Courtyard Paramus, NJ [Master Thread]

This property is relatively new and is near the intersections of the Garden State Parkway and Route 17. We spent a Saturday night here after visiting some friends and family nearby. Overall, it was fine (new and clean) for the price and we'd stay there again if we needed a place in the area. If you are very sensitive to highway noise, however, it might not be a good location as you've got Route 17 on the front and the Parkway on the back.

Getting in and out of the parking lot is a bit confusing as you have to go go past the hotel and double back through the Syms parking lot. Upon checkin, we were upgraded to a Suite on the third floor at the far end of the hallway. (Judging from the floor maps, there are some larger rooms on the floor, but layout is unknown and they are very near the elevators.) The suite consisted of a living room and a bedroom. The living room was larger and contained a wet bar with a small fridge and microwave, a two-seat sofabed, desk, and the bathroom. The bathroom had a slightly larger tub, but no jacuzzi. The bedroom was rather small (not much larger than the king bed), but had an HD LCD TV, as did the living room. The clock radio had an iPod hookup, as well as some very interesting white noise selections (croaking frogs, anyone?).

The breakfast area downstairs was relatively large and had a station where you could order omelets or waffles. We had a rate with breakfast included that made it worthwhile--not sure we would have wanted to pay full price.

Good to know! Thanks...

I agree, that area can be traffic mayhem....at least I am FROM jersey so I am used to the wackiness!

Is the above statement a confirmation that you can hear the highway noise at night when you are trying to sleep? If yes, that's what I suspected and hence have never sent anyone to this property.

Stayed at CY Paramus three times since it opened. Do not remember hearing noise from traffic on both sides at night.

The OP is correct about the entrance to the hotel, its the first right after the exit ramp from the parkway. You will have to merge to the right as cars are merging to the left onto Route 17.

Our suite was at the far end of the property and I think faced the Parkway. There was a pretty low hum of road noise and once in a while you could hear the Jake Brake of a semi. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate the noise somewhere between a 1 and a 2. I'm sure other parts of the property are quieter.

We were coming from the North and heading South on 17 and had to overshoot the property by two exits to make a U-turn. The first exit after the property is the Parkway and we didn't want anything to do with that!

2018 Update.

I've been staying at this property off and on since my first post 8 years ago. I mostly avoid the CY in favor of the full-service Marriotts in Park Ridge and Saddle Brook for the free breakfast and have also been staying at Hyatt and IHG properties in the area (also with free breakfast). In all my stays, I've never been able to get upgraded into the suite (or any other room upgrade for that point). The best I am able to do is get a room on higher floor.

My most recent stay was New Year's Eve for one night. Despite my comments in the reservation not to be placed in a room facing Route 17, I was given one on the fourth (top) floor. I spent about 30 seconds in it before I determined the road noise was going to be a problem and called down ask asked to be moved. To their credit, they quickly moved me to a room on the other side of the hallway and sent up someone to give me the keys. Odd-numbered rooms = facing Route 17. Even-numbered rooms = facing the Garden State Parkway. Lower-numbered rooms = ones furthest away from highways and Higher-numbered rooms = ones closest to the highways.

The rooms were refreshed a few years ago and while still in general good shape, the toilet in our room had leaky seals, so it ran every few minutes; I closed the door to the bathroom and it helped a bit. Unlike a lot of CY, the sink is inside the bathroom and not in the adjacent hallway. This makes the bathroom quite large and spacious, which is a plus.

Overall, despite the convenience of the location, CY as a brand doesn't have much to offer elite members ($10 food and beverage credit or 500 points for Plats and above) and this property really doesn't work for me compared to the numerous other options in the area.
