THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

I guess I didn't look closely. I thought they said 20-500. Yes, both stores had absolutely nothing on the rack for vgc, and all I found were at the aisles. I've never seen either store this empty. Plenty of everything else. My local store made up a new policy last gas promotion that I can only get gift cards "once every week or two", so I have to travel. It's not like I'm a super heavy hitter... I just go during gas promotions these days.

Giant mgmt limiting $500 Visa gift cards?

I also noticed on the very first day of the promotion, Friday morning, 3/16, that there were no 20 to 500 Visa gift cards in the main kiosks.

That was at two different Giants in the Reading, Pa area. Plenty of $50 and $100 fixed value Visa gift cards on the same kiosk though. An earlier visit to that Giant store a few days prior showed a lot of 20- 500 VGCs.

Then when I went to the customer service desk to fill out the log because I had found some in the checkout aisles to buy, I asked if they were busy that day with others buying gift cards because of the gas promo. " No, I was the first person that bought that day."

So that's telling me that perhaps the management had stripped off the 20 - 500 gift cards from the racks to limit the amount of people that could buy them and limit the gas points earned during the promotional period?

Anyone else have this idea?

My experience in No. Va. is the exact opposite: plenty of $20-500 cards, see my post above.
My suggestion: You should ask your local stores for the $20-500 cards. Could be a simple restocking or laziness issue. Does your main kiosk have a compartment behind the display for holding excess stock?

I went to a 3rd Giant today, and that one was flooded this time with them. I suspect it has little to do with the store, and more with the individual that is stocking them. All 3 of the stores I went to the person there was not new, and also was somewhat unfamiliar with how to fill out the log, which suggests to me that purchases are way down (2 remarked "it's been a while".

Anyone know if the MC fuel rewards deal will be extended? When was it extended last time?

My store had tons of VGCs and, for the first time, big signs attached to the rack advertising the deal.

Honestly, the only reason anyone would NOT do this deal is ignorance and, perhaps, lack of a Mastercard and the ability to prepay $500 of expenses. It's an extremely generous offer, that doesn't involve much hassle (mostly a few keystrokes).

Probably only way we’ll know is when it hits April 1st. But for now, rack up as much FR points as you can during March.

From FR MC T&C: "You can earn up to a maximum of $125/gal in savings for the Mastercard 15˘ Grocer Bonus." Is this a lifetime limit vs. rolling limit? Has anyone maxed out?

I believe it’s a max limit per ID.

The $125/gal limit is $83.3K MC purchase if my calculation is correct.

That is in the T&C for this specific promotion only, if I'm not mistaken. I don't see it in the main T&C. If the promotion ends and they bring it or something similar back later, I would imagine the limit would be reset.

Maxing it would be be 165 $500 gift cards when counting the fee, if you make no actual grocery purchases at participating locations. Or 1 almost every day since the promotion appeared in October. Easily over 900 gallons of gas. Don't think too many people would've maxed it, but you never know.

my understanding is you cannot accrue more than $125/gal discounts. Once you use some you can replenish up to the $125/gal max. I’m way over $125 for this promotion as I do $40k/month. I currently have $90 discounts.

That's good news! Could you post a copy of the text?

I think I'm signed up for their spam -- I get a few promotional emails from them each month -- and I don't seem to have this one.
