My guess is the venmo style payments got eyes on the account and then the amount of foreign spend was the final straw
I do not think there is a risk of a AA shutdown, doubt they will even know Citi shut you down You could apply for a Barclays AA card if you still want an AA card Also received a letter from CITI that they would shut down checking in 30 days. I have had monthly Venmo and Paypal inbound for years. This account is 20+ years old. Also have multiple DD and BP. No MS or MO deposits. No forex. Still write a couple of checks a month. It is my main checking account. No word on closing CC. Not sure if that will happen too. Transferred all TY to AA just in case. |

No word on closing CC. Not sure if that will happen too. Transferred all TY to AA just in case. Not sure if it was related to the checking account, but I think transferring TY to AA was a good call. I lost about 300k TY points, they are ghosting me. |

That happened to me as well. Credit cards were suddenly terminated 2 months later or so. No warning.

There have been some DPs that others at the same address who have an account with the same institution (in this case, Chase) also had their accounts shut down even though there was no connection between the two parties other than the similar address. I think that it is prudent to move any and all points any time your bank is signaling displeasure about your account ;) |

It appears that Citi is like Chase. Get one of your accounts closed, all the rest follow
But then why not close all at the same time? Didn't make sense to me. I suspect there was something else going on that led to the CC's being closed.

Chase has blocked him from opening any new cards, but that never impacted me either. But maybe it's different with a Chase shutdown. |

I don't know, there was a long delay. When I asked why the credit cards were closed, they said it was because the checking account was closed.

I have someone living at the same address as me, and he has no issues at all with Citi. Chase has blocked him from opening any new cards, but that never impacted me either. But maybe it's different with a Chase shutdown. So their answer was actually the correct one to your question. Your checking account was closed by the banking part of the institution and the credit part found out about it eventually....., therefore out go your credit cards as well  For the address issue, I was just reporting prior DPs where someone at the same address as the offender was also affected. I don't expect it to be SOP for banks, TBH. |
Still doesn't make sense to me, like it didn't make sense to you. I didn't do anything crazy with the account. I wasn't even using it much. That's why my first suspicion was that they just didn't find me profitable enough as a checking account customer...

U of I Credit Union Visa Signature Cashback - Shutdown
U of I Credit Union Visa Signature Cashback - I'm sure it has been closed for MS MCGC's @ 7/11.
I only found out because when I tried to check in my Hotel the card declined, Called CS about the decline and the said they would send me a letter. Checking account is still open but is useless now. |
Citi Cycling 10k MS risk
Reading a couple of threads online I know generally cycling your CL is a shutdown risk but I’m trying to lower my utilization before a recon with another bank.
What’s the risk of shutdown for a single 10k CL cycle (200k stated income, total ~50k CL with Citi across all cards) ahead of the statement cutting? Obviously no one but the bank knows but thought I’d get some feedback from the pros here. Stable bank payments, many year history, but if they look at purchases on the card it’ll be lots of MS via gift card purchases. TIA |

Less specific DP
Was leaving a more specific DP, but removing various specifics after giving it more thought.
Yes, I was shutdown by US Bank (all CCs) Yes, there were many checking/savings account openings/closings during the years of a long relationship (10+ years) and in some cases using CC funding to meet other non US Bank SUBs. Yes, I had two SUBs that had been awarded within the past two years. Those CCs were left open for at least 2 years before closure and waiting a year from the first to open the next one Yes, there was a fraudulent trx <$100 that I had to dispute earlier this year and it had still been pending last I checked. Yes. I made the mistake of using Zelle to close a bank account to transfer a small balance out before closing it. No, I did not abuse anything related to T&Cs of credit cards that I can recall except mostly not using them much. I made some purchases to keep them active but they may have considered a small negative rewards balance of a card as part of the reason for closure.. that was my own fault for returning an item after claiming rewards and not realizing it may be a trigger that could catch attention. I've since made sure to resolve a similar instance of this for P2 at a different bank to ensure no issues for them . (You learn, after all) Not overly disappointed, but sent a CFPB complaint just to see if anything cones out of it. No idea if I'm banned/blacklisted. but I assume so. |
@vacaloca
We all know it is hard and bad to get shut down. But there are so many red flags with your US Bank journey. If I ran the bank, I'd probably have shut you down sooner. You have received so many bonuses without much real banking business. Multiple credit card funding to bank account. Transactions disputes. Negative award balance. There are more. Maybe other things you are not aware of. Just learn from it and move on. |
why is it a red flag to Zelle money out?
