Shipment received on June 18. Reported the shortage immediately to the Mint. Faxed the CNR together with copy of UPS label and tracking summary showing weight being only 14.4lb on the same day.

Called on June 22 and was informed that information forwarded to HQs on June 21.

No progress status as of June 25. Intend to call after July 4th holiday to follow up.

Received email today on July 1.

The process took almost 2 weeks - and it is a case that is very easy to resolve given the recorded weight clearly indicates only 3 boxes in the package.
Second Update:

Got yet another email from Mint about a "Return" of a box to them.

Went to check order status and it shows this:

Product Name Quantity Price
(each) Total Item Status
JAMES MADISON $250 BOX $1 COINS 1 $250.00 $250.00 2 units shipped on 06/17/2010, 1 units returned
GEORGE WASHINGTON $250 BOX $1 COINS 2 $250.00 $500.00 2 units shipped on 06/17/2010
JAMES MADISON $250 BOX $1 COINS 1 $250.00 $250.00 1 unit backordered. Expected to ship on 07/16/2010.

It looks like the Mint processed the shortshipment as a "Return" to generate a credit. Then it will ship again on July 16... Now this single box would surely be ship by USPS...

Why can't they simply close the case by the refund?!

I did it in March at Bally's. Not quite that much, but no problems.

I was going to say that I never thought the Mint 4 box limit will last through the end of the year. But I just saw almost every president and the NA and the Sac dollars are on backorder. Is it possible that the 4 box limit will still allow the Mint to get rid of their stock?

I was thinking the Mint was going to change to something more like a 25 box a month limit. I know they don't pay the shipping charges but this has to cost them more, with more shipments going out in smaller quantities.

How about e-coins. The Mint can go green! I have no idea how it would work but i don't deal with the details. Which is funny because I work in accounting

Huh? Who pays the shipping charges? Do they have some UPS franking ability that I've never heard of?

Here is the problem I see with backorders. I was trying to understand why some of my recent orders were going on hold forever. The Mint agent said the code was "Credit Card Denied Due to Excessive Use", but my credit card company had no idea what they were talking about. I spoke with a higher-up and he said that code was actually a Mint code when an order occurs within 10 days of the last time the Mint processed a card involving that address. In other words, the 10 day window isn't necessarily from the Order Date, it is from the Mint's date of credit card processing. If orders are backordered and the Mint doesn't internally process the credit card until the backorder clears, it will delay the 10 day wait and make it difficult to order 3 batches a month.

shipment auto-returned

i had placed an order for $2000 worth of coins a long time ago. we were traveling internationally and were out of the country when ups tried to deliver it three times. we were not around so after a week of holding the package was sent back to US Mint. Did anyone else have a similar experience? I want to find out how and if my money will be refunded to my credit card. Do I need to call them or will it be done automatically? Thanks

Placed an order yesterday for 4 boxes of the Andrew Jackson coins and it said item(s) on back order and won't ship until 6/28/2010..... Umm.... so if it was supposed to be shipped before I bought it, how come it has not cleared yet?

Do you know for sure the Mint has received the returned shipment?

If the Mint has received it, your order status would have changed to "shipment returned". You would also received emails from the Mint - one to inform you the returned shipment, one to inform you a credit is process to your card.

Check your order status - if nothing changed from before (shipped), then the Mint has not reconciled the returned shipment.

You decide whether you need to call the Mint to follow up.
