Signing up to buy $1000 visa/mc gift cards
You can buy the $1000 cards on Simon's volume site. Their regular site only sells $500 cards.
If you're new, or haven't bought anything in a year, you need to register at https://www.simon.com/volume/register-consumer
As part of the registration process, you will have to go to a brick and mortar mall and buy at least $3000 in cards in person, as well as filling out some paperwork while there. After that, you can do everything online.

As of Nov 2020, Simon Mall Gift cards will only work for $99/swipe for money services at Walmart and many grocery chains.

$1000 gift cards are available indefinitely.

Isn't online is also killed? In fact SMGC does not even earn Regular Spending Pts since April, let along to meet the MSR which is killed long time ago since last year.

why would it? the amex ban hammer seems to impact their entire line of cards. all amex and co-brand cards. no HH free night. but of course, anything is possible so you can try it out.

I was under the impression that it only did not work for signing bonuses, minimum spends or thresholds toward free nights, but that they still got normal non category points/miles. I haven't bought any with an Amex since May, but usually split 6 or 7 VGCs between Ink Business Unlimited and Blue Business Preferred for 1.5/2 X Points. Guess I will go do the same, but test only $1,000 on the Amex to see if there are still giving points at physical Simon VGC.

Don't waste your time/money. Simon does not earn ANY form of miles/points from Amex since April in either mall or online
Check your 'May' earnings and you will see

Thanks for the heads up. Just checked and you are correct, I did not get anything for the 2 VGC aprox paid with Amex. So it will only be Chase Unlimited from now on and only because they cost $2.95 during June. In the meanwhile Amex Rose Gold is still giving me 4X MR at supermarkets, so that one it is for VGCs, even at $5.95 each.

I suggest you tread lightly on that as well. We don't have good DPs that Amex is actually still allowing GC purchases in other venues.
I did a quick check of a small ($600) GC purchase at Staples with Amex for Hilton and it did go through 1 month ago but that does not mean that they will permit large purchases. Just let us know how you fare with your Amex cards at supermarkets.

gonna assume amex is OK with grocery GC abuse due to spend limits. just like how chase ink is OK with office abuse up to a certain limit. the ban hammers look to be focused on spend where there is no limit like amex simon for normal spend or when people abuse chase 1.5x UR cards. but of course, this is not 100%. plenty counter DP on shut downs or FRs.

What about Wells Fargo cards run on the Amex network? I guess they don't suffer from this issue, right?

Anyone have luck getting cards at a Simon mall today (6/20)? I went to my local mall and the system was down but couldn't tell if it was just this mall or the whole Simon backend.

Rep suggested I call later today before heading back over but wanted to hear other's reports on here.

According to DoC, we are going to be able to get $1k VGC at Simon shortly. Will no longer be Corp customers only.

I welcome this development but it is not so useful in my case. My WM are totally averse to debit loads - MC is a no go while the registers are mostly incompetent/ afraid to load more than $250. I do most of the business at FD/DG where you cannot load more than $500. My local groceries do not sell more than $500 MO and always ask for the card, checking the match between the ID and the card. I order GCM visas which look very similar to a regular debit so never encountered a problem. Even economically, it is a match. The cost to get 1K Simon VGC is $3.95. The cost to get two $500 GCM visas is $1.90 after portal cash back. Even if I have to buy two MO at 0.99 cents each, it is identical to the $3.95 Simon VGC cost. All in all, a positive MS news which is a rare and nice thing these days. More choice is great.
