You spent 6.95 on fees to get 1035 miles, and 4.94 to get 757. 6.95/1035 = $0.00671/mile, and 4.94/757 = $0.00653/mile. The numbers are pretty similar.
Let's say you want to earn 50,000 miles.
With business 5x card:
50000/5/206.95 = 48 gift cards needed.
48 * 6.95 = $333.60 total to get 50k miles (not including money orders, of course)
With 1.5x card:
50000/1.5/504.94 = 66 gift cards needed.
66*4.94 = $326.04.
The cost comes out to be about the same, with the freedom unlimited card winning out.

Thank you, that is helpful.
So, ordering online at Staples is $308.95. Using your 50K miles example, it's 32 cards*8.95 = $286.40. 5x back on top?

I suppose, but honestly, the business card has a $25,000 limit, so you can only get 125k miles per year. I would want to get those miles for as cheap as I can... it still doesn't feel cheap enough even with the $300 gcs.

Also the 5x applies to cable/internet and cell phone services so you don't have to MS the entire $25K cap.

What you're missing is that you can do both. You just have to decide if it's worth the time.
You're also missing the sales. OD/OM and Staples often have sales that negate the fee of the $200 cards. It's actually the only time I bother to buy them.

Is this thread really necessary? Might as well call Chase on the phone and ask them, better idea is to read read read.

Agreed.

Without going into all the various "manufacturing" methods, just basic use is helpful. I recently had to spend roughly 6k on fencing in my backyard, and turning that into 30k miles was rather nice, if somewhat annoying while paying...

Where do you go to keep updated on the sales/promos? Just on the staples/office depot websites? I haven't seen coupons that apply to gift cards.

I prefer more total points earned per thousand dollars fed through this process for the same time/money cost of the tail part of my manufactured spending process.
(Emphsasis above is mine)

So do I!

They're always mentioned in the Staples thread or the OD/OM thread right here on FlyerTalk

Ask and you shall receive. Check out the OD/OM thread, specifically https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/30870585-post481.html
FWIW, though the deal is $10 off $300, you might as well buy $400 (2x$200), since the fees are the same and you'll make the 5% on the extra $100.

Anyone heard of accounts being shut down or FR for excessive category shifting? I don't do much, maybe 1-2k a month, but actively trying to increase the number.

Its all about the patterns you use to spend...
