I don't think so. Safeway has the ability to report L3 data to card issuers, but doesn't. If you're paranoid, buy someone else in the same transaction so that it's not obviously $x05.95.

I recall one or two reports a while back, late 2017 to mid 2018. In those cases, it was done all at once and 100% MS.

Got $3000 worth on each card. Too bad it was so short lived. It died Wednesday 10/23. I was hoping for it to last until this month so I could rake it more cash back from the grocery reward..

That's not entirely correct. My local Safeway apparently reports L3 data to MC. I was messing around with a Barclays AA Biz card the other day and expanded an entry from Safeway. It was clearly L3 data as every single grocery item was listed with weight etc. details.

The same Safeway does not report to Visa or Amex though.

Interesting. I'll have to check my local stores to see if this is a company-wide thing. (I'm a field technician for Safeway)

Considering this is the best safeway deal of the year, and those who know how to use j4u rewards will know that each $500 amazon gc will earn them at minimum $36 cash in pocket, I appreciated their posts which added the necessary details which were originally missing and not easily looked up since this deal is targeted. If you don't understand the value added by their posts, move along.

They are asking for my id and credit card every time I buy a gift card. Is that something new or is it just adding around my area. Had it happen at 2 different locations when trying to buy those happy cards.

I started getting thorough ID checks at my two regular locations starting a couple weeks ago too. I guess some new training/regulations went out.
