Receipt of referral bonus timeline
How long does it take for the referral bonus to be credited? Do I have to wait until the person I refer make the $500 threshold spending and then getting the 20k bonus before I get my bonus? Do I have to keep my SPG card open at the time the referral bonus is posted?

IME, it takes 6-8 phone calls to Amex to get the referral bonus. Make sure you keep notes on when you called and who you spoke to.

When your friend is APPROVED, you'll get the referral bonus posted/added to your card account, but you still have to wait for your card statement to cycle before you see the referral bonus, so yes, keep your card open until you see the points listed on your statement.

I have been missing my points since my statement closed on the 21st.
For reference, my parents had their statements close on the 23rd and 27th and their points have been posted.

I've made a few calls into Amex to get a better sense of when my points would show up in my SPG account (for the card NOT referral).
Recent experience...points awarded by Amex on March 24th, showed up in my SPG account today (March 31).
So far, SPG has been way more predictable (and quicker to post) than MR points.
