This is the master thread for all VGC and MCGC sold at Staples.

The VGCs sold at Staples are issued by Metabank and serviced by Blackhawk Network.
The activation code for online purchase comes with the card. Cards purchased at store are activated at check-out.
To activate cards over the phone (without activation codes), call (877) 426-2551 to talk to a rep.
To activate cards over the web, www.giftcardkey.com.
The default PIN number is the last four digits of the card number but can be changed online.
As of 5/12/2014, all known portals are dead.
Earn 5x points with Chase Ink, or Simply Cash for 5% cash back
Buy Visa gift cards (Metabank) at Staples ($200 for $7.95) or the website ($300 for $8.95).
2k Limit per transaction / 10k per day for online. In-store is usually 2k but YMMV
Often times, there are promotions with no or reduced activation fees

During the last promos I was able to purchase $2000 per store with no problems. Last promo all stores I frequent had the sign of 1 per customer and enforced it.

Shipping to non 48 states
Does anyone live in Alaska/Hawaii know how to get the gift cards shipped? I used to order gift cards with free shipping to Hawaii with no problems but sometime this January it started to show an error message for shipping. Since then I can't order any gift cards.

If I get a visa/mc gift card and use it to purchase something at, say, target or costco, what happens if I need to return that item (esp if I no longer have that GC)?

My Staples used to have US Bank MCs with an initial PIN slip in the packing. Today I got MetaBank MCs and there’s no slip. The insert doesn’t say the initial PIN is the last 4 of the CC #.
Is is the initial PIN set by default or do I have to set each one manually online or by phone?

If you don't have the prepaid anymore and you can't put it to a different card, you can probably get a merchandise credit/gift card for that store.

I know the last 4 has always been the case with Meta VGCs, so now these new Meta MC's (without PIN card) also default to the last 4? I really don't want to assign a pin to all these cards, so the last 4 would be great if it works.
