With the loss of Khao Lak and Krabi, southern Thailand is becoming less attractive. :/

Well, coupled with the deterioration of the villas, which you can see, we decided that the we would not return.

Will try the Hyatt on our next visit. At least they have a decent club lounge.

To be fair: The unlimited premium cocktails were always an absurdly good deal. No other property I have visited has ever had such a policy.

Up until ~ 8 years ago the SGS in Bangkok for Platinum hour offered
unlimited Veuve Clicquot champagne (orange label).

Only unlimited for the duration of the 'happy hour' though. :)

If the Prego Deck Platinum cocktails have indeed been stopped, that would be such a shame. These were the one standout fond memory of my last stay there. If I was back in the area, I would be staying there there again. Without this benefit, given the other downsides of the property, I won't bother.

Stayed at the Indulge Suite and it definitive has a nice view but I agree, the quality of the buildings are very poor.

LM & Westin are same 1 drink policy but if you travel alone 2 vouchers is better than LM (in number but poorer on quality).
Unlimit drink in SPG phuket is The Naka Island.

We will be staying there as non-status guests for 4 nights at the end of November. We've stayed there 2 years ago for a couple of nights, but I don't remember a few things and I was wondering if you could help us with a couple of questions:

1) Can someone comment on the relative value of arranging the Camry through the hotel or getting a taxi on arrival? 1300 THB sounds a bit steep, are the hotel surcharges added on top of this?
2) Has anyone done an excursion to Phi Phi Islands starting from the hotel? Could you please comment on the experience and the cost?

Thanks!

The cost was the same to get to the LM Phuket (same distance, different part of the island) and the meet and greet service was impeccable (I have no reason to suspect that you'll experience a different level of service from the Westin). No extra cost was added to the 1300THB (it's clearly added to your room bill), but, if you still think that the cost is excessive (which, frankly, it is even by western standards) you might want to give Uber a go. On the way back to the airport, I Uber-ed it and ended up paying 800THB. A considerable saving.

We are here right now. A taxi was easy from the airport and we paid $800 THB upon arrival at the hotel. You exit the airport and there is a taxi stand - you let them know where you want to go and they will indicate which driver to follow. Easy. We didn't bother with the taxi places inside the airport - some of them want you to go to a timeshare presentation and will offer a free taxi ride. No thanks.

We are doing the Phi Phi Islands tour tomorrow (weather permitting) and it's a full day thing going to different islands on a high speed boat, transport from hotel, lunch and snacks included, for $3300 THB - the desk that handles this is in the lobby of the hotel, open all day. They use a company called Andaman Leisure Phuket. We tried to book a couple of other companies popular on tripadvisor but they were fully booked (and cost more because they take a limited amount of people). You pay for this at checkout and can cancel if the weather is bad the morning of the tour.

Hope this helps!

Platinum breakfast is actually pretty good right now.

Yes it doesn't make sense. The Asian chef makes soup noodles. The fried noodles were in a container already prepared. Sadly, it was soggy wet slop. The fruits were at the back of the restaurant. In total they had three trays one of green grapes, one of purple grapes and one plate of papaya. We arrived at 7am well into breakfast. The saddest part of all is when I complained about this to the front desk person, they completely ignored me. I said it three times and nothing. It was like talking to a tree.

It's unfortunate that you had a bad experience with the breakfast. I'm here at the Westin Siray Bay right now, and they had 2 buffets going - one upstairs (on the same level as the lobby - this one didn't look as good) and one downstairs just below in "Eest" Restaurant - this is the one we went to and the food was fresh, well prepared and delicious. Lots of fresh fruit and exotic fruit at that. Made to order omelettes, dim sum, pad thai, etc. They must have heard you!

Just left the property today...

...as stated b'fast is very good and they will even go upstairs and make you noodle soup or get something they offer at that b'fast gratis.
Had a huge suite but wanted one with a pool, had to wait a few days as the hotel was full but hotel accommadated.
Not sure at 7000 pts/night how anyone complains about the wear on the property?
Great staff a generous pours on the drink certs plus a complete free for all at the managers event.
We loved it other than the remoteness.

Thanks rocksurf (and George Kyriakos above). I'd be very interested to hear about your Phi Phi trip - hopefully you get good weather!

When we were there 18 months or so ago we took 2 speedboat tours with different companies. One we organized ourselves before travelling. This was of Phang Nga Bay with Phuket Sail Tours (http://www.phuketsailtours.com/tour_phang_nga.html). The other was to the Phi Phi Islands through the hotel tour desk(http://luxuryvacation-phuket.com/contactus.php) .

I cannot recall the prices but IIRC both companies offer both tours.
Our favourite TBH was Phang Nga Bay by far. The floating village was really interesting and the youtube video he encourages you to watch before going ( about the kids soccer team) really put things in perspective. Phuket Sail Tours is run by an Aussie, who, IMO , runs a tight and professional operation. Their boats are at Ao Po, which is a longer drive but nearer to the Bay when you hit the water. At all of the locations their boat was one of the first and it was less crowded.

The tour to the Phi Phi Islands was a mixed bag. The Marina was a lot nearer so there was less driving at the beginning. They stopped for snorkelling on the way and that was good. The rest of the tour was more disappointing. Maya Beach ( from the film the Beach) was as crowded as Waikiki Beach in high season and the beach itself was a never ending line of boats. The short time there involved constantly stepping over bodies to move anywhere.

Both companies sent a dedicated car to pick us up, as the Westin is not located with other hotels.

Just watched the video again and have linked it here too.

When we stayed several years ago we joined the Day Cruise of this Luxury Yacht M/Y Olympia 76 http://andaman-cruises.com/join-day-cruise.html

If, like us, you can't stand large tour groups or crowds and value luxury I cannot recommend it enough. It's 5,900 THB off peak of 7,700 THB peak and includes pickup from the Westin, lunch and drinks. You can even book a private cabin which we did so that we could relax, but there were only another five guests.

To date it is the best yacht I have been on and incredibly good value for money.

We stayed at Westin Siray Bay in April 2015.
I booked the hotel with for a stay of 7 days paid with Starpoints.
As I was travelling with my wife and 5 year old son who was still learning to swim at that time, I used my SNA's to make sure we would have a pool access suite.
It seemed to be not that easy to get this suite due to the high occupancy of the hotel, but The Westin Director of Rooms, Mrs Ellis Rungkarn was just amazing. No effort was to big in order to satisfy our needs.

Check-in was smooth and we received a discovery suite, which had pool access to a plunge pool.
The suite has two different rooms which is great when you bring kids.
The furniture might receive an upgrade as it felt a bit cold, but apart from this everything about the room was perfect.

About the location, the hotel is at quite a distance from...everything.
We rented a car for the entire week, so we didn't consider that really as a problem. We explored different beaches everyday all around the island.
The beach next to the resort didn't really attract us, it was rocky and the water looked rather muddy.
But this is Pukhet so there are so many beaches to visit, so we didn't really care.

During my stay it was my sons 6th birthday, Westin Siray Bay made it for him an unforgettable experience! They filled the room with balloons and little robots made of paper carrying his name. They added some candy and chocolate cake, the little guy couldn't be more happier! on top of that they gave him this wishing lampoon as an extra present.
Thanks for all that :)

All in all I would for sure go back, my son is still talking about his stay at Westin Siray Bay.

some photos from Mrs. jaejaez's blog from our visit some years back.
Sad to hear that the plat happy hour has been pulled... you'll see why when you go through some of these pics and see how great they look (especially under the sunset).
