Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets gas rewards points on gift card purchases(2018-24)

THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

Same, however I do see a nice deal on Frozen pizza and the 15oz packages of the deli salads. In-Ad coupon, 100 points for each. I think it's a better deal than gas if you like these products. The pizza has me interested the most. up to 32.7oz! (the 3 pack four-cheese are 28.2oz and $10.99 regular price!). I get them all the time, my favorite frozen pizzas!

I agree, their pizzas are great! If you like, you *can* use multiple coupons to redeem for as many pizzas as you'd like, you just have to use each coupon as a separate transaction. Self-checkout makes this a little faster... I did this type of deal about a year ago when they had a coupon to get a case of Acadia water for 100 gas points. I got four cases vs. having some points expire.

I still argue that the wording of "free" is not appropriate, since you are redeeming essentially $2.50 in gas savings for the "free" product, but that's an argument for Giant for a different day.

I do not think all the "pizza" purchase has anything to do with the GC purchases this thread is for....

As I see it, this thread is about earning and spending gas points at Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets. Why wouldn't an alternate way to spend those points (besides cashing in for gasoline) be an acceptable discussion?

The title of this thread is clearly stated:

Stop & Shop and Giant supermarkets gas rewards points on gift card purchases(2018-19)

Someone can certainly create other threads discussing grocery purchases to earn points. Or change the title...

But they are the exact same thing! only question is where you use them

Yesterday there was a woman ahead of me that explained she wanted to use her 300 pts to get an item and did it matter if she 1st got gas, the csr asked how many pts she had in her acct and she replied < 400 , then the csr said you have to chose which you want the gas or the item, she thought she could get both

I didn't mean to hijack the thread. Visa 3x is starting this Friday 7/12. An alternate way for those that didn't know, is you can use gas points for certain grocery items and sometimes the cash value of those items is HIGHER than the cash value of gas, giving you an alternate way to spend gas points, especially because Visa/MC deals have been abundant and for most, it's going to be hard to use all those points for gas.

I won't post about the pizza or deli salads any more.

This forum is already 90 pages for 2018-2019, just about one year. Imagine what happens if we start discussing grocery items, from pizza, to frozen chicken, toilet paper etc. The value is just small and a lot of us are not here for those things.

I didn't know you can use points for other things than gas. I for one appreciate any new information shared. Better to use them any way you can than let them expire.

I agree that use of the points for non-gas spend is helpful I for one don't have a car so would love to know how to use those points elsewhere - does anyone have information on that?

I still think the underlying discussion should be about earning those points on gift card purchases though.

I also had no idea about this and found it quite interesting. Is this only for Giant though or for Stop & Shop also?

I just called a few Giant's in the Washington DC area and they all said FR points can only be used for gas at Shell. Maybe it's only a SS thing?

To me, I care more about the CC rewards than FR and grocery etc. I do not have long commute, so I always have some extra FRs to waste. I can get Weiss points to use at grocery store. But I do get several CCs with bonus on grocery shopping. Sometimes I buy some GCs outside the reward periods. I also try to save trips with the redemptions by giving up some rewards. Too much micro management.
