Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.
As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.
$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

My guess is a combination of Metas and WMs. A week ago when the issues started arising with the Metas, it was BAU for me with $500 USB VGCs. I'm going to go buy another one of those today and give it a try. I'll report back

I recall there were some DPs that Kroger was blocking Metas as well? I could drain DE 200s today without a glitch, which may be a temporary relief, we'll see.
If USBs and Greendots keep working, then it probably isn't WM.
Btw, a few ppl reported calling Metabank and being told "that money transaction isn't allowed". Either WM suddenly changed how these swipes code or it's Meta's doing. If all money center swipes became cash advance, then all GC should be failing instantly, since they were setup to block those transactions from the beginning.

It's not wrong, it's inconclusive for now. Not all Metas fail at all WMs, and supposedly some Metas failed at some grocery stores in a similar fashion to what happened at WM. We'll need more reports from those near Kroger/Albertson.

Are there reports of this happening at Albertsons and Co? Thought it was only reported at WM/Kroger.

There were a few vague/brief comments but I felt they were possibly from people who were confused/mistaken. We need more DP's before we can say for sure

Interesting DP from today's visit to WM. I decided to get a 1k MO (so an ID scan) instead of the $999.12 (no scan) I've been getting lately. Prior to the change, I was getting $30-40k/month in MO's from WM, but never more the $2k/day per store, never shutdown. Today, after ID scan, 1st swipe for $400 went through, next one for $400 didn't, "unable to process debit", tried again and then tried $300, no joy. Used a different Simon card for $300 & it went through, then nothing else would. Ended up cancelling the transaction and she let me try again, this time I had her do it for $999.12, no ID scan & used the Simon card I tried 1st on the 1st transaction. 3 swipes, $400, $400 & $200, no problem at all. Seems like maybe WM or MoneyGram has me blocked from using same Simon card for multiple swipes, but not if it doesn't know it's me? I might try a $1k MO again and use a different card for each swipe to see if that works.

Dp today Albertsons 1k 1swipe good
more DP - finished my trip today - total liquidated 16x mix of 1k, 990.88 and 995.88s.
I didn't even try Wally but used staples 200 at Wally
1st stop which is good 90% of the time, got a manager who has sold me before but today gave me “the look” kinda rolled her eyes- 2-200 failed 1 swipe each. I gave of up and said cancel. I suspect she sabotaged the entry but unsure .
next Wally neighborhood same set of staples all good first try.
Now the important part:
(WU)Albertsons 3 stops 2x 1k good first swipe
1 stop 1 k good first swipe.
(WU)Kroger 1stop 1k first swipe
2 stops 2k first swipe
last stop 2k first card failed but worked on 2nd swipe - second card good first swipe
