I think the difference is in the lounge itself and the way it's run. Sure there are a lot fo Marriott lounges around the world as I am sure you well know that some are better than others. This particular property has been consistently well managed, great staff and their pride is shown especially in the lounge. At the end of the say it's all about personnel preference.

Any comments on the top suites here? Also does any one have a GM or manager contact email? Looking to make an import reservation for a family event and would love a personal contact, thanks! |
Just completed a stay here and I really liked this hotel. The location was perfect, its central-ish with easy access to the tram while being just far enough away from the main drag that you can go have fun while not having to stay in the middle of party central when your done. All the staff I interacted with (checkin, room service, bar) were great and the lounge was one of the best I've been to with 5 hours of open bar (beer/wine 5-10PM) and substantial food options (5-730PM) as well as coffee available all day (never really quite made it for breakfast :D). My previous favorite hotel in AMS was Pulitzer (which left a while ago) and I have to say while lacking the novelty I actually preferred the Marriott due to location, lounge and bar. I did have a room with the "table" rather than a desk, initially I found this odd as it was an "executive room" but it had a L-shaped couch thing in front of it and was able to use my laptop just fine. I have previously stayed at the Renaissance, haven't tried the W, but based on this stay the Marriott will be my go-to in AMS.

Breakfast is truly the best here for any Marriotts. I can remember flying from Nairobi on KLM landing at 530am and all I wanted to do was get to the Marriott and east breakfast!! This Marriott makes a great dropping off point coming from the US stay a night leave bags fly on to Africa and then return. We have done this several times taking a safari and it works well |

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...2236dcfcf6.jpg Stayed in a renovated room on the seventh floor overlooking Leidseplein. Had a choice of a jnr suite which was just a larger room with entryway but on a lower floor, but the higher floor room was cozier and had a great view over the tree tops and roofs. Lounge is a nice bonus: in the evening there were three hot entrees with at least one vegetarian option, such as gnocchi, pasta or fried veggie rice. Also, plenty of nice bread, smoked mackerel, cheese, variety of mini appetizers, etc. Breakfast in the lounge had almost as much buffet choice items as in the restaurant. Apart from longer breakfast hours, restaurant breakfast did not offer much additional value. The location was very good with a short walk to the museum quarter and to the canal ringed downtown. There is a nearby park (Voldenpark) to run and a dedicated bicycle parking stand area in the back of the hotel, past the valet parking. A-bike Rental and Tours bike store on the side street next to the hotel give bike rental discounts to Marriott guests. Riding a bike in Amsterdam can definitely be the highlight of one’s visit: (checkout Amsterdam nigh lights festival through January 20). |
anyone have the email for this hotel?

We enjoyed the stay here since we wanted to see lots of places in Holland and this was a great base. We liked Keukenhof, Giethoorn, Flevoland, Haarlem, Utrecht, Kinderdijk, Hallerbos, and Alkmaar. We visited Zaanse Schans but found this very touristy for our tastes. Our favorite place was Amsterdam itself since it has so much charm and we had a week of 75+ degree sunny weather so it was perfect. We did note that not all rooms are accurately described on the website and some are much smaller due to the layout. The 11th floor has considerable noise from all the machinery, ventilation, etc upstairs so we opted for the 10th floor and that worked out well. The breakfast was great and we had some evening snacks when we were in town that were nice. We liked that it was right across the street from the tram stop since flying from SFO-AMS is a long flight and this hotel made it an easy trip to and from the airport.

I recently had a stay here. Totally enjoyed it.
- The lounge was maintained nicely. Food was great! - House-keeping staff is friendly and efficient - Location is great, easy for public transportation and close enough to downtown. - Most importantly, I left some precious jewelry at the property after I checked out but the hotel was able to find them swiftly & return back to me (similar thing happened to me in W Paris, received three emails with different answers first "no", then "yes" and finally "still looking") |
Beware of construction/club lounge closed
Just checked in today and was given a room on 2nd floor. They said at the time no other rooms were available. I unpacked and laid down and started hearing the worse jackhammering and drilling right below me. I went back down to front desk and she said “oh they did not advise of the possible construction from 10-5pm”. After I stood my ground that they had to move me she found a room on floor 5 on the other side away from construction. I never recalled seeing the note on the website a few weeks ago when I booked but she said it’s on the website now. I would have stayed at the Andaz or Renaissance instead Also club lounge closed and its in a temporary spot in the ballroom area , another reason I would have choose another property |

I asked and was told construction just started a few days ago and will last “a few months hopefully “ |
And to make things worse the temporary lounge also dubs as the main breakfast spot for the hotel. While it’s a nice spread with made to order eggs the place is a complete madhouse. Definitely not a relaxing morning lounge feel. Personally I would choose the Renaissance until the lounge is open again. PS: still can’t find anywhere on app/website where this info is listed. |

Update - I reached out to the hotel and received the following response from the manager.
Thanks for reaching out to us regarding this. The reason for the construction site is that we are renovating our restaurant and kitchen, which are planned to open in the first week of September. This would also mean that in that week, according to the current planning, the M Club will be back in its usual place. 🙂 The M Club is open during July & August, but has indeed temporarily been moved to our meeting rooms and it is running just like usually. |
I wrote an email after I checked out to the manager asking why still as of the other day nothing was mentioned on the website. 3 days and no response.... |

So glad I saw this thread before booking. Was looking to stay at this property in two weeks, but I'll probably book the W instead.

And I will be quite upset if I show up here in mid-September and the lounge isn’t open. I specifically booked an Exec room just for the lounge access. I would stay elsewhere if I knew the lounge would be closed.
Unlike here in the US the Dutch are very efficient people I would be shocked if the repairs are not done in time. Further I asked if there were any changes planned to the lounge itself and was assured not. I stay there a lot and throughly enjoy the hotel and it's staff. |

I received a reply to my DM from the manager and to my email from the Guest Experience Supervisor. Both assured me the construction would be finished by the first week of Sept but neither addressed my question as to why this information wasn’t posted on their website.
do you mind sharing their contacts with me ? I sent an email to the general email and no response would rather have a direct contact thanks |

I sent them a message on Facebook messenger to Amsterdam Marriott Hotel which was answered within an hour. I also simultaneously emailed [email protected] which was answered the following day, albeit from a different email address (probably the guest service manager’s personal email). But obviously mine got through.

I have found the FB posting for general questions works well they are fast in getting back to you. For years this has been one of the best run international Marriotts. In fact it is the FIRST Marriott internationally !! This is my go to room at the Hotel !!

I happen to visit this property at the beginning of July and also had a room on the 2nd floor, but did not experience any construction noise from the M Club work at that time. I am sure it is in full effect now as mentioned by the other FT member.
As mentioned, the lounge area has taken over a number of the conference room areas. They have a temporary kitchen area only for the eggs and waffle/pancakes area in the morning and everything else comes from the main kitchen. Because I have never been to the normal lounge, I can't tell what was reduced or missing. I felt the lounge breakfast options were very good and typical to what I have seen at other international Marriott FS locations (Zurich or Sydney, etc.). I agree that it does appear they are using the space for breakfast for other guests that have it bundled in their rate or package (in addition to status eligibility). The temporary lounge area also had the small hot food and dessert in the evening. My perspective was it didn't really rotate during our stay (maybe leftovers shifted to following day) and could be considered a pass. This property does have laundry machines (7 euros for a token/one load) which seems a bit unique for a FS property. In terms of the local area, of course, you have plenty of trams and buses nearby. There is a Blue Boat loading zone very close by for one of the more common canal tours (sold online at a slight discount). There is a Hard Rock and separate casino also very close to the property. Also, one should not underestimate the actual Leidseplein area on the other side of the nearby canal which is very touristy, but is a hub of many outdoor restaurants and stores that can be of use. If you want to go more local in terms of shops, restaurants or stores, turn left on Stadhouderskade as you leave the property and left again on Overtoom for as far as you wish to explore. And a reminder that Bus 397 is the best way to get to/from AMS airport to this property. In the main hall before you exit the airport, there is maybe one or two public transport automated machines that sells tickets as well as some of the bookstores in the terminal. However, there is this converted red bus that sells tickets which might be easiest for many. It is not far from the bus loading zone for this bus. The red bus can sell round-trip bus tickets and child bus tickets via card or cash specifically for the 397. The bus driver also sells tickets, but only takes card. For public transport, what I could not easily find was a person to sell child GVB day passes. Machines don't (because they believe adults will use them) and most tube stations are now unattended for sales depending on the machines to sell tickets. I didn't find a manned GVB ticket store either at the airport. It looks like trams have a manned booth in the middle that can sell them, but I needed one when I started my day at the metro. |
The hotel is nice, but the staff except the people from the executive lounge seemed quite incompetent.
The hotel is blocking a huge amount (over 10,000 EUR) on my credit card which has not yet been unblocked (10 days after the stay) |
For all that asked the two pictures of the same room it's room #823 !!!!! Great room Jr Suite

Hope you can get the room also either side would work well. The hotel tells me the executive lounge renovations are on schedule that place is a treat. |

Does anyone know how this property compares to the other options (i.e. W/Renaissance/Apollo)? Looking to book a few nights in the city.
I've never been to Amsterdam, so mainly looking for ease of access to/from the airport, tourist attractions, food, and the like. From the pictures I could find online, it looks like the Marriott has the largest rooms by far? There are three of us, so it'd be a helpful secondary criteria, as I'm just a lowly Gold and unlikely to get any sort of upgrade. |
I’ve stayed at the Ren and this prop. I was there w my wife she 9 year old daughter when staying at this one. I like this one in all ways better than the Ren. The lounge is better. The rooms nicer if you get one that has been refurbed. The food outlets more to our liking. And above all the location is amazing. What you’ll get on the Ren is the location to the train station. That was why I chose that one. For us that is not a factor. Getting to the train station from this one is a five minute ride on a tram. Now the reason I chose this one was that I couldn’t book a from at the Ren that had a king and could accommodate a rollaway. So if that is a factor make sure you read the descriptions for the room types before booking. |
