THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***
Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).
Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.
You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).
The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

Additional Information
• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).
• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.
• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.
• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.
• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.
• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.
• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.
• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.
• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.
• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

I'm just curious that, if you buy fuel at a foreign area, why can't you just go to the foreign store and get the fuel points yourself? I can only think about situation where the foreign grocery store is not close to the foreign gas station I buy gas.
If I commute from S&S to Giant area. The Giant area fuel points may be of use to me. I guess this is the case?

has anyone noticed activity on their fuel rewards program that no one in your network made? I have had transactions in CA and in TX that were made on my account that no one in my network used. I have changed my password on my account and my phone number and my pin. My points have now been used 3 times without my permission. I have called Shell and they just say to change my pin and my password. They opened a case up on my account to try and get the points back. They then responded and said to contact Stop and Shop to get the points back since the points were earned there. Anyone else seeing activity on their account that they did not approve?

I do also have the transaction numbers from the fraudulent transactions so I will see if this continues to see if I want to pursue it more. I have changed my phone number, pin and password on my Shell account. And it did still continue even after all of those changes.

I really am thinking it is an inside job with Shell now. I did partner up but I don't think anyone can get my Shell info with my Giant info. I don't know those people but they have at least all have been very nice which does not mean you can trust them but I don't think it is them. I do share my points with close family members and no one has shared that info so I don't think it is them. It is very frustrating to do all this hard work just to have the points taken from me from strangers.

I ended up with 22 VGC at the end of this week's FR haul. So since SnS in NY area doesn't have WMT coverage. I'm little short of liquidating method. Can someone share their exp with DG and FD loading BB/Serve, anything I should watch out? Thx.

You bought 11K in vgc without a liquidation method?? It will take a while to unload that amount at FD/DG. I would do one card/one day at a time so as not to burn a location.

FWIW, for other slow children like me --
Despite some good efforts, I don't think the primary benefit of the buddy program (vs. the mechanics) have been described with complete clarity. So here's my attempt -- as a Giant-dwelling guy -- based upon recent, very positive experience with a S&S-dwelling sensei/buddy:
Instead of being limited to a $1.50 discount per fill-up, the limit becomes $3.00 per fill-up. This assumes that I have 1500 points in my FR account earned by me at Giant, and another 1500 points in my FR account that was generated by my S&S buddy's spending using my FR-linked S&S card. Ignores additional 5 cent discount available via FR Gold status.
Note: Need for gas in the "other" territory is NOT relevant to the above-described benefit.
Hat tip again to my buddy for his patience, look fwd to working with you again.

While we're on the subject, I would not describe this strategy as a "double dip," at least not on a strictly apples-to-apples basis. Although it's undeniably convenient to double the per fill-up discount limit, consider the following, from a Giant (Landover/NVa) guy POV --
Assumptions: (1) 3X point promotion; (2) gas price $3.00 per gallon; (3) ignore 1.9 cent minimum pump price; (4) calcs are before GC fees & liquidation costs, and CC CB or miles benefit.
Case #1 : Buy 2 $500 GCs at Giant, generate 3000 FR points. Purchase 40 gallons total, at 2 fill-ups (20 gal per FU). With $1.50 per FU limit for each FU, I get 40 gallons for $60, using 1500 points per FU, or 3000 points total.
Case #2 : Buy 2 $500 GCs at Giant, generating 1500 FR points for me and 1500 FR points for my S&S buddy, who reciprocates, i.e., I wind up with 3000 points in my FR acct (same as Case #1 ). I go to gas station, do a 20 gallon FU with $3.00 discount limit, get gas for free using 3000 points. To keep comparable to Case 1, I do a second FU, purchase 20 gallons at full price (I used all my points on first FU). Bottom line: I acquired 40 gallons of gas for $60, same as Case #1 .
