Beach Information

Please note that the area in front of the resort is a public beach. There is a strong current and we discourage guests from swimming in the ocean as there are no lifeguards on duty. Should you choose to swim in the ocean, you do so at your own risk. Please contact the resort for further information.

Seclusion Day Information: March 9, 2016

Nyepi is an important religious event in Bali and marks the beginning of the New Year in the Balinese Hindu calendar. In 2016, Nyepi falls on March 9. On Nyepi Day, from 6am to 6am the following day, all daily activities throughout Bali will stop. Shops and offices will be closed and people are not allowed to go out into the streets, engage in entertainment activities, turn on lights or make noise which may disturb others. Ngurah Rai International Airport will be closed for Nyepi Day. Neither departures nor arrivals are permitted on March 9, 2016.

There will be changes in hours of operation for our venues. There will be very little outside lighting during the night and there will be no transportation services to and from the resort. WET® (pool) is available for your enjoyment until 4pm; however, we request that you do not use the beach area or swim in the sea on Nyepi Day.

In addition, as per a new regulation of the Government of Bali, all television providers, including cable channels, will not broadcast during Nyepi Day. A collection of books is available at WIRED, and DVD movies and some table games are available upon request at Whatever/Whenever®. Starfish Bloo & Woobar will be closed on March 9, 2016; however, our fabulous In-Retreat Dining is open 24 hours, and FIRE is open until 10pm.

Please contact the resort directly for further information.

[QUOTE=kippax;16342480]Those damned cobbled walkways to the villa! They really are treacherous at night especially in high heels (that's my wife not me).
QUOTE]

These walkways are really awful. I'm sure enough people will trip and hurt themselves that they'll have to change them before long. They must have received a good deal with all the rocks they used between the villas and the approach to the entrance.

As far as I know, not hotel chain guarantees updates unless you are a royal ambassador with intercontinental. I have Starwood Gold, Hilton Diamond and IC RA...RA is by far the best program to be a member of. Not only upgrades, but double upgrades at the time of booking, free mini bar and an overall VIP experience. At Hilton or Starwood, you might get a suite, but they really dont offer the recognition that you receive as an RA

Guys, I have one free resort night under the current promo and am going to use it here There is also an offer for $399 for the 1 bedroom villa which I think I'll take just to check it out.

Since I know they do not upgrade PLTs to villas, to increase my unlikely chance of being in a villa for the reward night, should I:-

Book the villa on Night 1, and then the free night on night 2 , or
Book the free night on Night 1 and then the villa on Night 2?

Either way I am prepared to pack my bags and move, but a little bit of sweet talking might just make make me keep my villa (and also if the villa will be free, you might as well let me stay there)

So far this sounds to me like a

“Great property overall but with poor platinum benefits”

To me, being a great property and having great plat recognition are two very different things.

We stayed here last month, also taking advantage of the $299 rate for a 1BR Villa.

I would echo what many of the others have said, very nice place and the physical plant is excellent. I totally agree the comments about the walkways to the villas, which are outright dangerous at night.

Even though we had a fab stay and even allowing for it being early days some of the service left a bit to be desired and they were very slow on a number of occassions. Having to call three and four times to chase things up is not good neither is having to call numerous times before someone answers the phone.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Villa although I do like ocean views and as the villa will cost a lot more next time I would probably go in the main building. I think they should also offer something for Plats as at the moment you get nothing.

Is W too good for Platinum members?

Why would that Starwood chain be so perks stingy with plats?

I enjoy the creativity, the design (sometimes) but do not like the (sometimes) pretentious attitude. Prices are often too high for what is offered (the "VILLAS' without a single separate room!) and the descriptions usually give the impression that a much better product is offered.
And why, as Plats, should we get less (that at other Starwood hotels), when we pay more?

I am contemplating between this property and the Laguna Resort & Spa (Luxury Collection). Any thoughts from your side guys?

It's only a 3 day stay but something in these reviews about the W doesnt seem to rock me. Especially after I had 2 very shaky W stays this year already to say the least.

Thanks & Cheers,
S

It really depends on your trade off. Nusa Dua is nice but it is cut off from the rest of Bali and some argue, it is not really Bali. If you have been to Bali many times and do not intend to travel around the island to Ubud, Kintamani and the rest, the Laguna is very consistent in terms of service and well run. They treat their platinum very well and I have had many upgrades at this property. If however you have never been to Bali and you intend to visit a bit, Seminyak is a better location. It is closer to Ubud, Tanah Lot and important for most people, a lot closer to many of the nicer restaurants, Sarong is just accross the street, Metis 5 mins bicycle ride away, Lucciola down the road etc... I have nothing to complain about the W but it is true that the level of service can be a bit uneven as the property has not fully opened yet (official opening in August). I am going back to Bali in October with some Bali virgins and we will be going to the W (I am making the decision). The location overides any other concerns. Even if service is yet to be on par with the rate demanded, it is trying very hard.

Thanks for the insight!

Well it seems that as a Platinum I would have a better overall experience at the Laguna as at the W there is really not that much to expect.

I already collected 4 SPG Free Nights which I would probably use. Then again, the Laguna has rates that are ~200 USD.

Choices...

I'm in the exact same boat. I'm going for a honeymoon in November and have earned 4 FRNs. I have a week in Bali and will spend three nights at the STR and then four (free) at the W. Though I'd prefer the "treatments" of the Laguna, I think the overall allure of location, cost - ZERO - and other factors leave me leaning towards the W.

Thankfully I can always switch the nights over if I read something here that really makes me change my mind, but as of now... I'm set.

For some reason Bali seems a little cheap as per the rates to burn my FFN when other destinations like the Seychelles would be a possibility as well. Then again I'm a bit bored from the Hyatt's and would love to try something different.

You should seriously consider St Regis with points as an alternative. It's absolutely amazing. They pick you up in a luxury car and the airport and rates are inclusive of buffet breakfast (sashimi anyone?). Save the nights for Hawaii or California... Just my 2 cents. After reading all the above reviews, and seeing the pictures, I would be hard-pressed to make W Seminyak a destination. Well, it's OK for a stay for Bali, if you want to enjoy the sight-seeing, shopping, and massages, but unlike St Regis, it does not seem to be in the same category or a destination on it's own. Especially, with lackluster beaches that Bali has.
