A lot of chatter about Kroger not working. Walmart is still working, but a lot of code 05 error, and you have to swipe multiple times. I think Simon knows what's going on, and that's why they been giving us these discount codes to drive up sales before the sh** really hits the fan.

I had one card today fail persistently on 4+ attempts. This is from an in-mall batch I got yesterday. Others went through ok or at most from 2nd swipe. Definitely need to start carrying backups these days.

everything worked fine on Sunday
1) 2 SMGC failed in 3 repeated swipes in local grocery albertsons where nothing ever failed before. The cards run fine with pin to buy groceries in regular checkout pinpad.
2) bought 2 metabank at the albertsons and they failed too. POS system update?
Also SMGC balance website not working intermittent

One coincidence is when the SMGC cards fail, sometimes the online balance website errors out too and only have to call to check balance. some special network issues? random ? who knows. Just keep backup guys.

I don't know why there are so many posts implying that the problem is tied to a specific card used and that having a backup card is helpful. It's not. If a card doesn't process on a swipe, it is no more or less likely to process on a second try than any other card you own. The failure to process is random and has nothing to do with the Simon card used. (There can be defective cards in a batch, of course, but this 05 problem is not that.)

I will offer, and claim it definitively (since I have liquidated at least 100 cards, maybe more, since this started):
1) No problem with GC's from Staples
2) All Simon cards will eventually work. Going through the process slowly helps. Wait a few seconds before swiping. Wait a few more seconds before refusing cash back. Wait 15 seconds or more before entering PIN. It's random, so usually I go at "normal" speed for the first try, but then slow down if the card is rejected.
Remember that there is a max of 8 attempted swipes per transaction, after which the transaction will fail. So if you are doing a transaction requiring multiple cards, be cautious. For example, some of my transactions are 2x1000 Simons and 2x200 Staples. If the first Simon fails, I will do the next ones much more slowly because I can't "afford" four fails. If you were doing a transaction with 4x1000 Simon's, you'd want to be even more certain that you don't get multiple rejects.

Kroger has always been my go to place for liquidation because there are a bunch around me and it has always been so easy. I'll be bummed if they're no longer an option.

Sad to say, i went 3 different Kroger on 3 different days last 7 days, tried 5 Simon 1k cards i bought 3 weeks at my mall, none working with error either not authorized or call card issuer something, checked online, all have full balance so far. I went Walmart one time and swapped 3 different card on same transaction, all error code 5 which no one understands what is it. I will stay away from simon card for a while, at least until i get rid of my 5 cards somehow.

I haven't had an issue with the errors lately. For the past week or so they've been working at Walmart, Kroger, and other locations without error codes. This included Kroger on the 30th of October.
I was having error issues earlier and I find it strange that they've gone away when other people seem to be having them more frequently.
