Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.

As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.

$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

I bought my first instore Simon GCs since March. Simon Mall in Florida. This was their first day and I was their first customer of the day. Limit is $10K daily (including fees) for now for all purchases. I was at $25K previously. They want to go slow since this is new again. My sense is this will go up again in the future once they make sure everything is going smoothly. It's nice to have things heading back to normal!

Do Simon mall purchases still not earn points/miles on all Amex cards?

Even if the local SM were selling cards, I'd probably still buy them online unless I had mis-timed my orders and found an opportunity for liquidation in the next few days, before I could get a mail order. The processing fee and shipping are generally (for me at least) less than the cost of driving to the mall, not counting the time spent, and the fact that there are frequent promotions for savings on purchase fees and shipping.

With the re-opening, in-mall are now pushing dial-in orders. Guess its a covid mitigation to cut down interaction time

"dial in orders"?

So I just noticed on my recent order, the merchant name changed. Other associated info (merchant category, .etc) appears the same.

Same here.

Do beware that some locations have new staff, so they are still learning.

Gave me the mgmt office business card and told me to call in advance next time, so they can have everything prepped and ready to go when I get to the mall. Nothing for me to do but pay / sign the form before I get my cards

I wonder if this will "fool" AMEX and other issuers that don't award points for Simon purchase to slip by for a while.

Simon seems to have a knack for shooting themselves in the foot advertising different things.

Buy a small denomination GC (Amazon, maybe) and see if Amex allows it for award points. Let us know how it works. TIA
