Hotel Website: The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, Autograph Collection
Official List of Cosmopolitan Bonvoy Elite Benefits: https://www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com/marriott-bonvoy-at-the-cosmopolitan-of-las-vegas

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, the only charges that qualify for Points are as follows:
- Room rate, room service food and beverage, in-room movies, phone calls and in-room minibar purchases
- Points cannot be earned on any other purchases at hotel outlets or for hotel services

The Cosmopolitan is a "resort," so basically the only elite benny is a possible upgrade. Elites are not exempt from the resort fee

Resort fee is $39+tax effective 01/01/2019. Also as of that date, parking (self & valet) is complimentary for hotel guests.

Cosmopolitan is exempt from providing free wifi to Plats per Marriott's T&Cs, however it is included with the mandatory $39 daily resort fee so there is still no extra charge to any guest for using it.

Platinums receive:

* use of Platinum check-in area (to the left of main desks)

* Platinum arrival gift is $10FB coupon or 1,000 points

* room upgrade (space available) - better luck on mid-week stays than weekend stays. sometimes a 'sandwich' (ie, bribe) to front desk does the trick.

* free tea/coffee 6am - noon in the plat lobby check-in area

* Wicked Spoon: Marriott Rewards Platinums (and PPs) get to use preferred line and get 15% discount when staying at the property. Just show your MR Plat or PP card.
You can book through Virtuoso as well as Amex FHR for complimentary breakfast buffet at Wicked spoon.

Resort fee:

* $39 (+ tax) per day for resort fee, which includes gym access, local + long distance calls, Wifi, pool access. The resort fee is not waived.

Receiving Bonvoy Points for a Stay:

Many have reported needing to follow up to have Marriott Bonvoy points manually posted post stay (they do not typically post automatically.) A tip is to email [email protected] shortly after a stay asking them to manually forward your folio to Marriott Bonvoy for processing.

Hat tip to billycwhatup for this:

* Identity points and MR points can not be earned on the same stay

Other tips

The Terrace Suites are the most common room type and are classified as studio and one bedroom, with options for King, 2 Queens with or without a fountain view. They are essentially the same size, however (10 sq ft difference), but the layouts differ.

The King Studio Suite has a standard bathroom with shower and tub, a living room area with large sitting area and an L shaped sofa and the bed is in a separate area, though not separated.

The King One BR Suite has the same kind of living room area, with the bedroom separated by sliding doors and the bathroom is larger, with a "soaking tub".

If you get a terrace suite of any kind with 2 Queens, the living area will be smaller.

And unless your room type is described as "fountain view", you aren't guaranteed it, though Platinum status will get you upgraded on check in if they have one available.

If you book any of these room types and want to aim higher, I would try a giving the receptionist a 50$ "sandwich", and ask if any wraparounds upgrades would be available. If they say yes, there is a good chance that it will be a wraparound facing south-east or south-west, which for me would be a no go. Taste in view is personal of course, but for me the fountain-Eiffel tower view are so much nicer than the south facing views. Also when you would have the choice between a low level wraparound or high level terrace suite, I would still take the high level terrace suite, because a number of floors on the east tower are blocked by the big Bellagio sign. (see youtube vids).

If you really want a high level wraparound then you probably would have to pay, which can sometimes be not that much. If I'm not mistaken I think they offered me a wraparound at 150$ per night more, but we originally booked a 1 bedroom terrace room without view.

Last tip : If you would get the choice of wraparound I would definitely take a high floor east tower one, facing north-east. That would give you bellagio fountain + eiffel tower view, but also a good portion of the south strip.

I travel to Cosmopolitan about 5x a year, but ONLY through April - September and every year I have just barely achieved gold status through hotel spend (no gambling). I have Gold Status for this year ending April 2020 and due to more visits than usual, I have locked in for gold through April 2021. For the first (and most likely only time), I have the ability to achieve Platinum on my upcoming trip with just 800$ in hotel spend, which is essentially guaranteed with Spa visits and restaurant spend. This will be my last trip until April 2020 and I may go less next year due to work.

Does it make more sense for me to achieve Platinum Status or or remain Gold? The reason I hesitate is because the tier bump to Platinum will take away my guaranteed gold status through April 2021. According to the rep, I would achieve Platinum status on August 25th 2019 through August 25th 2020, but then would need to spend an additional 4k from August 25th 2019-August 25 2020 to keep gold, when currently I already have gold locked in. Unless you're saying you'll have planned visits already

Looking for some expert advice from the flyertalk members. What would you do?
It would depend on your trips next year between April-August 2020 and if the perks are worth it to you and only you. With Plat you get the extra $250 resort credit airport transportation, which is a nice addition. But Gold has most of the perks as Plat already, besides the ones I mentioned. Oh, "room upgrades" and line cutting I guess at Identity desk since they don't allow cutting for mid tiers. Since you don't gamble and earn the tiers via spend, what perks do you value with Gold vs Plat?

If you make Plat and have a trip in mind prior to expiration to use the $250 resort credit and airport transportation, then go for it. If not, why do it since you will lose status continuity. Since, 2020-2021 is still ways ahead, it's probably hard to know and tell. If it was me, I'd go for it since you're not really chasing it and will earn it with your next trip anyways. The $250 resort credit is a nice "reimbursement" for your spend.

Also, I believe you should use up the Gold 2 free nights prior to making Plat, cause I recall you lose it once you make Plat. But once you make Plat, you also have 2 free nights to use again with Plat tier.

Thank you easy_money! Dgreen - you are correct. My question is if i should be going form Gold to Platinum, gaining 2 free nights but losing guaranteed gold for until April 2021

Virtually everyone in this thread collects Bonvoy (Marriott) points for stays at the Cosmopolitan and not Identity points.

I'd suggest posting your question in a TripAdvisor Las Vegas forum to get advice from more folks. Welcome to FlyerTalk, by the way.

There are a few straggler threads on the Identity Points program over in https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/gami...-programs-651/

I'm planning to book 2 paid nights at the COSMO, but the hefty $39 destination fee per night really takes a punch in the gut, since I don't find any of the listed "benefits" useful for our stay.
Has anyone asked and successfully got these fees waived upon check in/out before?

I know I'm sounding a little cheap, but $78 for 2 nights is almost the cost of another night hotel stay away from the strip and it just doesn't make any economical sense to me.

I doubt it, everyone on the strip charges resort fees. Given how popular the Cosmo is, they have no reason to waive them.

In all seriousness, and with all due respect, are all decisions in life made by "economical sense?" Does it make any economic sense to gamble? Or if it does why go to Vegas to do it rather than the local Indian casino? What about having kids - they don't make much economic sense do they? The list goes on. It's called life. Enjoy it and don't even think twice about a $39 fee as that's just part of the cost of staying at a decent hotel on the strip. Live life!

Consider it a part of the room/night price. The fees are all BS, but the hotels are busy and they've got no reason to drop them.

Yup, I just bit the bullet and booked it via FHR. What added more insult to the obnoxious fee was that they tax you on top of the fee!
So essentially, I'm paying more taxes for fees and services I even use!

Are Virtuoso / FHR rates eligible for Marriott earnings at the Cosmopolitan? I am having trouble getting my reservation at the Cosmopolitan to show up in my "upcoming stays"?

I originally booked a stay via FHR and was told (by the Bonvoy telephone agent) that the AmEx booked the stay with Expedia, so I would not receive elite recognition nor elite night credit. I cancelled that reservation and re-booked with a Virtuoso agent, and that reservation is also not showing up in my Marriott app (I have not called Marriott yet to try to get the reservation added). I have a separate reservation booked by a Virtuoso agent that showed up in upcoming stays instantly.

Any recent experiences with either FHR / Virtuoso at this property or advice on next steps?

UPDATE: Much ado about nothing, double checked that the agent added the Bonvoy number to the Virtuoso reservation and it has appeared in my upcoming reservations.

Fwiw, they run their own internal program called Identity that earns on every other type of property spend. The benefits to this aren't bad. The bottom tier category for example provides for a comped night after $800 spending, which isn't hard to do.
Except those free nights have become extremely hard to use the last couple of years. Forget Saturday night stays, and a lot of Fridays. I had a tough time using both of my Platinum nights last year....I think I had to burn them on Thursday night arrivals.

Other than that, Identity isn’t bad. The 5% back on spend is nice, which is really more like 5.4% when you redeem for food AT THE RESTAURANT, as the comped portion is non-taxable. If you wait until checkout to remove food charges from your bill you don’t get that extra savings.

hope to get some help with a few casino ID plat and Bonvoy benefit questions:

1) interested in ID plat. already a starriott titanium, but what are the restrictions for the complimentary room nights per year? im trying to find the T&C on that. ive read its difficult to use like you said. also, what exactly are the 2 complimentary companion room nights per year? BOGO rooms?

2) how does the Wicked Spoon Buffet 15% discount work when staying and not staying at the property? is the discount taken off at the register? and how do they check your bonvoy status? i dont think starriott sends out member cards anymore. show them my phone app?

3) how does the 2-for-1 Wicked Spoon buffet per day work? i find this benefit pretty ridiculous if taken at face value. do you just show your ID status and its BOGO everyday? i assume you cant combine that with the bonvoy 15% discount.

4) is the $250 resort credit for any spend on property and comped off the folio when checking out? theres got to be some strict T&C on that.

5) i assume the airport transportation is only when staying at the property and booked via host? or maybe theres a dedicated limo number to call for pickup?

thank you so much!

I don't bother booking thru bonvOY when staying at the Cosmo. The benefits that used to be outstanding are now very watered down.

Chase LHRC gets two daily breakfast buffets at Wicked Spoon along with room upgrade and some other bennies.

As an Identity Gold member (but not Bonvoy Platinum), I can answer some of these.

1. For the free nights, there aren’t T&C for exactly what qualifies. You have to call and ask for specific dates. I’ve had reasonable success when rates are on the lower end (low priced weekends, weekdays). The more flexible you are, the more useful the benefit. The companion nights get a free room when you already have a room booked for that night. You cannot use them for yourself. Availability is similar to the free nights. In both cases, the free room is usually a choose of City Room or Terrace Studio (with the option to pay for an upgrade).

3. For 2-for-1 Wicked Spoon, you go to the Identity desk on the casino floor. They will verify the benefit and give you a coupon. You take that coupon to the buffet register.

1) FWIW, previously ID Plat for 2 years and now Gold, all through gaming. IME, I never had a hard time using the 2 free Plat nights, besides the usually blackouts like July 4th, LDW, NYE, etc. The only time I really had an issue was being within the 14 day booking window for the offer. I just contacted my host and she was able to override it. From then on, I just used my host to book it and never had an issue.

The companion room nights are for like it says, a companion. To use those nights, it has to be under someone else's name in order to use it. If you use your 2 plat nights, and then have a friend/family member use the 2 companion nights, depending on the room type, you can combine the 2 reservations into 4 nights if needed. YMMV based on room type and availability obviously.

2) Don't need to be staying on property to use the discount. That goes with most if not all of the other casino/hotel player programs on the strip.

3) Like it says, can use it everyday if you want. Not sure about the Bonvoy discount. If I recall correctly, I think the T&Cs for the BOGO buffet offer states something along the lines of not being able to be combined with other offers or discounts. It's been a while since I looked at it so I may be wrong.

4) The $250 resort credit can be used pretty much anything on property with few exceptions. Cannot be applied towards tips, retail shops, and 1 or 2 of the restaurants. Should always check with Identity Desk to confirm. I don't drink, so I can't comment on the credit apply towards alcohol. My guess would be no as it's the case for MLIFE and CET with the resort credits too. You just charge to the room and it'll go against your folio. Can check the usage on your TV to ensure everything is correct.

5) You don't need to contact a host for the limo transportation. Just call VIP services. And yes, it's for when you're staying on property only. Unless you're a whale then that's a different story. I forgot the VIP services number, I usually just book it through my host. Can just call Identity for it.

For the ones that are saying it's difficult to use the free Plat nights, remember, just like any hotel program, with reward/free nights, there's usually a certain amount that's allotted for it. The earlier you use it, the better chances of you scoring the days you want. Being flexible helps too. Especially for a casino, if the Plat status/nights are earned via spend vice gaming, my guess is that it would make it a bit harder than a Plat that earned it via gaming. I haven't heard Plats that earned it through gaming having a difficult time using it. My .02.

For the Plats that earned it through gaming, as an FYI, according to a few hosts I talk to, the Plat/Gold/Sterling free tier nights, "supposedly" don't count against you or ding your ADT/Theo and affect your gaming offers. So there's no expectations from a host, if you have one, to put in gaming play/hours. IME, it seems true. I usually book the free tier nights during the back end of a trip where I just want to relax and not have to worry about putting in the hours to make my host happy, and haven't heard or seen it affect my offers in any way.
