$10 off $10 - 7 rewards
$7 off $7 - 5 rewards
$5 off $5 - 4 rewards
$4 off $4 - 3 rewards
$2 off $2 - 2 rewards
$1 off $1 - 1 rewards

The total comes out to $29, and you need 22 rewards to redeem them all.

The second part comes into play with the department specific offers:

$7 off a $7 in the meat department - 4 rewards
$3 off $3 in the produce department - 2 rewards

To add all these offers you needed a total of 28 rewards.

So what you do is go to the meat department, dig through the meat packages and find one that was as close to $7 as possible, but not below, then go to the produce department and try to get as close to $3 worth of produce, but not below. By doing this, you trigger the $7 off $7 meat offer, and the $3 off $3 produce offer for a total of $10 off. Because the items in the purchase were over $10, it also triggered all of the $X off $X offers, for a total of $29 off. The total value of the money back offers is $39.

The transaction would have $10 worth of items, but $39 worth of credits. So you could get a maximum refund of $29 if you bought exactly $7 of meat and exactly $3 of produce.
And if you have last month's rewards, both of them will come off as well, so you actually can get a maximum of $70 refund using 46 rewards total if you have both months of rewards loaded to your account and add the bakery $2 reward (and of course purchase $2 of bakery.) The cashier was shocked that I'm actually being paid that much to shop, initially very confused saying I owe the store the specified amount when the register reports a refund.

Wow I really wish I tried that, half as many transactions would have been nice.

Don't know, never tried it but probably should have.

What I started doing to avoid awkwardness is inserting my debit card in the pin pad during the transaction, then when they total it most would say your total due is whatever the amount of your credit is. The - sign is not very obvious. Then when they push whichever is the button that would charge your card if it was a normal transaction, the money would get refunded to my debit card and put right in the bank. This was not really necessary cause even one time when the cashier called a manager, he just said to refund the money cause that is what the register said to do and it would be out of balance if they didn't.

Anyone else have Safeway claw back rewards balance? I hit balloons/canoe fairly hard. Decided to confirm for myself if it was truly dead or not, and noticed I have a rewards balance of -27. Checked online at it says my rewards balance is 0, and 58 rewards are expiring this month.

Also yeah, balloons/canoe is dead. Variable MCGC didn't get me anything either.

Getting denied when trying to buy visa gc with cc

I have forever been buying the MBVGC at Safeway in the $500 denomination, usually two at a time and this morning tried two different Safeway’s and both managers on duty said something different. The first Safeway said I couldn’t purchase over $200 on credit, the other said it’s not allowed at all and has never been allowed even though I did this less than 2 weeks ago. Not only that, I tried yesterday and a different manager on duty was going to allow it but my card gave me a fraud alert and denied the purchase.

So what is it, is this a new policy or are they giving me false information?

They reserve the right to do whatever they want when it comes to gift cards (according to their policy). It isn't really in their policy at this time to cap transactions at $200, but I know of some locations or individual employees that do this in my area (NorCal) too. This $200 limit was, for a time, the corporate policy across all Safeway/Albertsons (although even then somewhat loosely enforced, but they did have signs from corporate up about it) is an old holdover from back when Safeway was not yet able to process Chip cards and was fully liable for fraud on all of the credit card transactions done via swipe. But once they got the Chip card processing to work, that "$200 limit" policy went away officially.

Yes, if they suspect fraud or money laundering, Managers can and will step in.

What is your Zip Code? Wouldn't mind creating a new account with same zip and trying to re-create.
