Just had a very good 2 night stay here. I'm usually a Marriott user, but thought I'd throw some points away on this, and try a new brand.
I really enjoyed it. These modern boutique-y type hotels are not usually to my taste, but it was a fun stay. As a platinum, was upgraded to the Fantastic Suite, which was pretty nice. A few random points:
- The room was a great size, and I enjoyed the extra touches: a decent sized bath, a very large lounge, good random amenities, like the white noise machine! I like random touches like that
- The staff were very friendly, and eager to please
- The view of Taipei 101 was superb
- The pool was awesome, very chilled area, and extremely comfortable. I can imagine it getting busy in the Summer though
- Breakfast buffet was large and very varied. The quality wasn't amazing, but more than good enough. They had noodle bar, omelette station, loads of cold meats, a fresh juice bar, even a carvery!
- The concierge was very friendly, and on the whole helpful, but could be improved somewhat (asked for a 'local' breakfast close by, and both recommendations were 10 mins away by taxi)
Overall happy with this stay, and would be happy to return.

This looks like a great hotel but the prices seem to be getting a little bit ridiculous now. I'm looking at dates in October and trying to decide whether to book an extra day in Taipei or go back to Hong Kong a day earlier - the price for this hotel is about the same as the Ritz-Carlton in Hong Kong for that night (about Ł375/$500) and well above the W in Hong Kong. That night seems towards the more expensive end but same pattern seems to apply for a lot of October. Who is paying these prices to stay in Taipei?

If you come around end of October, it's probably the Taipei LGBT Pride week that's taking so many rooms.
I have the same issue in Sydney the week of Oct. 22nd with ~7,000 people attending the SWIFT/SIBOS conference. Even cheap hotels skyrockets to 5-stars usual pricing levels.

Although Taipei is supposedly the gay mecca in East Asia and gay people have higher disposable income, I would think trade shows have bigger influence on the pricing than Pride.
Taipei World Trade Center is a good resource. Nangang Exhibition Center is closer to the Nangang Courtyard but Hall 1 and Hall 3 are closer to the W. The big shows are spread between the two.

Does anyone know the email for the concierge team at W Taipei?
I would like to talk to the hotel prior to my stay in regards to a special occasion.
I am guessing either
[email protected] or [email protected]
Anyone had prior communication to the hotel that can help me out?

My existing reservations now say this as well. What the heck is up with Marriott letting hotels alter reservation cancellation policies as they please?

Long time lurker, new poster. Used to be SPG Plat but dropped it a few years ago (probably a good thing given all the complaints about the merger - makes me a bit sad as I liked SPG).
I recently completed my first stay at the W Taipei and I very much liked the property. As Hyatt LTG I have typically stayed at the Grand Hyatt when needing to be in Xinyi but after a horrid experience there, I decided to try something new. I booked the Marvelous Suite via FHR. I have Gold status via the AMEX Platinum and I also received Gold benefits.

Good:
- great location in Xinyi
- direct access to MRT Taipei City Hall station via adjacent Hankyu department store - weather was nice during my stay but this would be amazing in the summer
- welcome amenity including handwritten note, sparkling water, and snacks
- staff generally very friendly and English ability seemed quite good
- very responsive concierge (usually responded to e-mails within hours)
- 6 water bottles provided and refreshed daily
- good Gold benefits (Woobar happy hour complimentary drinks, Fiji water bottles in room)
- solid buffet breakfast spread (but not great by Taipei standards - could definitely use more variety), also very crowded
- gigantic room service menu, the entirety of which is available even late night
- granted 4pm late checkout
- long waits at elevator during peak times, compounded by dual elevator system (lobby is on 6th floor)
- always difficult to get table at woobar - understand it is a popular venue, but would be nice to get some better treatment for hotel guests
- as mentioned above, breakfast was very crowded - often only communal seating available
- very high laundry prices - $11 just to wash a t-shirt, pressing was very expensive too

Yes, meant the 10th floor, not 6th. "Long wait" is subjective, but many times I had to wait for another elevator to arrive as the first was too full. The delays are exacerbated by the elevator from ground floor to lobby also stopping at the event floors on 8 and 9.
