THIS IS A WIKI TO AN OLD THREAD THAT IS NO LONGER BEING MAINTAINED!

This is a new thread for 2017. The previous discussion can be found here.
The new thread for 2018 is here.

DETAILS:
Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register. BP must be done at Customer Service/Returns or at the Money Center in stores that have it.
WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.
ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction. ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.
CheckFreePay (800) 676-6148. - Look up payments using CC number and time of transaction

Standard BP- Once your CFP account is set up, you can add CC. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services. Make sure you get 2 receipts, one from WM and a small one from CFP showing the CC# and Biller name you paid.

WM App - The Money Services works in express lane for BP, but has issues making 2 or more payments in a row. Make one BP, then come back or do another trans, then another BP to avoid issues. Make sure you get a BP receipt in the app and it shows the BP info and the CC you paid before leaving the store.

Some tips: If you don't get a receipt and they have to print you one, make sure the CC you paid appears on the printed receipt. If not on receipt, call CFP with the manager to verify there is no payment processing. They can cancel any transactions and pay you in cash right away. If they cancel the transaction and their cash drawer opens, that means they should pay you in cash, if it doesn't open, the money will probably return to your cards. Not sure what happens on the same day? Watch their drawer when they cancel the transaction to see if it opens. If they say the money will return to your DC, make sure to write down the managers name in case it doesn't.

BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST (Holidays change post day)
Friday after 06:59PM EST, until Monday BEFORE 07:00PM EST arrives Tuesday
Tuesday BEFORE 7:00PM arrives Wednesday
Wednesday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Thursday
Thursday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Friday
Friday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Monday
But when a next-day payment will post and be visible depends upon the CC issuer.

--------------------------------------------------------------

:-:VISA and MC
If your particular card isn't on the list below, try "VISA" or "MASTERCARD."

"VISA" and "MASTERCARD" payee can no longer be found by search at some stores. If the employee can no longer find "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" by searching in CheckFreePAY, then you cannot pay either, end of story.

Back on the 19th I intended to do two express payments (this was before I noticed others reporting problems with this). The first one went through fine, the second one would not come up on the cashier's screen, so after a bit I just cancelled and we did it the old way.

After I got the APPROVED! message on my screen, the cashier's screen locked up. She went in the back, came back out, and then the screen came back up and the receipt printed. Also, a girl came from the back with two time-stamped printouts saying they both went through. When I got home I checked and the funds were off the card.

Only the first one has shown up on my Barclay account.

So I guess I have to contact CheckFreePAY. Anyone have the appropriate number ?

this has been mentioned in the wiki:
They can cancel any transactions and pay you in cash right away. If they cancel the transaction and their cash drawer opens, that means they should pay you in cash, if it doesn't open, the money will probably return to your cards.
While it is true that some stores will give the cash refunds back immediately, this does not happen all the time. take note of the bolded part because many have reported their ordeal when their funds didn't get returned to their GCs and they had to follow up with the store to help them trace where the funds are. It is challenging, not to mention a lot of time wasted, dealing with online sites that sell these GCs when the store tells customers to deal with the 'bank' to trace the funds that were supposedly returned to their 'debit cards'. as always, calculate the risks you're willing to take.

This is what happened to me and took 2 weeks to resolve. What you need from WMT is CFP receipt, not WMT receipt. If CFP receipt is not printed, your money stuck in WMT. You can easily verify by calling CFP and they will tell you after looking into account number you were paying that they don't have payment. What you need to go back to WMT, told them to call CFP to confirm it and they have to refund your payment in cash.

So, in the future - don't do "old way" payment. Just either let other customer go to cashier, or do something else than BP.

This is the third instance of this happening here. Read back a few pages and you'll see how to resolve it. In the meantime, no one should be doing back to back e-BP's until this quirk is fixed.

I dont think OP did b2b eBPs. The 2nd BP was old way.

Yes, I know. He tried to do a second electronic BP, but it froze, so he tried it the old way with his phone number. That's exactly what happened to me and to someone else here a few pages back. The second manual transaction (with phone number method) takes the money from your cards, but never generates a CFP receipt, so your bill doesn't get paid. Your only recourse is a cash refund.

The workaround for this is to pay a bill, then purchase a MO before doing the second BP. It could be exiting the transaction that allows that second BP to then go through, or it may simply be a timeout feature. Either way, don't do back to back BP's with the app until this is resolved.

Correct.

Yes.

What you need from WMT is CFP receipt, not WMT receipt.
The printouts the girl from the back brought out say "CPFS SALE" and show the amount and the last 4 digits of the 'debit' card. She said they both "went through".

You can easily verify by calling CFP and they will tell you after looking into account number you were paying that they don't have payment.
And the phone number for CFP ?

So, in the future - don't do "old way" payment. Just either let other customer go to cashier, or do something else than BP.
Everybody was in agreement about that. They said next time do one, go shopping or run another errand and come back and do the second one.

That's the WM receipt, not the CFP receipt. The CFP receipt has the last four digits of the cc you're paying. The receipt you have shows the last four digits of the debit card(s) you used to pay the bill.

For payments made in-person at a retail location, please contact CheckFreePay customer care at (800) 676-6148. Google search brought up the number.

Ah.

Yes, both the receipt that says WALMART at the top that printed out at the Money Center counter and the one the other girl brought from the back have the 4 digits from the debit card. Looks like Walmart has my funds. Still should check with CFP so I can say I did that.

Any particular number, anyone ?

Yes, thanks.

As I originally was asking if there was a better number. Sometimes they will say don't call the main number, use THIS number.

WM will call a different number, but they both work. I would call before you go to make sure and then the manager will call while you stand there to verify.
