Not worth the hassle at all. All the major casinos on the strip only take bills in the slots and none of the coin slots I found anywhere in the city took dollar coins. [There is one casino downtown that only has coin machines, but they do not take the dollar coins] At one point, someone in this thread hinted that one coin counting machine in one casino downtown would take the dollar coins. I searched high and low, but couldn't find it!

I went to a poker room and tried to buy in with $100 in coins and the boss looked at me like an alien and asked lots of questions and finally said, "we don't take those here, go check with the main cage." So I walk over to the main cage, the teller doesn't know what to do, but the head cashier is like "of course, give the man bills." Any more than $100 and I think there would have been lots more questions.

Casinos in Vegas are hyper-aware of odd behavior. Bringing in dollar coins is going to get you noticed, and not in a good way.

On the plus side, there are 7 Wells Fargo branches within a few miles of the strip, and every one of them was happy to take the dollar coins I had stocked up on to unload in the casinos.

Drive by posting.

I haven't been able to buy any coins for several months b/c my credit union in Charlotte shut me off after the last round of my $5k in coin. So every time I login to FT and see this thread, I can't help but feel like I am being taunted by the rest of you lucky folks who can still play the game!

???

I have accounts with six different banks/credit unions in my downtown area that I use for coin deposits, so I am "only" depositing $1,000 - $1,500 at a time with each. Not that I have been getting approved for big orders lately. For four of these, I have never deposited anything other than coins.

There has to be more than 1 financial institution in your area.

I'm packing to head back up to Montana next week, so hopefully will set up a new account with the mint and start over with the limits since is is a new address. I am wondering if I need to use a different Credit card as they might track that as well? My dog may have to use his Amex SPG for the purchases

$100 in coins = 100 miles or $1-2 cashback

Honestly.... is it really worth it to lug these things into a casino? I get if you don't mind using the coins in your regular activity, but to go out of your way to try and use them for such a minor rewards seems pointless. It's like driving 10 miles across town because gas is 2 cents cheaper.

Add another authorized user to your card, you will have great success with the same CC number.

Best,

I'm up north of CLT so they are all branches, and I've only one banking relationship. But what banks do you use, and are all of them in Uptown?

found a good use for my coins with a new job I'm trying to get in NYC

$10 bux a day spend on my bus commute between NJ and NYC

monthly or weekly bus pass may be more logical to save some cash in the future, but until I know for sure this job is secure, I'll be using coins on my trips
