Best Marriott Property in KC?

Any recommendations on the best Marriott property in the Kansas City area?

There is not a lot to choose from in Kansas City. I am a frequent guest at both the Marriott at the Airport and the Marriott Country Club Plaza. If you are staying downtown the Country Club Plaza is a great choice. Shopping, restaurants and great walks are all within walking distance.

My favorite is the Country Club Plaza followed by the Overland Park Marriott might not be a option for you. The Residence Union hill is also a very nice property.

Agree with the recommendation, but if the OP stays downtown, that's a different Marriott - simply known as Kansas City Marriott Downtown (I think). The CC Plaza is about five miles south of downtown.

Both of these Marriotts are fine - very "brand standard" properties. The downtown Marriott is walking distance to the Power & Light district - lots of bars and restaurants but little shopping. The CC Plaza Marriott is walking distance to tons of shopping, two excellent art museums, and quite a few bars and restaurants.

The Overland Park Marriott is about a half-hour south of downtown Kansas City. It's good if you have business out that way but not really useful if you want to see Kansas City.

The airport Marriott is actually quite good as airport hotels go. Certainly KC's best airport hotel and better than airport hotels in many cities. MCI is out in the middle of rural Platte County so not much in the way of nearby entertainment. You'd be having dinner at the lobby bar.

Two RI's are well-located: the aforementioned Union Hill and another one near the Plaza.

Go for the Country Club Plaza or Downtown if you have a choice...

I've stayed twice at the Marriott Downtown. A great property where I got upgraded each stay (once into the Harry S Truman Suite w/grand piano). Be sure to put in a request at the "Virtual Concierge" when it is sent.

That's a great suite. ^ Probably the best one I've ever stayed in in the Marriott system. Only drawback is that it makes my house feel small.

My vote is definitely for the one at Country Club Plaza. The area is great, the hotel's shuttle drove us down the hill to the plaza since it's a short hike. A lot of great mid-to-high end shopping stores and fabulous restaurants (plug for Fogo de Chao^). The one in the P&L district was just boring to me.

I've stayed at most of them (except overland park).

1) Country Club Plaza
2) Downtown
3) Airport

As others have said the airport is way out, so the primary consideration needs to be where you are needing to be in the city.

+1. Country club is a great Marriott property. Check out the bar across the street and down the hill a bit, it's a nice place to grab a bite and drink.

If you stay at the airport, the Zona Rosa complex is only about a ten minute drive south on I-29. There are several good restaurants and a wide range of retail. We often enjoy lunch or dinner at Swagat's, an excellent Indian restaurant.

"The Kansas City Marriott Country Club Plaza hotel, at 4445 Main St., has begun a contemporary remodeling of its guest rooms, lobby, meeting rooms and restaurant, plus some exterior redesign. General manager Brett Ellison said work is being phased in to minimize guest disruptions."

Since this thread began, the Raphael has joined as an Autograph Collection hotel. It's on the south side of the Plaza...still walking distance to everything on the Plaza and walking distance to the "main" Plaza Marriott. One might even prefer the Raphael location as there's no hill to walk up/down like there is with the Marriott.

Last time I stayed there was 10 years ago. Older boutique hotel style...I remember we had a very long thin room and I've heard there are numerous odd-shaped rooms here. But could be a cool alternative for someone who wants a bit of a non-Marriott experience without sacrificing points/nights.

The lobby bar often had live jazz/blues...not sure if they still do that.

I guess this is why rates there are thru the roof. Up until Jan, my rate was $146/nt. Now I'm quoted $186-$246/nt. I just go to the Plaza Courtyard or Hilton President downtown.

What happened to the RC that was right next to Country Club Plaza? IME it wasn't a good RC but it was a cheap RC.
