place. But no one at any point told me or asked me to move on or stay away from any part of this lobby.

my few points...
The staff informed me (in thai) that the work climate produced by the top expat management is pretty bad and lots of good local staff left because of this. Apparently they are more busy with drinking and partying themselves in the hotel then fixing the service issues.
I have during several visits to either social events or to the restaurant encounter some very friendly and some very unfriendly expat managers. I had a similar encounter as a member here in a previous report when i was asked by a British (by the accent) Gentleman to move from a certain area where there was fashion show. I wasnt gate crashing or anything but there was no sign, robes etc and the way I was spoken to was not what you would expect in a 5 star hotel but rather in a pub.
Zuma which I understand is not really part of the St Regis is also offering great food at a rather high price tag for Bangkok standards. But still good....

Question about the pool
A quick question. Usually stay at the Sheraton Grande Sukhomvit OR The Oriental as both have great pools w lots of sun (which is where I like to be if not working). Thinking of trying the St Regis for my upcoming trip.
Can anyone tell me if this property has a good / great pool area?

It is a nice space. Not sure I'd say it is great. The pool itself is kind of small and not as interesting as SGS. But the seating area looks comfy.

St. Regis pool is OK but the space at the FS is much larger.

St. Regis Bangkok [Master Thread]
Just a quick update. I stayed again at the St. Regis BKK last night. This is my fifth time staying there and I have been pretty vocal on here about the lack of suite upgrades, when they are showing as available. In my last 4 stays I hadn't been upgraded to a suite once even though there were plenty available, and getting all sorts of bizarre excuses.
When I checked in last night I didn't even bother asking if a suite upgrade was available, I didn't check the SPG site for suite availability, I was finally convinced that it would never happen and I should just get over it and enjoy my stay, and I have always enjoyed my stay in the past once the check-in annoyances are out of the way.
At check-in they handed me my key, no mention of an upgrade, and I was off to my room, and.... my room was a Metropolitan Suite!!
So, as soon as I stopped caring I got the upgrade I had tried in vain to get before. It made what was already another great stay just a bit sweeter.
