There IS a lot of fraud, and usually the stores where it occurred will bear the cost on its books. If the issue was a cloned card (see the Gift Card Fraud thread), then I'd assume that the bank issuer (MetaBank, Sunrise Bank, etc) would bear the liability. There was a plan a couple years ago to start issuing open loop gift cards with EMV, but it looks like that didn't come to fruition.

I don't believe so but perhaps we should start one for this year. I added the one from earlier this month to the wiki.

Still a noob on this forum and I might be late to the party, but I was just recommended to this thread as I inquired elsewhere regarding whether GC's earned fuel points at ACME, etc.

From what I read in the J4U T&C's, GC's aren't eligible for gas points points unlike at Giant, S&S, e.t.c. Would I be correct then to assume that the play here, besides the legit food coupons and occasional GC discounts (points-free), would be to MS on GC's and create spend on the front-end or am I missing something for the back-end?

Tks

Correct.

VERY Rarely will buying VGC from Safeway/Vons yield fuel points.
So you would be doing it almost exclusively for points earned from CC spend at the grocery, ideally using a CC that has a grocery bonus category.

I can remember 1 time in the last few years where Variable VGC "Balloons" packaging were somehow miscoded and awarded fuel points. I cleaned out every store in Northern CA and Sacramento and earned like 185 fuel rewards. Used some for fuel and some for actual grocery rewards. But, that was a pretty rare occurence.

And check this forum every now and then for occasional offers on fixed $ amount VGC that have a discount active. Members seem to post it pretty regularly.

Two J4U offers: save $15 off 2 x $100 MCs and save $10 off 2 x $50 MCs.

Add now as the offers often disappear before the 4/11 expiration date.

No, variables donít work on this offer.

Safeway pickup

Does anybody know if we can order pickup and have them include gift cards in the order? I wasn't able to find it. Just wondering if I missed something or if you can request it separately?

Doubt it but you can certainly try. They don't even allow you to use self-checkout to buy gift cards right? Even if they did the variable VGCs wouldn't be able to be processed unless you are there present.

Self-checkout for gift cards is not a problem. I have done it many times.

On variables, it asks for the amount.

An employee still needs to override the purchase. This is for variables and fixed GCs.

Didn't you just ignore to mention a key point which is that you still need an employee override verification in order to make the purchase? It is possible that they could stop you there if they wanted to.

He'll probably claim that it doesn't ask for override and it even offers him $10 off and gives him fuelpoints. For the rest of us, you're right.
