Okay get this... I order my first order of coins from the Mint of over $3,000, they run my card for authorization and get it. Coins are on backorder and due to ship any day. Three days after the authorization, my cc is put on hold due to a financial review (yesterday). Any charges that come through will be declined until the review is done.
Today, the Mint emails me and sends a tracking number for the coins which were shipped today overnight. UPS shows it in their system but there is no further info on when it will arrive. Just says to check back. I am not sure if UPS actually has it in hand or if they just received the order to pick it up from the Mint.
I know the Mint didn't run my card because it would have been declined. I suppose tomorrow they will run it and then what.....
When I talked to the Mint yesterday and told them that my card was frozen, they told me to just let the process go through and if it gets declined they would run it again a day later or so. They didn't say that they would ship it without payment, I just assumed they would wait until they got the payment first.
Has this every happened to YOU? Anyone?

Once the authorization has gone through, AE will still let your charge go through. They only freeze anything that does not have an authorization yet. So you will get charged with no problem. This is normal.

UPS Automated Delivery Notification
If you want to sleep in, monitor tracking and take your phone off the hook! The UPS computer phoned this morning at 8:00 AM to say delivery would be today.

Interesting... I've been doing 1K a month or so for the NA coins... and they had been showing up fine. Just placed an order for some AJ's (2 boxes) and immediately had the authorization show up on my CC...
What I found most intriguing was it had changed, instead of showing up as US MINT COIN SALES-DR it showed up as OFC DOLLAR COIN. Hmm...
I've had my fair share of strange looks, when using them for tips or to pay, and also as passing them out of a till I even had a server run out of the restaurant in Florida thanking me for them... they thought they were very ^^

My experience has been that most people take them, but I've had a few instances where people look at them as though they're a foreign currency and they're not sure if they can accept them. This happened recently at a restaurant where I included 6 of them with some bills. I hate using them for tips because often the look I get suggests they think they're quarters.

I just bought some native americans. They posted as US Mint Sales, so I wonder if it's just the Presidents that are posting differently.
I was using some at the supermarket today, and they at first didn't want to accept them because they said there was no date (2010) on them. Turns out it's written on the side of the coin.

Buying thousands of dollars and taking them right to the bank is too far towards the "bad" side of gaming the system. Plus my wife would probably kill me if a couple thousand dollars of coins showed up at the house.
Once I get my delta reserve in the mail I will start ordering up some boxes. A little extra spending to hit my miles bucket, and some fun using the coins.
Side note, in St. Pete/Clearwater many of the beach parking accept dollar coins, the change machines actually cash them out instead of quarters.

In Lowell, MA, a parking meter was $0.25 for 15 minutes or a $1 coin for 2 hours. A 100% bonus for using the dollar coin! ^
If you think about it, it makes sense. Most of the parking meter effort has to be labor to empty the boxes and process the cash. If everyone used dollar coins instead of quarters the meters would take a lot longer to fill up, and the city saves on labor and processing costs. Encouraging use of the dollar coins in parking meters makes perfect sense.

Can you clarify this for me? Did this happen to you or someone you know?
I got my coins today and my cc is still frozen for the financial review. I am afraid when the mint runs the transaction it will be denied. If they can hold off a week, then maybe the FR will be done by then.
Anyone else out there have it take more than a few days to have the charge go through on your cc?

My transaction has not gone through without a problem. I got the coins, but my cc account has not been charged. If the US Mint tries to charge my account in the next few days it will be denied.
You said this happened to you last year. Was your charge waiting a FR? How long after you received your coins did it take to charge to your cc?

I had a large order several months ago, and only part of it was charged to my card, leaving $2,500 delivered to me and not charged to me. I waited a week or so for the charge to appear and then called. I had to talk to someone in "headquarters", and it took some effort to convince him I had coins I had not paid for. Turns out the credit card company had rejected the second charge and the Mint had set it aside. I don't know what a hold for financial review means, but I recommend you call them. Another FT'er had a similar experience and waited until he received a threatening letter demanding payment. There are a couple of posts on it some time back.

I would first wait an extra day or two. The posting of the transaction normally takes 2-3 days AFTER the charge goes through. On last Thursday, I purchased tickets online at the Universal Studio Singapore. The charge did NOT post until 4 days later. Also, I will be receiving more coins today, and the charge has NOT posted either. Should I worry? No, because it is normal. It is how the system works. If it doesn't show up after 4-5 days, then I will worry.

The new $1000 limit really seems to be fixing the backlog. Coins are being delivered much faster now.

My fears are over!
Update to my previous post:
Even though my card is suspended due to the financial review, the US Mint charge still went through. I was told all charges would be denied, but I guess it went through since it was pre-authorized before the freeze on the account.
Got over $3,000 of coins yesterday and got rid of them all today. Spent some at the post office to get stamps and got a money order. Also went to Walmart and got a $1,000 money order. No problems! Everyone seemed happy to get them, no weird looks, and no one wanted to unroll them and count them.
Wheeeww!
