Sad day for me. Been doing the CC-MO-Bank route for YEARS with BBVA. Then they got bought out by PNC. Within three months (three very active months to be fair) I got the dreaded "what the hell are you doing with all these MOs" call. As is my practice, I was quite forthright and said I was earning frequent flyer miles. CSA warned me that CCcompany might shut me down for "perk abuse" (lol, I know!) and that I should stop. No PNC shutdown yet, but I'm moving on to a new bank. Dang it!

Seems they treated you with unusual courtesy. Sorry for the inconvenience of course. But it's not a bad idea to leave PNC anyways -- makes you eligible for another SUB later. So no reason to be sad during the holidays!

Chase ink was shut down back in 2014. Since then all my new chase card will be shut down in about 1-3 months after it opened, citing previously unsatisfied relationships. Most recently opened a Sapphire in September, this time received a letter in the mail in November saying Sapphire will be closed in December citing "previously closed accounts were by Chase"

So, any one else also in this kind shut down pattern with Chase ?

Your DP is pretty much what has been reported in the past by others.

There does not seem to be a time line for forgiveness but there are some who have been able to work their way back in after a number of years. I suspect that the amount of time depends on the egregiousness of the offense. I suspect that if the shut down were simply due to excess MSing, then your time in purgatory would be less than if you had cost Chase thousands of dollars.

There seems to be a recurring theme of 7 years to reinstatement. You are getting close. Maybe 2022 will be your year :)

That's what I thought. Back to 2014, I maxed out the 5x office supplies with both ink plus and ink bold.

Does the new open/close reset the 7 year timeline? Thanks

There is no 7 year data, just a number that has been bandied about by some who were successful in reopening an account after a shutdown. I have no direct experience as to whether it is fact or fable.

I think that if it were me, I would try to work my way in by working with a local Chase branch and getting some sort of financial relationship with them (if they would allow you to). Maybe set up a savings account and a checking account that you use legitimately and then asking someone at the branch to sponsor you for a new card in the future.

The downside of this is that when Chase shutters a customer, they go all in and eliminate all dealings with that person, just not credit cards.

Chase deposit accounts need to be centrally approved. A local branch can do nothing to override a ban.
I would advise the exact opposite. Develop successful relationships with the competition, and ignore Chase for awhile. A bank will only play nice, when they're convinced that you have lots of options.

Just me but I don't think Chase gives a hoot what your relationships are with other banks.

Chase does pull credit reports, which has nothing but your relationships with other banks. You're probably thinking of AmEx, which gives preference to their own data.

And there you have it :o

It is obvious that none of us has any idea what Chase thinks or does

That is true. My experience with Chase is the same - first shutdown in 2013, then it was a rollercoaster - opened/approved/closed by bank after XXX months. However, my last card with them survived for few years. I don't think they will ever forget...

Wait...Chase shut you down for using cards' features? Maybe more to the story (depositing MOs, credit limit cycling, etc.)?

Probably just VGCs?

Welp, looks like I am now a victim of Chase. Two relatively new accounts (SWA, Business Ink), as well as an older account (Amzn) were closed. I guess the 13K I spent at Staples recently to meet SWA card SUB requirements got someone's attention. I will call Monday to see what, if anything, can be reversed. I really wonder about the Amzn card - though not a big spender on Amzn, I do spend regularly there, and enjoy my Prime benefits.

Am I just SOL?
