Mixed experience

Just a quick report on a 3 night stay, few weeks ago at St Regis Osaka

A Bad check in did ruin a bit the experience - We had booked 2 twin rooms, with a special (simple) request to have both room on same floor -
As a plat, we were offered rooms at 24th floor and we were proposed to check in directly in the room - So far so good - except that were were offered a king and a twin room...
We said we really needed 2 twin rooms..
The nice lady went away to 12th floor reception and came back 20 minutes later, saying that the hotel was full, that the were no available twin rooms, and that they basically allocated me a king because I stated in my booking that, while i did book a twin room, I only indicated that this was a booking for one person (one adult) and that was the reason i was attributed a king room...
I had unfortunalety printed my spg confirmation email that was clearly stating in white and black that the room was booked for one adult and one child... At that time, i became quite upset and just asked that the hotel they should respect the room type i did booked. For my past 15 or 20 stays on sheratons, le meridien and other spg brands, this was the first time I remember arguing for such a basic request - Clearly the last thing you expect when visiting a St Regis

She disappeared again for a good 30 minutes and went back to the room : they did manage to free up another twin room on that floor, but this was a smoking room
We went through the room, clearly a smoking one, but decided to take it as we had a long trip and needed to settled down. Nice Lady said that this will then come back as the keys for the room had to be prepared.
In the mean time, we all settled down in the other twin room - After one hour or so, no key - She just forgot to bring us the keys and I went to the reception to have the key prepared by one of her collegue so we could access the 2nd room...

2 quick other comments on the rooms:
For the record, even on the 24th, the room were quite noisy as they gave on the south side, with a direct view on highway 16. Room oriented on the north or east should be more quieter.
Floor 24 is also mixing smoking and non smoking rooms, so basically you get strong smoke smells when walking to your non smoking rooms - not very pleasant..

Of course, i am highlighting here the dark side of the stay while it was also a great stay by many other aspects : great breakfast at La Veduta & lunch/diner at La Rue d'Or, the french restaurant - Great service (beyond our booking issue) etc

I was on the 26th floor and had no complaints. The hotel even managed to track down a piece of luggage I stupidly forgot on the train. I wish that my Platinum thank you cards had arrived so I could have handed one out. What a great property.

I fully agree that this is a great property -You fully take benefits that the hotel is just 3 year old or so and was well designed.
Service was top notch, except for that room issue....

Any info on suite upgrades for Platinum? using SNA and without SNA? So, Platinum benefit includes breakfast, 3,000 Yen per night minibar credit, free internet? How about late checkout?

Thanks

I definitely didn't get a suite, but the room was great. Late checkout shouldn't be an issue.

Regarding upgrades, it's rather strange. Prior to a Nov Japan trip I asked all the potential hotels I would be booking what their upgrade policy for Plats was. Every single one replied stating an upgrade only to a club-type room, no suites.

Yet every single one only listed the first-tier suite for SNAs.

Well, given fair warning, I decided to use SNAs for the whole trip, and they were all granted, all at 5 days out. Including StR Osaka.

I have no idea if I would have gotten an upgrade at check-in to a suite, but from the anecdotal evidence on FT, no

PS: Benefits as you have stated, including late checkout.

St Regis Osaka, Japan [Master Thread]

I just stayed here and was upgraded to an executive suite... satsuki suite I think it was called. I did use an SNA which did confirm into a junior suite. the satsuki suite was definately one of the nicer Spg suites I've been upgraded to. big thumbs up for this property!

Exec suites seem to be their lowest tier suites, but they still have names. I think we got the same one :P

Their higher end suites are the " Yuri (Lily), Hanashobu (Iris), and Fuji (Wisteria)". I had hoped to get a further upgrade with the SNA but no luck.

No, their grand deluxe suite is their lowest tier suite. Then goes to those speciality suites which you listed then the two executive suites then the penthouse suite. That's what the FA told me and it seemed to correlate with what their website shows.

You are of course, correct.

So can I clarify, did your SNA clear into a Grand Deluxe, and then did you get a further upgrade into an Exec? With this sort of living room?

It would be nice to know that they actually do upgrade beyond the basic SNA tier, like many other hotels. Because if you email them, they say their basic Plat upgrade is only to a club-level room, not even a Grand Deluxe suite.

Yes that was my upgrade. I used a SNA to upgrade to the grand deluxe suite which was confirmed. I attempted to check in early but they told me it wasnt ready (this was around 12PM). They said they would check me into a smaller room and then move me when my suite was available (grand deluxe suite). I was fine with that but then they told me that I had to check-in on the 16th? floor (I forget the exact number). So I was personally escorted up there. I went to check-in with the desk and then she said they had a better suite for me to receive and it would be available immediately. Then she described the suite sizes which I would guess she was trying to ensure I understood I was indeed getting a bigger sized room than the one the SNA granted me. She ran down the platinum benefits which seem in line with what everyone else has mentioned. Since my checkout time was early on my day of departure (6:00 AM), she said I could order room service bfast to be delivered prior or opt for a boxed bfast. I chose the former. Awesome stay for an awesome rate (~175 USD including taxes/night).

In terms of the room, it had 1.5BA and seperate shower from a two person soaking tub. Floor to ceiling windows with an AMAZING view. Two 50+" flatscreens. A powder area near a walk-in-closet. Everything was very new and I had a very pleasant stay. Almost as good as kobe beef....

Hope this helps...
