New to MO: Read this entire Wiki (Click to open) and all posts for some tips before asking common questions. It is best to know what you are doing before you try.

Note: The policy for allowing gift cards as payment for money orders can be more restrictive with certain stores or certain clerks. Just because an employee says there's a new restrictive policy "for all Walmarts" means nothing. There are plenty of cases where the employee is incorrect and the new policy is only regional or store specific.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tested Gebit cards:
1. DO NOT WORK - Any Vanilla product affiliated with InComm or ITC Financial Services will not work for swipes over $49.99.
2. Visas issued by MetaBank work great.
3. MC issued by US bank can work, but you need to change payment type to debit before they enter the amount in the register. See below for details.
5. Gdot/sun work but take about an hour to activate.
__________________________________________________ __________________________________________
NEW Limits as of 11/18 - 8K with ID every 24 hours. ID required for MO over 1K.

Some tips for starting out:

All WM registers allow 4 debit swipes per transaction, but YMMV per store and cashier. Refer to cards as Debit cards.

Start slow and buy one MO with one Gebit to see how it works. Refer to cards as Debit, only this community calls them Gebits. Your store or cashier may have rules that other stores do not have, only allowing one swipe per trans or up to 4 swipes per trans. Read all the tips below and all the posts below before trying more advanced transactions. NO variety or design of VISA or MC Gebit's will ever auto-drain at Walmart so always tell them the amount you want to pay per card. Fee: 1K MO or less is usually 88 cents each, but ask or check the wall. Subtract the fee from the total or pay in cash. If a store says "no", thank them and try again another day with a different clerk.

Helpful details and tips for advanced transactions:

1. Cost:
1K MO fee is usually 88 cents each(Some states limit MO total to 750 or 950 and may have a different fee). Subtract fee from your total or pay in cash. Can buy two 1K MO in one transaction with 4 swipes for 88 cents x 2 in most states. NO variety or design of VISA or MC Gebit's will ever auto-drain at Walmart so always tell them the amount you want to pay per card.

2. Split payment transcations: You cannot successfully swipe more than 4 cards in a single transaction. If the cashier screws up and enters $50.00 instead of $500.00 (thus making it impossible for 4 swipes to complete the transaction), the transaction will need to be canceled. The funds should return to your cards right away but may take 24 hours, so note the time and person helping you. When a transaction is canceled during the trans, the money returns to the cards. If canceled after, the cash reg drawer opens and they pay you back in cash.

3. Split payment: The amount of each swipe needs to be entered by the cashier. Ask to "split the payment by $$$". The Gebit must have current balance of that amount or more otherwise slip with Error 51 will print out. Warning: (YMMV) It appears (my experience on 3 occasions during prepaid card load and buying MO in 2 different WMs) that after the debit card was charged no cash could be credited back to the card. Cashier should issue cash back. Keep the slip and contact manager if in doubt. Remember date, time and register if no slip.

4. Bad Printer: IF, by chance, you've swiped your GCs successfully, a receipt prints but the MO doesn't, make sure to ask to see the receipt and check near the bottom IF it says CHANGE/REFUND with a negative sign before the amount of GCs you swiped, that means the cashier must give you cash refund. Cashier may have to call for the cash dept manager to verify the refund. Some stores may outright give your cash refund immediately while there are others that will ask you to come back. Think twice before you buy MOs while on vacation or when you're in unknown to you territories for issues like this.

5. Kiosk: Very few Kate's can sell money orders anymore.>>>>Sometime 2016, a lot of WM supercenters have done away with Kate (kiosks that allows loading of prepaids/sell $500 MOs). As of today, MOST, if not ALL WMs, have replaced this with the regular slim ATM to check balance/withdraw money.

6. MCGC liquidation- The cashier should
not enter the amount first. Technically they just can't hit enter after entering the amount. Let the CSR know you need to swipe first and switch the payment type to debit, then swipe and hit "Cancel" or "Change Payment" to select "Debit" on the screen, enter the pin and have them enter the amount.

I do sometimes travel with $48-72K in cards (buying $24K at a time), but I wouldn't want to if it had no purpose. I do it because sometimes it's convenient to buy them while on vacation. I don't think it's so foolish to want to know if you're going to be able to use them.

However, the fact is that no one (myself included) wants to identify prime locations for fear such identification will make them no longer prime.

While I appreciate the concern with your accurate breakdown of mathematical genius, I will be driving so shouldnít have any issues with these points. But I Do welcome further opinions of what issues I might run into driving with all that weight in my car. .

Trust me, itís not half as funny as the trolling you provide on these boards.

Guess if you read and understood the words of my original post then you would clearly see I never asked for a broadcast or list of specific wm locations or addresses. Just a general status from local folk about an area Iíve never been too. For some reason I thought this was a place for MSers to get information. Got no problem doing my own legwork but figured I would ask before I headed down with that much in GC.

But on a funnier note, Iím so happy that i have finally been acknowledged as a Ďwhaleí. Guess itís tough to believe that someone could do that kind of volume? Or is it tougher to believe that Iím being 100% honest? Yea I do roughly $60k/ CB site and have 2 email addresses I order from. (Thatís $120k/month for those who canít keep up). But i do need help calculating how much that weighs. Any mathematical geniuses out there? Iím retired so got some time on my hands to play the MO and BP game. . It is pretty amusing when people are butthurt because others are doing what they canít.

So should I ask again? Anyone from
knoxville want to share some DP this whale can ruin in. 3 days while Iím down there? LOL.

Are you being 100% honest? I think thereís some secret Ďhonestí agents lurking on these boards. Canít be too careful posting this kind of information without screen shots of you CC and reward statements. LOL. hope u got the sarcasm bc we know the trolls here donít.

Like I said though Iím not looking for addresses. Was just looking for some local help while I was in town. I can go and visit myself but wouldnít want to carry that much if it was 1 swipe per store. Only have a few days there and some of it actually has to be spent with family. LOL.

Then I guess my question to that is, if you identify a city, is that divulging too much information? Should I have just asked for the state? Like I said.. didn't ask for addresses... it was just a city.. and yes.. I will be stopping by ones on the way and hopefully destroying each location. =)

Update:
Now moneygram website shows the money order status is not cashed and can be replaced. But they can not stop the money order till the replacement check is issued. ( don't understand why, but they say it is the law they can not instantly cancel a money order). Fastest way to process a replacement check is 3 business days, which cost $45. Accepted the fee and have to wait what will happen.
Searched on the internet. If indeed the money order is cashed before the replacement is issued, you can still get a copy of cleared check and report the cashed person to police and recover the fund. But it would be much difficult.
==============
I bought a money order today but could not locate it after I got home trying to deposit it. I even could not find the receipt as it was with the money order.
I went back to walmart and luckily they were able to retrieve the receipt and a money order serial number. I'm not 100% sure the serial number on the receipt is the money order serial number as I need to remove a leading zero to fill the money order replacement request form at moneygram.com. When I check the status of that money order with that serial number, the response is "This item requires further research", but it let me fill the replace form request.
To retrieve the money I have to stop the payment before it is cashed. I don't think any check can be cashed today (Sunday.) Can anybody clear it Monday before the stop payment takes effect? I checked my mobile deposit history, seems it takes 1 business day to clear the money order e.g. if I deposited a check last Sunday, history of money order on moneygram.com will say it cleared Tuesday.
.

Limit $60,000 per month per GiftcardMall account.
FYI - That limit is a joke. It wasn't enforced at 30k and its not enforced at 60k.
(I have only had issues with un-tracked purchases. They wont investigate if you go over 60k, but eventually the points still post, just becasue GCM can be really slow, but they are reliable)

FWIW ó I think MG MOs are on a positive pay system. When MO is presented for payment by depository bank, MG system will validate serial, amount, etc and authorize payment if everything is kosher, otherwise it will not approve for payment. Hopefully they have their act together enough so that stop payment requests are processed real time.

Of course, if your luck is anything like mine, you will find the lost MO as soon as youíre finished with mg.

Yea I heard that too from a couple of people but I never wanted to risk it with that kind of volume. But GCM has definitely gotten fast in the approval of CB with these other portals. Yazing and TCB were deathly slow!

They said they can only stop the payment after the replacement is send, which takes 7 business days. Even the faster way need 3 days. seem no way to stop it instantly?

One of my WMs say they have to enter all MO over $500 in a log now, which is new. Is this a sign that they are being audited?

not necessarily. Some stores keep a log for various reasons. Stores Iíve gone to with a log have never been in response to an audit.

My 1st time experience...was a little different than in the Wiki.

Tried to swipe 4 times with one transaction. The cashier said the software will not allow a 4th swipe. Had to cancel and start all over.
Told cashier the amount of MO and wanted to pay with three (3) cards at $xxx each. She said go ahead with 1st swipe. Did not have the option to select "debit". Entered my PIN. The software asked if I wanted cash bacK? I selected "no". All three swipes went OK and I paid the $0.88 for the MO in cash.

Did the cashier screw something up when she advised me the software would not allow a 4th swipe?
