Not sure if this is good or bad news. A memo came down saying that the entire company is switching gift card vendors. They’re dropping Blackhawk Network and are switching to Incomm. The switchover process begins next Tuesday and will last through the end of September. Incomm will remove all Blackhawk Network gift cards and replace with their own.

Hi guys,
Did anyone from SoCal buy $500 gift card recently? I was screwed in 2016 by those tampered GC from US bank. I forget I bought those at ralphs or alberston or vons. But I am sure they were issued by US bank. I have never touched GC from grocery store in SoCal since then. I am trying to take advantage of Chase 5x in Q3. So I want to make sure issue has been solved? Thanks everyone.

Would you mind telling us what we should look for? I haven't dealt with one yet, thankfully, so I'm not sure what I should be on the lookout for. I'm curious actually how the scan works since they'd need the card with them right? Unless they copy the number and scratched off the PIN somehow.

I have good news and bad news regarding the Incomm switchover.
Good news - Incomm Vanilla Visa and Vanilla MC gift cards work just like the Blackhawk ones despite what it says on the back about needing to set a PIN, so BAU as far as liquidating the cards.
Bad News - Incomms fraud detection is more aggressive than Blackhawks. The store got two phone calls right after the purchase ($2k). So, cut back or else we will eventually be cut off.

The other downside seems to be an end to J4U promos. Haven't seen one in a while.

Blackhawk’s threshold for flagging gift card activation transactions is a hair over $2000, because I was doing $2k at a time without issue, but got flagged when I did $2300 ($2k+J4U deal on the low value cards). Incomm flagged my $2k transaction right off the bat.
So, if the store you’re going to has switched over to Incomm, don’t go all out and do $2k like I did.
