You pretty much have to specifically ask for them. The only places I've seen them given by default are the Post Office and SF Muni.

I ordered my 2 boxes during the brief window on 7/15, and just got the email 7/19 at 9pm with the tracking number. Interesting that they would ship on a Saturday at 9pm when all the shippers are closed, and that there is no charge on my credit card yet. dhl.com recognizes the tracking number with "shipment data received" and says that it will be shipping from Memphis.

My bank was happy to get the ones I deposited...the teller said they've had lots of requests for the Presidential coins from customers and have had a difficult time getting the coins from the Fed.

Guess not everyone keeps up w/Flyer Talk!

What golden goose? it seems there will be 4 a yr and so far we dont know if it will all be free shipping. Even if it is I dont see 2000 miles (500 x 4) as a golden goose. 20,000 miles OK but no way 2000.

I also as a poster above decided to pull the handle on 7/15 for some raeson, and was also swept in and got the confirmation yesterday that they were shipped, didnt hit the CC as of yet

Hi there - this has been an interesting thread. I ordered on 7/14, in the brief "in stock" window. They shipped 7/17 and arrived 7/19. The charge was posted to my card. They are very shiny and pretty. I'm thinking the next Christmas present for my myriad nieces and nephews will be a personalized treasure hunt for each one, with a little box of gold coins at the end...

The unattended toll booths in So Cal (maybe Orange County?) gave dollar coins as change when I used them last year.

my coins arrived Friday, 7/18.
box was left on front steps, no sig required --which may or may not have been a good thing. (neighborhood is pretty safe but you know...)

so roughly 3+ weeks, 500 miles.
No interest to be earned on this one--if you had put $500 in an ING or a Citi ultimate savings acct for a month or so, you could come away with about $1-$1.50 in interest, which is enough to save one coin for a souvinir. You could then pay back your CC with it and go again.

Of course, my theory in this gig has always been that eventually they would either start charging for shipping, in a smaller but growing amount, then delay the process with excuses or mistakes in delivery, and finally, cancel or completely alter the program. It's the way of things in FT, although this did in fact do what it said it would do.

I would love to run with it again but I guess we all have to wait and see. I did miss the recent window to reorder, and I will take these to my bank this week. My credit card has already cut its statement and I will promptly pay it back online.

from an earlier post I had made last week:

My NWA visa card was charged as a purchase and I've pasted in the line item off my online statement as follows:

07/16/08 Us Mint Coin Sales-dr 800-872-6468 Dc $500.00

...actually I received them on the 17th not the 18th.

The Metra (commuter rail) ticket machines in the Chicago area give them as change.

I just returned from Vegas. I didn't find any slots that took them. But I turned some in at the cashier. Also they are great for tips because I don't have to get out wallet. I just reach in pocket.

I have to admit that I find it very funny how so many people are 'finding' ways to use these..THEY ARE MONEY FOLKS! WE'VE HAD IT FOR CENTURIES! So yes it works for tips...shazam! And yes they work for getting four quarters...whiz!

It's money people.

Yeah, but if the form didn't matter, then we'd use pennies for everything. After all, that's the most flexible form of money because you can work in one cent increments.

I just took all the coins to the bank and deposited them...simple

Well, actually, I kept 1 $25 roll for the hell of it. So, I actually deposited $475 to my account.

There was nothing 'cloak and dagger' required. The bank teller took them, smiled and gave me my deposit slip as he said have a nice day Mr. 'thehawk75'.

Very simple.

I have no idea why someone would have difficulty depositing these. These are 'legal tender' after all.

I used them for buy-in at tournaments at locals casinos (and tips for drinks afterwards). I ended up doing the "please note these are dollars, not quarters" statement to make sure the wait-staff wasn't PO but then was asked if I had some to spare. Got a few rolls into circulation over the weekend.
