Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.

As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.

$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

Yep. I was on vacation and out of town the past 5 weeks but I got in town yesterday. I went today to my local Simon Mall and asked about the $1,000 cards. The limit typically for me has been $10,000 per day inclusive of gift card fees. The girl that I see in there a lot told me with the $1,000 cards I can just fill out my Social security # and they will file the form and enter me in their system and I can now buy $25,000 per day. I bought 25 $1,000 cards. They allow you to split it over 3 cards if you want to.

I was away last week but bought a batch (25 x $996.05) when I was away, got home Saturday and started using them Sunday. Sweet. I've tried to sweep all the cash I have into my CC's so that I have the credit available to buy at least two more batches before it turns into a pumpkin. It's not just the reduction in purchase fees from 80 basis points to 40, but being able to pay $2500 per bill pay and buy $3K of MO's. (Maybe I can do $4K but I'm not going to push that.)

I just assumed the cap includes fees like it used to. It's not like it's a significant difference. But next time I go I'll ask.

The form didn't ask for ID info, it just asked if my address or ID have changed.

I'm reminded a bit of what Hyman Roth said at his birthday party. ("The Godfather Part 2.") "We have now what we have always needed. Real partnership with the government." We MSers certainly seem to have a friendly partner in Simon. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks it's too good to be true!

can someone confirm the block on the declined card use is for 24 hour or gets reset after midnight? I need to try to use the declined card less than 24 hours tomorrow. thanks.

The Simon CSR told me that you have to wait until the next day to try again after a declined transaction on that CC. I am not sure if its a hard code system thing or just a policy thing. Honestly its probably best to call the CC fraud dept ahead of time and tell them that you are doing a large purchase authorization so that they can put a note into your account so that you won't get declined. I think most people don't know that basically once your card has been declined you are barred from trying that card again for 24 hours. The Simon CSR told me that she encourages people to contact the CC fraud department ahead of time to avoid these types of issues.

Simon does have a policy that if your card is declined you may not attempt the transaction during the same day regardless if you use the same or different card.

May I simply say that I tried the pre-authorization route several times with Citi, first with customer service, and when that failed, with their fraud department.
In every instance, I still got declined when purchasing a Simon GC even though they swore up and down that I was approved for the purchase (and I even tried it for a single $500 card!) .
Just to be certain, I then walked into a mall store and used the card without issue.

Maybe it is me. But I now don't use the Citi card to buy Simon VGCs.
