i would not recommend 2k. some of my stores take your name/cc/DL down at that level. They also get calls from corporate seeking your info. Not sure if this applies to regular GC related or V/MGC.
I'd keep them under $1k and visit different stores than the same store cuz managers will get "suspicious"

This go-to store is very close to my house and their self-check out is very friendly for gift card check out (no override needed for any amount).
At this point they probably flagged your credit card number and/or club card account. Whether or not they opt to stop doing business with you remains to be seen. At this point you're not under the radar anymore so you can proceed however you want to proceed. I see nothing wrong with telling them you are doing the purchases for credit card points. The people in the store and that loss prevention person who questioned you may not quite understand the whole thing, but once the report to headquarters is filed, the investigation unit will know exactly what you are doing...

That's changing this week (at least in my division). Gift card sales at self checkouts will prompt for an attendant approval.

It depends on the store. Several other stores require override in my area as well, only my regular store does not carry this requirement.

My stores locally have had attendant approval for gift cards at self checkout for a few years.

All my local Vons have no started selling V/MC gift cards that have stamps over the rear pull tab; not sure if this will deter fraud since it seems that most of the packages are cut open with razors and glued back together, but it’s nice to see them working on the issue.

also, I can’t remember the last time I bought a CVX gift card, but I didn’t earn fuel points this time. Oh well.

Has Safeway finally fixed their Apple Pay issue not accepting some card issuers? Only chase seems to work for me in Apple Pay

Attendant approval for gift cards has been in place at Safeway locations I know of for years now. The gift card comes up as a restricted item like alcohol or something. Even a $25 gift card is like that, which is odd. It would make more sense to flag larger transactions not $25 ones. Anyway, many locations in California have in the past had signs up that say no gift card purchases at self checkout. I think with the new self checkouts most of those signs went away. There were activation concerns with the older NCR self checkouts.

Some stores still have the older NCR self checkouts even post conversion The NCR registers would sometimes "forget" that there was a gift card in the transaction if the transaction is large, so cashiers were told to scan the gift card(s) as the very last item(s).

Check your J4U account for $10 instant discount if you purchase $100 (or more) in Visa Gift Cards. This promotion is different from the usual J4U deal......it apparently works on $500 variable cards. Limit one, offer ends 6/8/19.

Did you get fuel points? Which variable card did you buy? I bought the balloons and didn't get any points.
