THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***

Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).

Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.

You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).

The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

- - - - - - - - - -

Additional Information

• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).

• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.

• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.

• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.

• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.

• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.

• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.

• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.

• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.

• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

Sometimes you need the card to scan vs phone. Not all stations participate. TIA to SpongyBard for confirming this.

EFC: apparently some/many/most/all stores are still open, but are only staffed by members of management, who are non-union. i won't make an OMNI/PR comment about how crossing a picket line in order to MS isn't the most noble thing one can do in life.
Caption on a news photo I saw: "Elizabeth Warren shakes hands and greets striking Stop & Shop workers while also bringing coffee and donuts in Somerville, Massachusetts." She's holding a box from Dunkin Donuts, which is controlled by private equity groups Bain and Carlyle.

FWIW, Stop & Shop and Giant Landover are both owned by Dutch company Royal Ahold Delhaize, which also owns Food Lion and Hannaford in the US and other grocery/retail chains in Europe.

For future reference. The problem was Giant and S&S having same email. You need different email addresses.

Other learnings - if you ever un-link your S&S/G on FR, the only way to re-link is to call S&S/G and ask them to delete your online a/c. You keep your a/c # so no risk to points. Then go through the process to create new online accounts. I wasted a lot of time on the phone before discovering this.

History so far
Had S&S linked to FR
Opened Giant a/c. Used same email as I used for S&S, but a different phone number
During Giant sign-up process, I linked to my FR. At first it worked and I could see both Giant and S&S in the FR app. However when I tried again later, no sign of Giant
Giant a/c gas page shows both Giant and FR symbols.....per Giant that means accounts are linked at their end. However this is not the case at FR
Called up both to resolve and Shell says talk to Giant and vice versa
Stopped by gas station this evening, and only seeing the S&S points when I use my FR card. Used Giant alt-id but did not recognize it. So is definitely not linked at shell's side
The S&S/G and FR linking has been erratic. I get a S&S that does not even show the FR info for a week. I still do not know when they will be linked. Sometimes the linking is broken and S&S or G knows about it.

At some point end of last year I unlinked my S&S from FR and didn't need to call in. After a few days the option to link it showed up on the S&S site again.

Re: S&S Strike -- Some folks won't cross any kind of picket line, other folks couldn't care less. Personally, I like to understand each side's position and make a decision on that basis.

Personally, I think the company -- "the last remaining large fully unionized retail grocery employer in New England" -- is making a fair offer. See https://stopandshop.com/labor/2019/#/labor/news for its side of the story.

Example: Current full- and part-time workers get time-and-a half for working on Sunday. Company wants to limit premium for newly hired part-time workers to $1-2 per hr; current workers would be grandfathered.

IMO that whole grandfathering thing is usually playing out badly for employees. Next thing you know, people who're grandfathered into better terms are pushed out, so that S&S can get more workers that get hired under the new terms. Given that S&S jobs generally aren't requiring unique skill sets all the grandfathered workers can be replaced pretty quickly.

Something potentially relevant w/r/t the strike: S&S gas stations are also on strike. I'm guessing the gas point office won't hesitate to extend expiration dates of any gas points expiring soon. I'll probably give it a shot later in the week if they're still on strike.

A heads up if you have "extra" gas points. At least at Giant PA, you can use 400 gas points for a Giant-brand honey ham this week for Easter Not sure about Giant MD and S&S. Obviously, a pretty good deal. Mine was almost 10 pounds.

Yes. My 5 points expired two days ago were extended to May. I think it may have something to do with the strike.
