THIS IS A NEW THREAD FOR 2018. The previous thread is here.
***If you buy gift cards outside promotions, you will earn ZERO points.***
Accepted tender: Cash, credit, and debit. Also available are mobile/contactless payment (Apple Pay, etc.) and mobile loyalty (card barcode via app).
Summary
Stop & Shop (S&S), Giant Food Stores (Giant PA), and Giant Food (Giant MD) offer points for purchases which can be redeemed for a discount on the price paid per gallon on fuel sales at Shell and S&S/Giant fuel stations. $100* spend = 100 pts = 10c/gal discount. The particular rules vary between the three brands, and within Giant PA, the rules vary by location. Refer to the bottom of this wiki post for more information or links to official info from each brand.
You can earn gas points from both regular grocery shopping and gift card purchases (promotion only).
The grocery reward points (Go Rewards or Flexible Reward) can be transferred to either gas points (Fuel Rewards) or grocery points. The conversion rate is 100 points = $0.10/gallon or 100 points = $1 saving in grocery.

Additional Information
• A loyalty card is required to take advantage of gas rewards. They look like the above image and can be obtained either online (links at end of wiki) or in-person (at the customer service counter).
• The cards currently on promotion are listed in the current weekly circular and usually change every week. VISA and MC from Metabank or US Bank for $20-$500 (plus $5.95 fee) work. For GCs, if it meets the previous requirements, the packaging (blue, silver, birthday cake, etc.) doesn't matter! Check the issuing bank on the back.
• S&S and Giant (DC, DE, MD, and VA) allow you to redeem up to 1500 points ($1.50/gal) per fuel purchase, and points expire 30 days after the qualifying purchase. With Giant PA, there is no limit to the number of points redeemed at one time.
• Points earned in one program cannot be used in another program.
• Your ID may be required when buying gift cards. Your name and other info may also be recorded for purchases over a discretionary dollar value. Whether you're buying a $100 card or a $5k stack, your experience will vary.
• You can view your account online using the link at the bottom of the wiki.
• It's best to purchase gift cards at the customer service counter, but reports state that a single $500 gift card can be paid for at any register without an issue. Purchases over $1k will require manager authorisation with a physical key, which may slow down the queue. You can go to the Solution Center to save time and make things easier for everyone.
• Giant Eagle and Giant Food are different chains with different ownership, and this thread is not relevant to the former.
• If you have more points in your account than are redeemed for a fuel purchase, then the remaining points will stay in your account until their respective expiration date(s). For example, if you have 2500 points and debit the 1500 ($1.50/gal) maximum, you will have 1000 points left. Similar behavior if gas is ever below $1.50/gal before discount.
• If you don't receive eligible points with your purchase due to system or human error, you can have them retroactively added by customer service (in-store or by phone). Have your receipt and a copy of the advert. It can take up to 24 hours for keyed points to appear in your account.

For fuel stock-pilers -- Amz has STA-BIL 360 Marine Formula on sale for $8.00 for 32 oz, treats 320 gallons of fuel. It's a combined ethanol treatment and fuel stabilizer. Although "formulated" for marine use, it is reported to work fine in autos, trucks and small engines.
ETA: Price drops to $6.80 if purchased with Subscribe & Save.

Yes, except -- IMHO -- when you are using ethanol-blended fuel in small engines, like weedeaters and lawn mowers. The ethanol tends to cause small engines difficulty with moisture retention and other problems, so many experts recommend use of ethanol treatment (included in Sta-Bil 360) to neutralize this effect. That's also why you will see gas stations in certain parts of the country advertising "pure" gas, i.e., not blended w/ ethanol.

Question for those with gas cans. For practical reasons, it makes sense for my g/f to fill up her minivan and fill up a couple gas cans too. The gas station she needs to fill up at is often up to a 45 minute drive away (it's a place she is coming from anyway). She feels that the gas is often leaking a bit and making her feel very queasy. There is no trunk to put it in. I always find I can tighten them a tad tighter when she gets them home, but she has them on pretty well. Is this normal?

this isn’t good. benzene (found in fuel vapors) is proven to be one of the most carcinogenic substances. the vapor (not the liquid fuel, but just the vapor) can ignite at any time, even from something as seemingly benign as a spark from a poor speaker wire connection close to where the gas cans are.
placing the cans in a trunk vs the rear of a minivan has little safety difference. if anything, a trunk might be more dangerous in terms of fire because there is more exposed speaker wiring. make sure the cans are somewhat secured and aren’t rolling around at every corner.
here are 2 better options: (1) invest in a VP racing gas can. they’re not cheap, but worth every penny. plus, fueling your vehicles is a lot easier and quicker with these. the caps have gaskets and create a much better seal. (2) if you insist on using the cheap red/black conventional gas cans, something i’ve found to help create a better seal is to use a nitrile glove as a gasket of sorts. vinyl will tear, and latex doesn’t block fuel vapor. it has to be nitrile. put the glove over the opening of the can, and then screw on the cap. the seal should be significantly better.
she could always wear an organic vapor respirator while driving, but (a) i doubt she will, and (b) that doesn’t do anything about the ignition hazard.

A way to avoid the gas smell is to leave some room at the top of the gas can and as you're screwing on the top, push the side of the can against something ridged. What you're trying to do is squeeze the can. Keep it squeezed as you put the cap on. Now, when it goes in the car and warms and expands, there's less of a chance that it will overcome the vacuum inside the can, causing a positive pressure, which is why she's smelling gas. I always do this and it works great. So much so that I've sometimes gotten home and forgotten I've got a couple cans of gas in the back.

Compromise I made with my SO when using her SUV for a gas run --
I use external cargo carrier that fits into trailer hitch receiver. Put gas cans on carrier, secure with ratchet tie-down strap. Now they're all lined up to get stuffed full of sweet free fuel, bless their hearts.

If your goal is just to bypass the government's EPA "safety pour", you can buy this (one of many "replacement" pour spouts available.) The modern cans have coarse threads -- the pre-safety-spout cans came with narrow threads. The replacement kits come with screw-on spouts that will work with either type.
I have one replacement spout for my four gas cans -- I use the spouts they came with for storage and transport. I keep the replacement spout in a Ziploc bag when it's not in use.
