Summary of Supported Payments by Card Brand
https://support.plastiq.com/s/article/supported-payments-by-card-brand

Official word from Plastiq regarding Visa Business cards that was asked which was previously thought it applied to only Visa Personal cards
Plastiq is unable to support mortgage payments on any Visa credit cards. This is an industry-wide mandate that affects all third-party bill payment services. Please note that mortgage payments are also unsupported for credit cards issued by U.S. Bank or Capital One and AMEX.

Plastiq Fees:
Standard Plastiq card payment processing fee is 2.9%. This puts most of the credit cards out of the reward range. Plastiq turns itself into a niche position to earn new card bonus or status threshold. Some CCs may still work.
It makes most of the reward programs not profitable. Use Plastiq to meet welcome bonus spending requirement or to meet certain spend requirements to reach elite status or for large spend bonus. Also take advantage of Plastiq referrals and promotions.

Delivery Fees (The Plastiq Ch. 11 restructure now added some delivery fees):
ACH/EFT/Electronic $0.99
Paper Check $1.49
Wire Transfer: Domestic/International $8.99/$39

This is the thread for 2018 and forward. The previous discussion can be found here.
Updated Nov-2018: A lot of the personal Visa CCs can't be used at Plastiq. Some will be treated as cash advance and won't receive any rewards. Only Capital One personal Visa CCs are not affected. Business Visa CCs are still good. The best CCs are Mastercard and Discover. AmEx CCs can still be used, but not on many of the payment types. Chase personal Visa cards are limited to the cash advance limit (typically 20% of CL). The details are listed as below:

Plastiq Referrals:
Standard Referral: When you refer your friend to Plastiq, after your friend charges $500 or more, your friend will get $500 ($0?) FFDs (fee free dollar) and you'll receive $1,000 ($100) FFDs to spend.

All personal prepaid Gift Cards (GCs) are disallowed. Not sure what "business" gift card can be used.

hey guys just discovered this thread well the old one. how do you guys know if your going to qualify for 3x points for rent or other bills. For example I pay 4k a month in rent and about 40 to 50k a month to a certain vendor of ours for products that we resell. These are practically the only 2 expenses i have that I havent figured out how to pay with credit cards and make it worth while.

I have the chase freedom unlimited and reserve card but still lose $125 with the 2.5% fee that plastiq charges so it doesnt seem worthwhile to pursue unless these expenses were somehow categorized as a bonus category in one of my credit cards. I also have chase ink preferred and plus and amex gold and blue for business plus and regular. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

If I'm not mistaken, the 3x is only Citi AT&T Access More cards (which I'm not sure if you can apply for these days outright), which gives 3x on many "online" purchases, and those are the only cards (and TYP the only point program) that I'm aware of that have a bonus on the "online" category.

In general, it depends on how the payment to a specific merchant codes using the card type (Visa/MC vs Amex) that you use. In some cases, only you can determine that with a test payment. If it codes as a category that's a bonus for one of your cards, then there's high likelihood it'll earn that category bonus. If it codes as a category which is not a bonus on any of your cards, then there's extremely little likelihood that it'll earn any category bonus.

The other way to make 2.5% pay off is to use a card which earns points that you value at much more than 1c per point. For example, if you value Amex Membership Rewards points at 1.5c per point because of how use them (transferring to an airline where you use them for high-value redemptions, for example), then using Blue for Business Plus (which earn 2x MR points would break even, beucase 2 x 1.5 = 3%. Similarly, if you value UR points at 2 cents per point or more, then the same thing applies for Chase Freedom Unlimited, since 1.5 x 2 = 3% also. But if you use Amex MR or Chase UR at a poorer value, then you can't break even with either of those cards.

Other than all that (if and when it still works), the main way to have 2.5% be worthwhile is if you are doing the payment to satisfy a credit card signup bonus which you would have trouble completing (in the time you need to complete it, or in a shorter time that you wish to complete it) without using Plastiq.

But that means it's more suitable for churning that normal MSing (with a card you have and keep), unless you're using a points program where you value the points at well over 1c per point.

See I am totally new to this awards game in terms of redemption been accumulating a lot of business points these past 2 years and finally have the opportunity to travel a bit for business and pleasure and I have been reading up on the forum and multiple blogs on how to maximize my point redemption and how to earn more. So I don't really have a valuation of my own yet. I used it for two things right now an ist to lax business rt for 115k and $46.43 in taxes. The turkish airline ticket is always priced at $2.8k which makes the redemption value .024 cents. Also have an jfk to can flight that looks like i can book on ANA for 95k with asiana airlines i believe it was and 300 in taxes and fees, where the cheapest business ticket is 3k which makes the redemption value .028 cents. So in this case I guess AMEX points are worth more than .02 cents right now but I already use up my 50k 2x offer on business plus without these expenses so its still not worth I guess.

However I just discovered something, visa has a website where you can look up what your merchant is classified as. https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator/search/index.jsp#

On there my vendor is classed as FURNISHINGS / APPLIANCES OFFICE & HOME and my chase ink plus gives 5x points up 50k for office supply stores. What are the chances that I can use the card for that and get the 5x points for which there is no way in hell I ever spend 50k in office supply stores?

Plastiq won't accept anything on my Amex as of today (Toyota, Subaru payments, student loan, and mortgage). All of my auto pays went through last month via Amex, even my mortgage payment. I don't see how Plastiq is going to make it. I can pay my insurance and most utilities through the bill pay website, so what is the point of paying the 2.5%? Really bummed I will have a harder time meeting Skymiles minimums, especially this early in the year.

Luckily my mortgage did go through as well as my son’s school apartment.

I agree that that this is getting to be a challenge to use.

I have my doubt that it would count (office supply stores are typically stores that sell paper, toner, ink, packing supplies, etc, etc), but I think the only real way to know is to do a test purchase and see whether it earns 5x or 1x.

Meanwhile, if you looked up that vendor there, doesn't that mean they accept credit cards directly? I don't see why in the world a vendor would be listed there if they didn't! So you may want to research further to see if there's any way to pay that vendor by credit card without using Plastiq (and thus without having to pay the 2.5% fee).

I'm having the same issue as well with AMEX declined as a form of payment for car, student loan, and mortgage. I guess I'm lucky the December payments went through without issue.

What I don't like is the lack of notification until trying to process the payment.

They do but they charge a %3 fee for credit cards. I am gonna do a test payment like you said and hope for the best.

I made my 3 scheduled mortgage payments in late 2017. I’ll let FT know when I receive my check for 1%.

Is anyone having issues with incorrectly being charged 2.5% on debit card transactions? I thought the fee was only 1% for debit cards.

Same here. Although I received two: the first one said "Your check in the amount of $[amount]" and then the second that showed the actual amount.

It's coding as utilities, so close to zero. No way to check beforehand.
