summary?

hi - just found out about this and ordered the 4 coins available today at the 2 per president= $2000, used my starwood amex and got the free freight!

questions: is the offer good for for me to use other credit cards or only one per name?
can my wife order using her card to the same address?
when more coins are availble can I order more with the same deal?
If the PO "looses or misplaces" my shipment, will the credit card companies put a hold on the charge like any aother non-reciept of goods on a card purchase?

I know these questions may have been anwsered before but with so many postings I would hope someone can answer all without me having to read all the comments...

thanks!

Both are good tips. As for an MR to NYC I would love to. However, the check bag charges for $3500 in coins would negate the point earnings on this deal.

As for the TSA..Thanks for the heads up. I am flying out tonight on a weekend trip. In preparing last night I threw a couple of rolls into my carry-on. I guess I should un-wrap them so that I don't have to deal with the TSA clowns.

Yes, these questions have all been answered before, in fact, even in the last couple pages.

Nonetheless, I do believe maybe a sticky at the front that answers all these questions might be useful.

Because I'm a nice guy:
No, only $500 per president per address.
Some have had success using their wife or other family members name (and card), some have not. If you live in a single family home, it seems putting an 'apartment 1' is enough to make the address look different.

So far I've gotton $3500 out of this (each president). My wife is an AU on my SPG card, and we were able to order $1000 additional dollars (JQA and Jackson), however, when we tried to get an additional $500 of Washington in my wife's name, the order got canceled...

Nonetheless between my wife and I (using the same address) we have managed to get $4500 out of this.

Thus... YMMV.

Oh dontcha just love it when using 2 things issued by the government at the same time still make it so you are somehow caught in the middle and in the wrong?
I mean that's about as bad as how tonight, when my 2 year old insisted on pushing the shopping cart in the market and I bought a 6 pack of beer and put it in to the cart with the fruit and meet we had to run out and pick up, that the store manager told me it was illegal for her to touch the cart and he was really mad at me about it.
It's one of those things where policy is pushed beyond practicality and things fail in every way possible as a result.

with reference to all of the quotes below regarding rules or what I call 'personal rules' on why the bank I visit regularly does not like the coins and has problems taking them:

I think the issue had to do with the fact that the bank I go to knew I was just churning these because I kept bringing in boxes. So in an effort to try to get me to be more helpful to how they process their inventory (ie, I was now making the bank manager's job harder for her by doing my thing) they 'asked' me, in so many words, to refrain from bringing lots of coins until there were enough to allow them to send back to the feds. Apparently all banks who accept these--even the ones you all use--can only really ship them back to the feds like they would any excess of any currency they may have on hand--if they have lots of $2,000 worth. Otherwise the currency just sits in the bank til it can move. I dunno why or how this works but it seems to make some sense. And it seems smaller branches like to keep nominal quantities of regularly used product on hand but get bogged down trying to keep track of the weird stuff. I suppose a bunch of $2 bills, a bag of 10,000 pennies or a thou of these coins qualify as the latter.

In other words, if I made them hold onto them, they do nothing in that bank but just sit there making that manager have to use MS Excell all night instead of going home to watch Dr Phil, because she probably has to update and constantly not forget whatever the bank has or wants to send out to the federal reserve.

I think she has to count in all the day's monetary takes, transfers and other transactions and these basically suck for her. These do not fit in the normal mix of things perhaps, and while it's one thing to be able to just do your job when it throws a curve ball, it's quite another to actually meet the bloke whose throwing it--ie, ME .

Just as many merchants such as the Greek pizza lady I mentioned recently said her problem was that the cash register doesn't like how they do not fit in there either and everyone almost mistakes them for quarters, this bank manager doesn't like them because they don't 'fit' in her branch.

I think the bank is trying to make it easier on themselves. I am sure they could accept the coins... and maybe if I complained to higher ups, they'd be forced to, but I think she's hoping I accept her policy or request to make it easier and making one up to make that happen.

Of course, if everyone in here were to abide by her policy of bringing only lots of $2,000 now, she'd have a new problem because she'd take them from a few of you, but probably then go invent a new rule where only pallets of say $20,000 can be brought in.

Lastly, I think some banks have more pull than others on how they can make rules. As the teller in the other bank I recently went to stated, "well, they ARE bank of America. They can do pretty much anything they want."

I mentioned in here about my experiences but I am not going to try to make things difficult just to deposit these. I will find other means. There are other banks nearby. It will just be another step for me. Once I cash them, I just have to deposit the bills into my BofA acct at any BofA ATM.

See Wikipedia.

By that token, banks presumably do not have to accept all forms of legal tender, since there is no debt incurred. However, a bank isn't really a merchant, and they're regulated differently, so I don't really know whether or not they can turn away specific forms of currency.

You have one of those, too? (A two-year-old 'helper', not a shopping cart or a market )

If you get a weird tracking number for UPS, you should search on the UPS Mail Innovations site for tracking info.
http://www.ups-mi.net/packageID/Default.aspx

If it is sent in this manner, after the UPS-USPS hand-off, then you can check for confirmation at usps.com with the same number

Commerce Bank

Tried to deposit 10 rolls of coins into my account at Commerce Bank. They said I had to unwrap them and feed them through their Penny Arcade machine. Think I'll try Citibank on Monday !

I've taken some to BoA (don't have much use for $2,750 coins) - mine will only take rolled coins and didn't care one bit when I walked in with $400 . . . Then again, I live in "small town where your BoA branch is closed on Saturday".

Just took $500 Andrew Jackson to US Bank and the teller said "oh goodie. We have customers asking for these" She quickly gave me my change. Easy enough for the miles

Has anyone had some issues with the mint cancelling perfectly valid orders?

I've tried to have some sent to my office as well as to my house and they've cancelled them. My roomate ordered a few coins and I've orderd two so I shouldn't be at the point where I am over the limit but they seem to think that I am :-(

They came! I just got back from the P.O. with my coins. I had to sign several things, but at last I have them. Tomorrow I will attempt to deposit most in my bank. By the way, before I went to the P.O. I checked that P.O. tracking link and this time it worked saying it had left a center of some kind yesterday. So keep checking that link.

I just placed an order for three presidents: JQA, Madison, and Washington. Does anyone know if my order will ship separately for each president or if I will receive on larger box containing all three? I am having my order shipped USPS Registered Priority. Thanks
