Buying money orders from banks as an emergency gift card liquidation strategy?

They charge you about $5-$10, however it is better than nothing. Has anyone here successfully used a Visa, pin enabled, gift card to buy an money order from a bank? |

Many banks (including Citi) will let you buy a money order with a atm or credit card. I don't know about a gift card. They don't need the pin. They just check that your id matches the card.
