My BoA VisaBuxx were fine today for withdrawals, but you have to wonder if they are going to be next.

MeLike2Travel May 23, 2005 5:31 pm

24!!! Holy crap. And I thought my 8 was a lot. You definitely got some good miles out of this while it lasted.

Can't blame them for closing the accounts, but to hang on to my $3000 for 30 days is not fair.

All 8 of mine just got terminated today. I guess it was good while it lasted. I wonder if I apply again, will I get denied.

24 cards? Geesh! And people thought I was bad for talking too much!

I take some of what I said earlier back... NO WONDER they closed it down!

To those who had their cards cancelled, were you using the ATM to cash out or were you transferring the money to a different financial institution?

Gone: Savings Bonds, Charter One, Holston Methodist FCU et al, Amarillo National Bank, Travel Funds, VisaBuxx, does someone expect me to pay for travel?

MeLike2Travel May 26, 2005 4:26 pm

To answer alpinewhite's question, I was only doing ATMs.

indeed...
of course it still proves that even if we are all relatviely silient about our methods and means, these things STILL change or die, just like I said many moons ago. IN fact, that may even prove that even if we had talked about it all the time, it would still have changed/died! That said, I bet if we had all shared all the best methods, it might have stayed alive even longer, but that did not happen. :td:

Well, some are still alive but I think it is all how you manage it in your own worlds now. :D

Some are not dead yet. Bring out yer He's not dead yet Come back next Thursday.

...but were you doing small transactions here and there (as what Marathon Man suggested) in addition to the ATM?

Problem with US Bank Visa Buxx

Just got the US Bank Visa Buxx. When I try to use it at my local grocery store to purchase Western Union money orders, it will not let the purchase go through as a debit card transaction (unlike the BOFA Visa Buxx card, which will). This has now happened to me twice. It seems to be programmed in such a way with this particular card that the only option is a credit card purchase, which needless to say is a problem. I have been lucky so far, that both CSR supervisors did an override for me, but clearly they were quite reluctant to do so. Anyone have this experience with this card doing this when purchasing money orders?

You can't use the US Bank card for MO purchases because it can only be used as a credit card, or at an ATM. Generally speaking, if a card doesn't have an "Interlink" symbol on the back, it can't be used for PIN based transactions.

US Bank Visa Buxx

pdxhawk, thank you for the explanation. So, if I want cash, I can use a bank teller and pay $2.50? Any limit to how much I withdraw? At $1.50 for each ATM withdrawl, which I imagine is limited to $400 (or less), (since there are no US Banks for 100's of miles from home, where I could make withdrawls for free), I'm thinking the bank teller route is the best way to "cash out" this card?

Not sure what the best way is for you if there aren't any US Bank ATMS around. If you wanted to avoid the fees altogether you could just use it like your normal credit card until it's empty (you still will have earned the miles for loading it). I've never tried cashing it out with a teller. I think some have had problems getting cash advances from them because they say "debit" on the front.

And actually, now that I see you're in Mass., try it at a Wal-Mart. The US Bank VBx, like the Wachovia Vbx, is on the "PLUS" system. And I believe Marathon Man has used the Wachovia card at Wal-Mart to get MOs successfully, so the USB card might work there. Worth a shot anyway.

I have, but another thing that can work at some banks is this:

put some sort of sticker that looks semi official over the DEBIT word on your card. For example, and I have mentioned this before in other gift card threads, you may often get those little mailing lables from charities or marketing things in the US mail... some have your address on them with a little animal or a flag or something. Carefully cut out the image (a flag works) and stick it over your card and no one is going to peal it off. They will think it is supposed to be there and wont see DEBIT and will try to run your card. If you are nice to the bank manager and get to know the branch personnel it may work! It has for me in the past.
